Chapter 2: Sandwich Crazy
It had been a few months, as Bea and Brian got well acquainted with each other.
Brian was on the phone talking as Bea was on the couch watching tv.
Brian had gotten a small apartment for himself and Bea as they would live there for a while, though he had no plans sending to Bea to school yet since the said girl had no plans to attend school and would rather be homeschooled.
Brian then hangs up the phone with a sigh before turning to his niece.
"Bea you can't watch TV all day," Brian told her. Bea turned to look at him. "How about you go and get dressed, and I can take you out for lunch?"
Bea smiled as she stood from the couch. "Lunch sounds good, I'll go change."
-----
In a cafe, Mia was studying behind the counter as her brother was in the back doing whatever.
A red truck pulled up in the parking lot of the Toretto's Cafe and Market, Mia looked up, smiling but that smile soon faded as she saw a little girl getting out of the truck.
Bea frowned as she looked at the run-down cafe, she looked at Brian with a questionable look.
Brian looked down at Bea. "What's with that look?"
Bea narrowed her eyes at her uncle. "This is the place you had in mind for lunch?" Brian nods his head. "This place looks like a run-down diner. Can't we eat somewhere else?"
"Nope," Brian told her. "I promise the food isn't bad."
Bea looked at him unconvinced. "Uh-huh, whatever you say, uncle Brian."
The two walks towards the cafe and Bea's face scrunches up in disgust at the place, while Brian gives her a look.
Brian and Bea enter the cafe, each taking a seat at the counter.
Mia looked at Brian, smirking. "Tuna on white, no crust, right?"
"I don't know," Brian told her. "How is it?
Bea looked down at the counter, seeing a car magazine, she takes it, opening it to read.
Mia shook her head. "Every day, for the last three weeks, you've come here, asking how the tuna is Now, it was crappy yesterday. It was crappy the day before. And guess what? It hasn't changed.
"I'll have the tuna," Brian told her.
"No crust?" Mia asked.
"No crust," Brian repeated.
Mia looked at Bea, who was still looking through the magazine. "And what are you having little one?"
Bea looked up. "First don't call me little one, it's Bea." Brian gave Bea a look that she ignored. "And I'll have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and please cut the crust."
Mia smiled as she nods, turning away to make their food.
Bea from the corner of her eye could see how tense her uncle was, she looked up to see what he was looking at, seeing a bald-headed man, seeing as they had a stare-off. The man breaks eye contact before looking at Bea, who looked at him with a questionable look.
The sends her a soft smile, Bea tilts her head, looking away as she resumes reading her magazine.
Brian looked down at Bea, knowing that he should not involve her in his job, but feeling bad if he left the girl home alone by herself, though Bea had stated that she was okay staying by herself considering she had to on multiple occasions, due to her mother always being out.
All Brian knew was that he did not want to bring Bea into any kind of danger, but if only knew how she was already involved she was in.
Brian looked back at the bald-headed man, Dominic Toretto, his main target.
Bea knew all about Brian's job and what he did for a living, seeing as she made it her mission to know what her uncle was involved in.
Brian could not have kept it a secret from Bea as she was nagging him to tell her what he did for a living, though Bea did not like his line of work, considering her mother had told her that cops were bad and that she should never get involved with them.
But Bea had trusted her uncle since her mother had entrusted him to watch over her, so Bea tried her hardest not to judge or criticized him.
But Bea knew the real reason why they were their, and if was for Brian's job as an undercover cop, as he was going to take down Toretto and his crew for the crimes they commited
Mia comes back with two plates, setting them down in front of Brian and Bea. "Here you go."
"Thank you," Brian said.
"Thank," Bea said, picking up her sandwich and taking a bit.
Brian looked at her. "You like?"
Bea smiled. "Me love."
Mia chuckles. "You have a pretty smile, you know that?"
"And you have nice eyes," Bea told her. "Wanna trade?"
"No thank you," Mia told her. "I'd like to keep my eyes."
Bea shrugged. "Suit yourself."
Bea happily ate her sandwich, as it was nice and quiet, though that did not last for long. Bea turned around as she heard cars pulling, along with loud voices.
Bea sighed irritably, as she watch the people get out of there, while still eating her food.
Outside
Bea watches as she saw four people coming out of their cars, making their way to the cafe.
Letty, Jesse, Leon, and Vince had walked over to Vince's car.
"Talk to me, Jesse," Vince said "This ain't working, brother."
The crew had joined around Vince's hood.
"It's your fuel map," Jesse told him. "It's got a nasty hole. That's why you're unloading in third."
Jesse looks under the hood.
"I told you," Leon said which earns him the finger from Vince.
"I'll lengthen the injector pulse a millisecond," Jesse told him. "Just tune the NOS timer, you'll run nines."
