Chapter 11: Starting Over

4 Months

It had been exactly 4 months since the L.A. incident, and Bea was having a crisis as she and Brian were staying at a new place.

It was a small house with two rooms and a bathroom, thanks to Bea's credit card from her mother, they still had a lot of money left on the card.

Bea stood in the living room as she gave Brian an angry look.

"You are being unfair," Bea told him. "No, eight year old needs to go to school."

"We are not arguing about this, Bea," Brian told her. "My decision is final, you're going to get your education, make some friends your age, join clubs, and do all the fun stuff."

"That stuff is for normal kids," Bea told him. "And last time I check, I'm far from normal."

"Well, start acting like you're normal," Brian told her. "We got your uniform and everything, you just need to fix that attitude of yours, and you'll be fine."

"I'll fix mine when you fix yours," Bea retorts. "You're not my mom, you're my uncle, you're supposed to be fun. Not demanding and strict." Bea pouted. "Mom would have never treated me this way."

"Your mom was a pushover," Brian told her. "She would let you do whatever you want."

"Last time I check, you don't know my mom very well," Bea told him.

"You're right," Brian said. "I don't know her as well as I thought I did." Bea nods her head in agreement. "But I do know you, Bea, and at some point you're gonna have to socialize and hangout with kids your age."

"For the last time uncle Brian, I don't need friends," Bea told him. "They will only make my life miserable, and I don't want to be miserable. Do you want me to be miserable?"

"I want you to be happy," Brian told her. "I want you to go out more and have fun."

"You know what's fun?" Bea asked. "Being on the run from the police." Bea tilts her head. "How's that going for you by the way?"

Brian sighed. "Don't change the subject. You're going and that's final." Bea opened her mouth to speak. "Don't talk back to me. If you say one word, I won't be getting you your favorite ice cream to eat later." Bea closed her mouth, pouting. "Thank you." Bea rolled her eyes looking away. "You start school tomorrow."

Bea looked back at her uncle, glaring as she stomped away.

Brian sighed as he sat on the couch.

------

Bea sighed as she stood in front of her mirror as she was fixing up her uniform as she tried to put on the bow tie that was given to her.

Brian who stood by the doorway, laughed.

Bea glared at him through her mirror. "This is not funny! This is torture and you know it."

"That I do," Brian said as he looked down at his watch. "Look, I have somewhere else to be, so hurry up with whatever you're doing."

Bea rolled her eyes as she finished fixing her bow tie.

----

If there was one thing Bea O'Conner hated the most, it would have to be school.

Especially being the new kid, it sucks.

Having no friends, all alone on your first day.

It was like being an outsider, with no one to help you get through your first day.

Bea sighed as she looked at the building in front of her, reading the sign. 'Woodland Hall Preparatory School' Bea then looks to her uncle. "Please don't make me go in there."

"No can do Bea," Brian said. "You gotta get in there at some point."

Bea pouts, looking away. "Why can't I be homeschooled like other kids?"

"Because those kids have no life, and don't want a proper education," Brian told her.

"Well I guess I had no life back when I was homeschooled with mom," Bea told him. "Thanks for nothing."

Brian sighed. "Look, I got you something for your first day."

Bea raised her eyebrows, curious. "What do you get me?"

Brian reached over to the back, picking up a gift bag, handing it to Bea. "Open it."

Bea eagerly opened the bag, taking out a pair of roller derby skates. She looked up at Brian questionly. "You got me skates?"

"Yeah, thought if you need to get around, it can be easy with these," Brian told her.

"I don't think they allow these in school, Uncle Brian," Bea told him.

"I know," Brian said. "You can't ride them in school, of course, but you can after school ends."

Bea nods. "Thanks I guess." She opens the door, getting out of the car. "I'll see you later."

Bea walked towards the steps of the school, looking up at the big building, sighing as she shook her head as she headed up the steps.

-----

It had been a few weeks since Bea started school, and she hated it with a burning passion.

Bea sat outside in the courtyard, arms crossed as she glared at the ground.

There was a commotion across the courtyard, Bea looked up to see a girl being slammed into the wall.

Bea stood from the bench, walking closer as a crowd started to form.

The girl who had the other girl pinned spoke. "All I'm asking is for a little cash, you can do that for me, right Amaya?"

