Chapter 20: The Truth

Bea walked inside the warehouse, turning on the lights as she made her way toward the desk.

She picked up the chair that lay on the grown, as she sat down.

Bea pulled out her phone, and grabbed a charger that was on her desk, connecting both of them to the computer as she opened it.

Bea began typing, looking through her call log as she was trying to trace the unknown number that called her yesterday.

Believing it was her mother that called her, she felt more determined to find her mother.

A knock on the door of the warehouse, made Bea go on alert, and she immediately stood from her seat, looking around as if she didn't have a weapon to defend herself.

Feeling stupid as that was the most important thing she should have included when she built her hideout.

The knock on the door seemed soft, Bea's brows furrowed as she walked to the door, hand hesitantly on the handle of the door.

"Bea, I know you're in there," Amaya said from outside. "Let me in, it's getting cold out here."

Bea opened the door as she saw Bea and Miles standing outside, her eyes widened confused, and she moved to the side.

"What are you doing here?" Bea asked.

"I'm waiting for you to let me in," Amaya said. She gestures inside the warehouse. "Unless you want us to be seen by whomever you're running from."

Bea sighed in annoyance as she moved to the side, letting Amaya and Miles enter the warehouse, closing the door as she turned to face them.

"How'd you find me?" Bea asked.

Amaya and Miles's exchange looks as Amaya looks down at her feet.

Miles spoke up. "Miss Amaya was concerned about you, she wanted to make sure you were okay, especially after what happened at the beach and at your home."

Bea looked at them skeptically. "You're lying." Neither Amaya nor Miles said anything as Bea let out a sigh. "Well, you're here now, so what do you want?"

"I want to know what you're doing in a filthy place like this," Amaya said. She looked around, she was right the place did look terrible though Bea did fix it up a bit. "But I guess you did some good work here."

Bea rolled her eyes. "What I do here is my business." She walked past Amaya and Miles and goes to her desk, taking a seat. "So how long have you been following me?"

Amaya shifted under Bea's intense gaze, Miles noticed her discomfort, and clearing his throat, he spoke. "For a while now."

Bea glances at Miles, before returning her gaze to Amaya. "You had your driver follow me around?"

"To see if you're okay," Amaya told her. Bea wasn't convinced, and Amaya knew that. "And because I was curious where you always disappear to."

Bea's brow raised. "So you were stalking me?" Amaya didn't say a thing. "And you wonder why you have no friends." Amaya opened her mouth to speak, but she couldn't find the right words. "At least try to defend yourself against my rude comments."

Miles stepped forward. "In her defense sh-"

Amaya's voice raises. "You're right I'm a stalker, I'm a girly rich girl with no life, but not everyone is perfect, okay?" She met Bea's eyes, staring at her as she held back her tears. "You have an uncle who cares so much about you while mine is a-a." She stutters as she tries to find the right words. "An ass!" Bea's eyes widened along with Miles's. "He's an asshole who doesn't care and the only reason he came by yesterday was to make sure I didn't do anything stupid."

"Stupid?" Bea asked. "What would you do?"

Amaya looked at Miles for help, as she was too ashamed to tell Bea.

Miles cleared his throat. "Miss Verone had a tendency to run away sometimes, escaping her living quarters, and sometimes we almost never find her."

Bea stared at Amaya. "I guess I'm not the only one with family issues."

Amaya's eyes glossed over. "He doesn't care about me. For appearances, he pretends to care, but behind doors, he treats me terribly, along with his girlfriend Monica." Amaya shifted uncomfortably. "I've always known he never cared for me, ever since my mom and dad died, and I was placed in his care, he started to show his dislike towards me." Bea frowned. "Calling me weak and pathetic, saying I'm a disgrace to the family, you don't know how hard it is, to put on a fake smile and act like everything is fine when it's not and never will be."

Bea looked away. "I do know how hard it is, I may not be in the same situation as you, but I know what it's like, faking a smile for everyone else's sake." Amaya only looked at her confused. "Like no one in the whole world understands you, and you're just alone to suffer in silence." Bea walked towards her board, looking at the pictures of her mother. "Wanting to get out of the dark and be in the light, I've yearned for so much from inside that dark room." Bea's mind flashes back to her darkest moment. "To be free from all dangers that come after my mom and I." She turned around to face Amaya. "You wanted to know more about me, and understand why I'm closed off to society and making friends." She gestures to the board behind her. "Here's your chance."

Amaya looked at her in confusion, walking forward, she looked at the board. "What is all this?" She saw the pictures of Bea's mom. "Is that your mom?"

Bea stood beside her. "Yes, and from what I could remember, I haven't seen her in two years." Amaya looked at her. "And that's because we both have been on the run, hiding from the dangers that follow us." Bea looked at Amaya. "You asked me if I was in any trouble, to answer your question, yes I am in trouble, but so is my mom."

"What happened?" Amaya asked. Bea looked at her, debating whether she should tell Amaya the truth about her. "You can trust me, I won't say anything to anyone." Bea glanced at Miles who watched the two silently, Amaya followed her gaze. "Miles won't say anything, he can be trusted."

"Fine, but, what I'm about to tell you can't be told to anyone outside this room," Bea told her. "And it may freak you out, but trust me when what I tell you is actually the truth and not a lie."

Amaya nods her head.
