chapter three, darling
Raven had managed to sleep for about five hours. When she woke up, about seven in the morning, she immediately got up, and got dressed. She wore a light brown long sleeve, and black pants along with her black combat boots.
Today was not a normal day. The seventeen year old girl, had made her way to her best friend's door. She knocked twice. After waiting for a hot minute, the door opened and it revealed a sleepy and tired Cassie.
"Were you still sleeping?" Raven questioned the girl's state, confused.
"Yes Raven, I was. Not everyone wakes up at five am, like you." Cassie complained about being woken up.
"Shut up. We have important things to do." Raven let pushed Cassie aside and let herself in the room. She sat down, in the wooden chair, by the desk.
"Do enlightened me please." The older woman yawned, annoyed.
"Do you remember, about what Rick Grimes said?"
"Raven for the love of God, get to the point. I just woke up please." Cassie was begging her best friend, as she washed her face.
"About the new group. The saviors. That they are located about sixteen miles from here." Raven rolled her eyes, seeing that Cassie was not paying her much attention. So she slapped her arm.
"You bitch!" Cassie looked at her, shocked, with her mouth hanging open.
"I swear to God, Rave, you're crazy. But, as your best friend, and former 'Co-Leader' of the Society, what do you want to do?" Raven almost broke a smile at Cassandra. She truly, did love her best friend.
"Alright. I suggest we go and check out the place. Get a look, know what we are dealing with." A stern look rested on her face.
"I agree. But do we send groups of people, or just a bunch alone?" Cassie threw her pyjamas somewhere in the room and sat down on the bed to put her boots on, after she finished buttoning her jeans.
"We shouldn't risk it. We send the best fighters, alone." Raven took a small knife and hid it in her sleeve. She always does that, just in case.
"Okay, so you, Mary, and maybe Thomas?" The girl was walking around her, small room, trying to tidy, the about twenty shirts on the floor.
"Are you not coming?" The younger girl blurred out.
"No, I'm not. I don't feel like it. My legs can't handle all of that, so no." Cassie laughed. Raven rolled her eyes, realizing what she meant.
"Also, not Thomas." Raven looked directly at Cassie. Her best friend returned her a questioning look.
"He's been really busy lately, so just Mary and I."
"Okay..? Busy doing what?" The blue eyed woman was curious, feeling the need to be aware of all the gossip.
"No idea. I have to go inform Mary. See you tonight, Cassie." Raven waved goodbye to her favorite person.
"Bye Rave!" Cassandra's voice echoed in the hall, as Raven, shut the door behind her.

Mary was located in her usual spot, as a lookout guard. She was walking up and down the cold, steel balcony, at the east wing, of the facility. Her hands were carrying a big riffle, with a scope.
She caught the sound of a door opening from behind her. She spun around and raised the gun to the person, that was now standing in front of her.
"Woah woah! Calm down! I'm here to switch posts with you." The man raised his hands in surrender, scared of the woman standing over him.
"Why the fuck, are we switching posts? My shift ends at eight." Mary was glancing at the man with confusion, lingering in her eyes.
"I don't know. Raven's orders." He shook his head at her.
"So I'm going to โโ you know." He waved his hands around awkwardly, as he walked down the balcony, taking his spot as guard.
"Yeah, yeah shut up." Mary rolled her eyes and walked to the steel door. She got inside and ran through people to find Raven. She wouldn't have changed her shift for no reason at all.
Mary wasn't looking ahead of her. She bumped into someone. She mumbled a quick apology and continued walking, but she felt someone grab her arm.
"Hey! Mary, slow down!" Raven stopped her friend from getting further away, by grasping her shoulders.
"Why the fuck did you change my shift!" Mary screamed in Raven's face. The girl was practically furious. Guarding the society's facility meant the world to her. She never understood why, but it just did.
"Relax! Relax! I, of course have a reason. You and I need to take care of something. You are my best fighter and i need you today." Raven led the girl into the armory.
"I really like where this is going. You know I love me some action." Mary chuckled and followed right after Raven. She was still carrying her rifle.
"I know, I know. God, do you ever go anywhere without it?" Raven asked, referring to Mary's favorite ever gun.
"Nope. And look, I've added some new details to the look. First of all we have this strap!" She said happily, and pointed at the strap hanging from her rifle. It had a military type of pattern.
"And...this." She said, opening her jacket and revealing a strap around her torso, full of bullets. She always kept ammo on a pocket. But she made an improvement, to make her job easier.
"Alright, alright!" Raven picked up a Kalashnikov from the wall. She tapped Mary's back, in a way to tell her, they are ready to go.
"Were are we going?" Mary followed after her group's leader.
"Curiosity killed the cat." Raven whispered to her. They both made it to the front door. The younger girl signalized for the person that was guarding it, to let them pass through.
"Okay, let's go." She nodded her head to the guard, and both of the girls walked out of the facility. Raven led them to a place outside of the main building, where they stored the cars.
"Oh, we are taking a car, alright. That means we are talking real shit." Mary got on the passenger seat, right after Raven sat down in the front.
"You have your game face on. Why do you have your game face on?"
"What the hell is a 'game face'? I don't have a game face!" Raven looked at Mary full of concern.
"Of course you do. It's this thing, you do with your face. You just get all serious, out of the blue." Mary laughed.
"No. Let's go." Raven started the car and they disappeared in a matter of seconds.
โโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโ
"We have been driving around for ten minutes, can you just tell me where the hell we are going and why?" Mary was frustrated at this point. She was completely clueless about what was happening and on top of that Raven was ignoring her.
"The sanctuary." Raven spoke calmly, not ever taking her eyes of the road ahead of them.
