So we have reached the last chapter
I'm gonna be sad to end this, but I'm also excited
I hope you guys enjoy
Anakin felt it the moment it happened. He felt his bond with Obi-Wan shatter and dissolve. It wasn't sudden, like it was with Ahsoka after the cliff. It took a little longer.
He sucked in a breath.
"Sir, are you okay?" Rex asked.
Anakin narrowed his eyes. "Obi-Wan's dead." He must've sounded too aggressive or something because Rex flinched back.
"No—no—no—" Rex backed away to the wall. It was as if he was clutching it with his body.
Anakin didn't blame him. Obi-Wan was a friend.
"I'm going to kill whoever did this." Anakin decided angrily. He punched the wall, with his metal hand, leaving a dent and fully embracing the anger that had so happily built up inside him.
"Sir—" Rex looked as if he wanted to protest.
"Obi-Wan is dead!" Anakin shouted. "Do you not get that! You're a clone, haven't you faced death all the time? Why don't you understand?"
Rex flinched away from Anakin again. He looked down. "Sir, I know this isn't you. The General I served under would never do this. He'd never say these things."
"Isn't it?" Anakin laughed coldly. "Whatever, I'm doing. Don't try to stop me." He stormed away.
Rex didn't try to stop him.
Anakin felt himself go dark. So this is what it's like to reach your true potential.
...
Ahsoka glared at Dooku. "You—you killed him."
"Yes, it seems I did." Dooku shrugged. "Don't worry, it was all part of the plan."
"It was a shit plan." Ahsoka snorted.
"And this is why you were kept in that cell for a year. Your sarcasm got on my nerves." Dooku snarled. "You should be grateful. I saved your life."
Ahsoka resisted the urge to show hurt at the comment. "I didn't need your help. And it's most certainly not wanted."
Dooku laughed. "Of course it isn't. Why should it be? But be grateful for the life you had, even if part of it was spent killing without question. Even you have to admit, killing is fun once you get into it."
Ahsoka bit her tongue. It would be best not to say anything. As a brainwashed minion, the killing was fun, but as a person with their own mind, it was most certainly not fun. She stood up and brushed herself off.
Before Dooku could say some witty remark about her lack of words, they began to hear swings and cries from the droids. Blaster fire filled her lekku. The droids advanced onto whoever was attacking them. Ahsoka was too scared to move. Who the kriff was there?
Her question was answered quickly. The blaster fire eventually stopped and Anakin ran through the door. His lightsaber was held firmly in his hand, and it was activated, too. His now bright yellow eyes scanned the room. They looked over the dead clones with hurt, but his eyes turned enraged at the sight of Obi-Wan's body.
"Which one of you killed him?" Anakin demanded.
Dooku and Ahsoka stayed silent. Probably for different reasons. Dooku just didn't want to be killed, and Ahsoka was more hurt by the fact that Anakin probably thought she could kill Obi-Wan because just a day or two ago she was a brainwashed assassin. Just because she tried to kill them two days ago does not mean that she will continue to kill them.
"ANSWER ME!" Anakin yelled. "I WILL KILL YOU ALL FOR THIS!"
Dooku glanced at Ahsoka. "I killed him."
Ahsoka's eyes widened in surprise. Dooku was usually so selfish. On any other day he would've lied and said that she killed Obi-Wan
Anakin growled at Dooku. "Do you regret it?"
"I was just following orders." Dooku replied without hesitation.
"I said, do you regret it?" Anakin hissed.
This was the most mad Ahsoka had ever seen Anakin be. And he'd been mad. Once, she disobeyed an order that cost them the battle, and he was furious. He couldn't talk to her for a week. It was awful, but she had Obi-Wan to help her through it. Now, she didn't.
Ahsoka silently crept to the door. The box was in her hand. Anakin had been slowly moving into the room, so it was a lot easier to do so. Plus, he was pretty focused on Dooku anyway.
She and Dooku locked eyes. She looked away and disappeared behind the door and out into the hallway. She crept over the mutilated droid parts.
Leaving Anakin was hard, but she had to find Rex. Besides, Anakin could take care of himself. He'd be fine. There were multiple escape pods anyway. She could find him later. Hopefully he'd be less angry.
Once she declared herself a reasonable distance from the bridge, she began running. She called out Rex's name, hoping for an answer. After a minute or two, she heard one.
"Ahsoka!" It said. The voice had to be Rex. It sounded just like him. To be fair, so did the rest of the clones, but this voice had a certain...bounce in it. After basically living with clones for a little bit, it was hard to not be able to distinguish their voices. She talked about it to Shaak Ti once. Shaak Ti said she had a good ear (well, lekku.)
She ran to the voice. She turned down a hallway to see Rex running down it. She smiled and sighed in relief. "Rex!"
Rex ran to her and once they reached each other, they embraced into a hug.
"We need to go." Ahsoka pulled away. "Anakin—" she stifled a sob. "He Fell."
Rex nodded. "I was there. Is it bad?"
"Dooku's probably dead. Obi-Wan is dead." Ahsoka replied. "It's bad."
"What's the box for?" Rex asked.
Ahsoka shrugged. "I've got no idea."
Before Rex could say anything else, she took Rex's arm and began to run through the hallways to the escape pods. They were the only thing that couldn't be tracked by the Republic. Well, they could, but whoever was in them would need to activate it first. An actual ship would be much more ideal, but they were always tracked. Ahsoka was never told where the trackers in those ships were so even if she wanted to take them out, she couldn't. Plus, the ships in the hangar were too noticeable. It was too easy to tell they were Republic military ships.
When they made it, Rex began typing in old codes furiously to add some extra security and control to the pod. "I'm done."