Vince was not paying attention as he looked at Brian's truck. "What's up with this fool?" Vince says as he turns Jesse's head as they looked into the cafe. "Is he sandwich-crazy?"
Bea caught their gazes as she immediately turns around in her seat looking down at the counter.
"No, he ain't here for the food, dog," Leon said.
The four began walking in.
"Chill out," Letty said. "He's slinging parts for Harry."
"I know what he's slinging," Leon said. "He's trying to get in Mia's pants, dog."
Mia smiled when she saw them. "What's up, guys?"
Vince sits beside Brian with the others walking further into the shop.
Bea briefly looks up and sees the gang before looking back down at the magazine.
"How you doing, Mia?" Leon asked
Both he and Jesse walk over to the sunglasses rack.
"How you living, girl?" Letty asked.
"Ah, he's beautiful," Jesse said as he holds a pair of sunglasses in front of the pair he is already wearing.
"I like his haircut," Leon said.
Bea could feel the tension in the air as she saw her uncle and Vince stare off.
"Vince," Mia said but didn't have his attention."Vince!"
"What?" Vince asked as he look away from Brian to Mia.
"Can I get you anything?" Mia asked.
Vince looked her up and down. "You look good."
Bea had finished her sandwich, closing the magazine.
Both she and Brian stood up, Brian reached into his pocket. "Thanks a lot, Mia. See you tomorrow." He sets down the money.
Bea smiled at Mia. "Bye, nice lady."
Mia smiled as she waved at Bea.
"Tomorrow?" Vince repeated.
"I love this part," Leon said as Jesse nods her head.
Vince got up and followed Brian. "Try Fatburger from now on. Get yourself a Double Cheese with fries for $2.95, faggot."
"He likes the tuna here," Bea responded glaring at Vince. 'And you have a foul mouth, mister."
"Bullshit," Vince said. "No one likes the tuna here."
"Yeah, well, I do," Brian said.
Vince slams him into his truck.
Brian quickly turns around and punches Vince, which sends him to the ground. Bea stood a few feet away from the two, watching the scene before looking annoyed at Vince for picking a fight with her uncle.
Bea felt useless as she wished she could help her uncle.
Bea sighed as she walked towards the two, as she gets in between her uncle and Vince, glaring at Vince. "Back away from my uncle, you asshole."
Both Brian and Vince looked at her surprised.
Brian stood as he moves Bea behind him. "Stand back Bea."
Bea looked at her uncle, raising her eyebrows at him as Vince goes to punch him, Bea being quick on her feet goes around Brian and kicked Vince in his crotch,
Vince groans as he bends over. "You little brat."
"I'm sorry what did you say?" Bea said. Since Vince was down on his knees, Bea had decided to repeat what she did moments ago, though instead, she kicked him in his face. "Don't call me a brat, ever again."
Brian lifts Bea up as she glares down at Vince.
Mia and Letty were impressed while Leon and Jesse were shocked.
Vince then gets up and advances toward the two, Brian puts Bea down as he pushes her behind him and takes the punches he receives.
"Jesus Christ, Dom! Would you get out there?" Mia yelled as she rushes to the back where Dom is. "I'm sick of this shit. I'm not kidding, Dom. Get out there
!" Dom slowly stands and they look to see the Brian repeatedly punching Vince.
"What did you put in that sandwich?" Dom asked.
"That's really funny," Mia said sarcastically.
"Dom!" Letty said as they see Brian take Vince to the ground.
"All right," Dom said.
He heads outside with everyone following him besides Mia.
Dom pulls Brian off of Vince.
"Hey, man," Brian said. "He was in my face."
"I'm in your face," Dom told him as Vince stands up and tries to go after Brian again. Dom quickly shoves him back. "Relax! Don't push it! You embarrass me!"
Bea glared at Dom for the way he spoke to her uncle.
"Get over there!" Letty yelled at Vince as she and Leon shove him away from Dom and Brian.
Jesse picks up a wallet.
"Jesse, give me the wallet," Dom said. "'Brian Earl Spilner.' Sounds like a serial killer's name. Is that what you are?"
Bea snorts as Dom looked at her, amused.
"No, man," Brian answered.
"Don't come around here again," Dom told him.
Dom turned to walk back to the others.
"What a bully," Bea said.
"Hey, man, this is bullshit," Brian yelled out.
"Language," Bea whispers.
Dom turned around. "You work for Harry, right?"
"Yeah. I just started," Brian answered.
"You were just fired," Dom said as he and everyone headed back inside.
"Well, this sucks," Bea said as Brian nods in agreement. "You should go talk to your boss and talk him into not firing you."
Bea got inside the truck.
