"Can you believe EJ deleted my voicemail to Nini?" I complained to Big Red. We were situated in the corner of a classroom we normally all meet up in when we weren't in the auditorium.

"She definitely didn't hear it?"

"I'm sure of it. You should have seen the look on her face when I asked why she told EJ." I glanced over at Nini, who was listening to what Kourtney had to say.

"Alright everyone, we'll be learning some new choreography today..."

Miss Jenn was cut off when the door opened and the most beautiful girl I'd ever seen entered the room. She flickered her eyes down to the floor every so often out of nerves. Which I thought was cute.

"Hi." Miss Jenn greeted her before turning back to us.
"This is my niece, who will be helping out with the show."

I couldn't help but stare at her beauty, my heart was palpitating and my lungs burned as I struggled to catch my breath! Her eyes wandered in my direction, scanning me up and down before averting her gaze and smiling.

I think my heart stopped...

She made her way over to Miss Jenn and Carlos. Some theatre kids gathered round to greet her, whilst Big Red and I stayed in our spot.

"Who is that girl? I've never seen her before." Big Red gawked at her, unable to keep his jaw from crashing to the floor.

"I don't know who she is but one look and my chest tightened. It was like I had forgotten how to breathe." I placed my palm over my chest, feeling the quickened pace of heartbeat.
"I mean, did you see the way she looked at me?"

Big Red ripped his eyes away for a second, processing the words spewing out of my mouth.

"This is a sign."

"A what?"

"A sign. It's clearly the universe telling me to
move on from Nini. She moved on."

"Her and EJ are on the brink of breaking up. This is your shot man."

Was Big Red really trying to make me shoot my shot with Nini again?

It didn't go well the last few times I tried. I was on the verge of giving up. This girl strolling in might be the fresh start I need. The start of something new.

"This is a clear sign Big Red."

"So, are you just going to forget about everything you had with Nini? Over some girl who came here out of the blue?"

"Yes, that's exactly what I'm going to do. Whatever me and Nini had, it's gone. It's in the past now." I meant every word I said. Nini never made me feel like this, not once. Even when she told me she loved me, I couldn't say it back.

I didn't love her...

I always felt like there was something missing. This feeling... This almost suffocating, yet warming feeling flowing through my body is what was missing. Whoever this girl was, she was the one that caused it.

"Okay people..." I snapped out of it from the sound of Miss Jenn's voice.

I swiftly ran down the stairs to get to the skate park, board under my arm. I nearly tripped on something placed on the steps...

"Oh my god, I'm so sorry." I heard an angelic voice.

"It's okay..." I turned my head in the direction of the voice and saw Miss Jenn's niece. My heart skipped a beat and I just smiled.

"You're one of the theatre kids right?"

"Excuse me?" I asked dumbly. Forgetting that I was just in rehearsal.

"You're in the school play? Playing Troy." She awkwardly looked around before fixating her eyes on mine.

"What?" I don't know what this girl was doing to me but, I couldn't concentrate.
"Oh yeah, yeah. Troy, right."

"Are you okay?"

"Yeah, yeah. I'm fine."

"You seem a little out of it." A confused expression possessed her face. My heart was palpitating again and my chest was tightening, crushing my lungs so I couldn't breathe again.

"I'm good."

"You're Ricky? I'm new." What?
"I mean, I'm Ricky. You're new, right?"

How did I manage to jumble my words up? What is happening?

A small chuckle escaped her lips, she moved her head down and back up again.

"I'm Gabby." An angelic name for such an angelic human being.

"What are you doing here?" Did a normal sentence just come out of my mouth?

"Waiting for someone. I was suppose to meet them here..." Before she could finish, her phone buzzed and she read it, a piece of her hair dangling across her face as she did.
"But, it looks like they went home so guess that's my queue."

Gabby picked up the skateboard next to her. The one I nearly tripped over.

"Do you want me to take you home?"

"I think I'm okay." She smiled, turning around.
"Enjoy your skate." She waved to me, jogging up the steps. I watched her leave, until she was just out of sight; before letting out a huge sigh I must have been holding in.
