My own mother doesn't even speak to me. She only speaks to Dad. She didn't turn up to my 10th birthday last Tuesday and I've never heard her soothing voice when I'd needed an 'I love you' or 'Well done'. I hate my mother.

My Dad is the best. We swim together, prank the Aquaora people every once and a while and train. Train. Train. Train. My Dad wants me to be the strongest and smartest in my class. I am. I have to be if I'm going to take his place as king someday. I have long black hair that I keep in a messy bun, sharp narrow blue eyes and teal skin which was stated as a 'once in a lifetime mutation' by the doctors at the hospital.

Mum was crying again.
"Mum why don't you tell me why you're upset?!" I insisted as I stood outside her room. She has these episodes where she stays in her room for days and screams when Dad tries to come in. They coincidentally occur around my birthday. She slid a piece of paper under the door.

I am not free in my own kingdom

I had no idea what she meant at the time so I scrunched up the piece of paper and put it in my pocket.
"Why can't you be a good Mum? Do you even care about me?! You never appreciate what Dad does for us and I hate you so much!" I shouted and stormed off to my room.

The Oceangroovers single blasted from my speakers as I sung along to their hit song 'Shell Girl' while I laying on my bed. I swear Mum needs to go to a mental hospital or something because she's lost the plot. A familiar knock on the door. Dad. I turned off the speaker.
"Don't EVER shout at your mother like that again Poseidon" he commanded.
"She doesn't even speak to me though" I murmured.
"You wouldn't understand the situation son. You never will" he snapped at me. I must've done something wrong if Dad's shouting at me.
"Have you done your homework?" he asked.
"Yes" I sighed.
"Good boy".