Ahsoka smiled in appreciation.
"Going anywhere?" A familiar voice said from behind them.
Ahsoka spun around. "Anakin."
"Give the box to me." Anakin ordered. "It was left to me after your death. I want it back."
"No." Ahsoka said.
"And why not?" Anakin asked with a tilt of his head.
"Because the Force wants me to have it." Ahsoka couldn't keep her voice from shaking. Everything was happening too fast. Just a few days ago she'd tried to kill Anakin. Now he was trying to kill her. It didn't make sense.
Anakin laughed. "It wanted you to have it? You, the one who tried to kill me. You, the one who was brainwashed just a day ago. You, the murderer."
Ahsoka clenched her teeth together. He just wanted a reaction out of her. That was it. That's all he wanted.
Anakin activated his lightsaber again. It was still blue. He didn't move. He was waiting for her to do something with the box.
Ahsoka felt something from the Force. It pointed to the box. She carefully opened it. She gasped and put one of her hands on her mouth.
"My old lightsabers..." she whispered. She looked up, but then she picked up her shoto. It felt so...light. Way lighter than she remembered. And the kyber crystals were clearly part of the Light Side of the Force. She had to fix that. She didn't feel connected to any one side of the Force. Maybe both. Or none.
Ahsoka closed her eyes and reached out into the Force. Specifically the kyber crystals. They were still connected to her. She felt her lightsabers lift up into the air and come apart. She felt the kyber crystals be forced into the air. She felt herself changing them. With a burst of effort, she shoved Force energy of the Dark Side and a little bit of Light Side into them. With a ray of light, they became Neutral, the Dark and Light cancelling each other out.
Putting the lightsabers back together was relatively easy. They fell back into her hands. Her fingers grazed over all the dents and scratches, finally to the ignition. She flipped the switch and blades the color of fresh snow emerged from the cold cylinders.
Anakin rolled his eyes. Maybe she took too long to open the box. "We've reached the end of the line, Snips."
Ahsoka swallowed down her sadness. This wasn't how she wanted to say goodbye to her old Master. "Of course, Skyguy." She stopped her voice from cracking at the last second. As much as she didn't want to admit it, it would probably be the last time she would call her by her old nickname. If only Obi-Wan hadn't died.
She ran at him with her sabers carried behind her. Last minute, she swung them up into an X to protect her body from the swing Anakin would ultimately swing at her. She was right.
Ahsoka removed the shoto from the X and tried to hit Anakin's side. He had to let go of her other saber to block the shoto.
She twisted her other saber around in her hand to swing up, almost as if she was doing an uppercut with her lightsaber. Anakin jumped back to dodge it.
The dance like this continued for a little bit. Both were evenly matched. With every twist, turn, and jump, the both of them lost a bit of energy. Every advance they made took up strength. Every hit cost them their friendship.
She did a backflip away from Anakin's blade and landed swiftly onto her feet. She ran to Anakin's left, knowing he wasn't great with blocking his sides. He noticed her plan and turned to face her. As she swung both her sabers at his side, Anakin blocked with his saber. He towered over her with her lightsabers horizontal over his vertical blade.
"Ahsoka!" Rex yelled by the sidelines.
Ahsoka did her best to not look at him. That would most certainly cost her if she did. So she just assumed he wanted her out of there. And Force, did she agree.
She gathered the rest of her strength into the Force, pushing Anakin away as hard and fast as she could. He flew all the way to the far wall, crashing onto it and proceeding to collapse to the ground onto a few crates.
Ahsoka stood there for a few seconds. Her breathing was deep. She was so tired. The adrenaline from before wore off. She ran over to Rex. "Let's go."
Rex hastily got into the escape pod.
"Wait!" Anakin cried from where he lay. "Bring me with you!" His eyes were no longer yellow.
Ahsoka and Rex glanced at each other. She moved to help her brother, but Rex held her arm back. "He won't stay like that forever. As much as I care about the General, I know just as much as you how the Dark Side works. We can't take him with us."
Ahsoka sighed. Rex was right. She looked back at Anakin. "See you, Master." She whispered. She bit the inside of her mouth to stop the tears from streaming down her face. They just hovered around her eyes.
When she got into the escape pod, the door closed behind her. "Where do we go now?"
"Wherever we want." Rex replied.
"Let's go to Thabeska." Ahsoka said after a moment.
So that's the end
I hope you guys liked this story. The ending was hard to write and I think it's a bit choppy, but I did my best
And......
There is a surprise i mentioned a few times.
It is.......
There will be a sequel. I told people there would not be one just to throw you guys off, so sorry about that. I think the title will be The Fulcrum. I'm excited to write it. I've got the cover done. It takes place one year after this one. And I'm so glad I managed to keep it a secret. I hope you guys will enjoy it
You will have to wait a bit for the sequel. I'm going to write a lot of it out first, so in the meantime you'll get another story I've written out pretty well so far called At the End, which will be posted later today on Wattpad and Ao3
It has been really hard to get this all finished at times, but I am so happy I've finally done it. This is my first real long fanfic (or any story) that I've finished completely, so I'm so thankful to all the readers who left such positive comments and/or votes. It meant so much to me and kept me going. There's too many to count, so I won't name anyone, just know that your efforts were appreciated so much
This work is mine. I don't own any of the characters and setting, and the plot is based off of the Winter Soldier's backstory in the MCU. If I (or anyone else) catches anyone stealing/editing this, I will personally yell at you a lot. I work hard on this. It may not seem like it at times, but I do
Thank you, everyone
Have a good day/night or time on an alien planet, and may the 4th be with you