Amaya Verone for short glared at the older girl in front, as she struggled against the grip the girl had on her.

"Let her go, Courtney," Another girl said, she was shorter than both girls as she had glasses on.

"Mind your own business, Emily," Courtney told her.

Emily looked at her friend, scared for what was going to happen to her.

"Just let me go, please," Amaya said. "Please, Courtney."

"Not until you give me what I want," Courtney said as she raised her fist. "If not, I'll give you a black eye to match your shoes."

Amaya whimpered. "I gave you money a few days ago."

Courtney shrugged her shoulders, smirking. "A girl has needs, now hand over the cash."

"No," Amaya told her. "Please, just let me go, I'm sure we can talk something out."

Emily put her hands on Courtney, trying to push her off her friend, but no use as Courtney just pushed her down.

"Nah," Courtney said. "I don't think so." Courtney was about to punch Amaya, but a hand was put over her fist. Bea stood in her way. "Who the hell are you?"

"I'm your new best friend," Bea told her sarcastically before glaring at the older girl. "I suggest you let the girl go or else we're gonna have some problems."

Courtney glared as she let go of Amaya, who ran to Emily's side, as they held onto each other.

Courtney turned towards Bea, pushing her to the wall.

Bea grunted as she felt pain from the impact.

Both Emily and Amaya moved out of the way as Courtney walked closer to Bea, standing face to face with the younger girl.

"Looks like we got ourselves a hero," Courtney said to the crowd as they watched her next move. "I don't care who you are, just know that you're messing with the wrong person."

"Really?" Bea asked. "Because I think I'm just messing with a bully who needs to have some class."

"You know stupidity isn't a crime, so you're free to go," Courtney said.

"Nope, I think I'll stay," Bea told her. "Do your parents even realize they're living proof that two wrongs don't make a right?"

The crowd around them, went wild at Bea's comment.

Courtney glared. "You know, you're like a cloud." Bea looked at her confused as Courtney smirked. "I think when you disappear it will be beautiful today.

Bea rolled her eyes. "People like you are the reason I'm on medication."

Bea pushed herself off the wall, as she and Courtney were staring down at each other, neither willing to back down.

"What is all the commotion?" A teacher asked as she walked over the crowd. Bea backed away from Courtney. "What do you two think you're doing?"

The crowd dispersed as Amaya and Emily stayed behind to watch.

Bea smirked, having an idea, she held her arm, pretending to be in pain. "Ow, ow, my arm." The teacher looked at Bea concerned while Courtney glared at the younger girl. "I think that girl broke my arm, it hurt so bad."

The teacher turned to Courtney. "Miss Prescott, what do you have to say for yourself?"

Courtney stared at her in disbelief. "You're not seriously buying this crap? She's lying."

Bea, who was still pretending, frowned. "I'm not lying, you twisted my arm until I heard a pop." Bea looked at the teacher. "I think I need to go see a nurse."

"Okay, um, Amaya, Emily," the teacher called out to the two girls who stood silently watching everything. "Take a miss, um..."

"O'Conner," Bea answered.

"Miss O'Conner to the nurse," the teacher said as she turned to Courtney. "And you and I will go and call your parents again. Just when I thought this year would be different with you Courtney, you prove me wrong."

Bea, Emily, and Maya walked in the opposite direction of Courtney and the teacher, Bea smirking proudly as both Emily and Maya looked at her curiously.

They walk inside the hallway of the school, silently as Bea relaxes her arm, stretching.

"Well, that went well," Bea said as she looked at Amaya and Emily. "You don't have to walk me to the nurse's office, I'll just go to class." Bea walked ahead of both girls. "I'll see you guys around."

Amaya nods her head, watching Bea go. "It's Amaya." Bea stopped walking as she turned to face Amaya. "I mean my name is Amaya."

Emily pushes her glasses up. "And I'm Emily." Bea nods her head slowly. "Your Beatrice right? The new kid?"

"Bea," Bea answered. "Not Beatrice, or new kid, it's just Bea."

Amaya nodded her head slowly. "Right, Bea, got it."

Emily smiled shyly. "Thanks for saving Maya."

Bea smiled as she turned around, walking away.