"What the hell is 'the sanctuary' and why are we going there?" The older one of the two asked.
"It's the Saviors base." Mary furrowed her eyebrows in confusion.
"The one Rick told us about? Mate are you on drugs or something? He literally spoke about them with us yesterday. Said they're dangerous." Raven huffed as her friend was getting on her nerves.
"Oh! Yeah โโ yeah! The group with the hot latina! Of course I remember." The woman laughed and glanced over at Raven.
"God." Raven let out a sigh of frustration.
"But you still haven't answered my question. Why are we going there?"
"To check the place out. Go around the perimeter, count how many guards or snipers they have. Listen in, on their conversations. They might know who we are, and where we are. We have to know what kind of people we are dealing with." Raven stopped the car and undid her seatbelt. She jumped out and waited for her friend to do the same.
"Okay. So, we are going the rest of the way on foot." Mary spoke sarcastically.
"Yes, Mary. Yes." Raven physically rolled her eyes at her.
"Oh! So you're not kidding. Okay. Okay."
"Can you do me a favor and be the Mary that is a fighter and knows what she's doing instead of this? Because I chose you for a reason. I need this to go well. Zero mistakes." Raven spoke tired of whatever was going on. She did like Mary, of course she did, she was her friend. She has never seen Mary like this. The girl is always serious. She knows what she's doing. At the moment Raven was doubting that.
"You're right. Sorry." Mary looked away and started walking after Raven towards their destination.
Mary knew the younger girl didn't mean no harm. She always, and I mean always, spoke her opinion on others. That's what she liked about Raven. She wasn't afraid she'd hurt your feelings if she told you, you're doing something wrong. But everything has to go her way. If someone does something, that Raven hasn't planned out, she can go crazy.
"Listen. The savior's base, has to be about ten to fifteen minutes on foot from here." Raven pointed at the direction of the sanctuary, as she also filled Mary in, on the details. She also informed the girl about the missing gun.
"It's Thomas." Mary uttered, after thinking for a few seconds.
"Wha โโ what are you saying?"
"He took the gun."
"That's a โโ how do you know that?" Raven didn't know what to think. Mary wouldn't just accuse someone of taking a gun.
"Haven't you noticed his weird behavior this past days? I just thought it was from stress, or something like that. But now that you've told me that? I'm 99.9% sure he has it."
"What weird behavior? I just know that he's really busy with something." Raven was mortified. If what Mary was saying was true, then how did Raven not see it? Was she not a good leader? A good leader would've noticed. A good leader could've done something to help. A good leader should've prevented something like that from happening.
"He's just on edge. I talked to him and he literally bumped on my shoulder and told me to fuck off. But I've been keeping an eye on him after that, and he acts really weird. He's been sneaking around, always checking his surroundings, to see if he's being watched." Mary felt really puzzled about Thomas's behavior.
Raven just nodded, as she returned back to her thoughts. Both of the girls continued walking. None of them spoke a word to each other. The silence was really loud and the tension was high.
Both of them stole secret glances from one another, but they didn't dare to speak up. They had been walking for quite the time now. With the corner of her eye, Raven caught a glimpse of a marvelous grey building in the horizon.
"Mary." Raven made a motion with her head to her companion, in order for her to see the building ahead.
"Holy fuck." Mary's mouth was hanging open, in shock.
"Holy fuck indeed." Raven shook her head agreeing with Mary.
"Come on, move!" Raven led the two into the woods, so they could use the tall trees to their advantage.
The girls walked with their guns, steady in their hands, ready to fire. They both walked cautiously, searching around for anything unusual. They were approaching the building, they were getting really close.
"Raven. Stop." Mary put her hand out, in front of Raven, to stop her.
"What." Raven looked up at Mary. The other girl raised her hand to point at something. They had gotten dangerously close to the sanctuary.
"Okay listen. We'll sit here, wait for the night to fall, then we will try to get a closer look, maybe circle around. The dark is our best friend, Mary, keep that in mind." Raven sat down behind a big log of wood to hide herself. Mary mimicked her action as well.

Hours passed and dark finally took over the sky. Raven and Mary had been sitting quiet, observing everything they could. There was one guard at the side door, that was facing them, and another up at a balcony. The girls also noticed some walkers chained to the fence, which was insanely weird.
They heard a person talking, further away. Raven instantly glanced at Mary. Both girls turned around and tried to get a peak at the people having a conversation, but also at the conversation itself.
They weren't able to get a look at the people, neither they could hear anything they said. After a while one of the two men left, meaning there was just one guard. The walkie talkie on Raven's belt, made a sound, and out of nowhere Cassandra's voice echoed through the forest.
The girls ducked down. Raven was trying, with everything in her, to shut it down, but luck wasn't on her side today. Cassie kept on calling Raven's name concerned. She was hitting the walkie, to somehow kill it. Footsteps were heard from behind them, they drew closer by the second.
"Fuck!" Raven mentally cursed at everything in her life. She acted in the moment and threw the walkie to the side, as far as she could. She made a mental note to herself to pick it up after, if they make it out of there alive.
They were both gripping to their guns for dear life. Raven closed her eyes for a spit second and opened them again. No, this wasn't a sick dream. The person coming their way, stepped on something and a loud creak was heard from under his foot.
Raven turned her head right and spotted a man stepping on the walkie. Mary turned to her, with her eyes wide open. Oh, they were so fucked.
"You know I can see you right?" The man spoke up. Both girls went to raise their guns.
"Drop them. Now." He called out to them, aiming an automatic machine gun right at their faces. Mary looked at Raven, for confirmation to lay her gun down. Raven eyed the man โโ well boy from head to toe. He just smiled at her.
Raven nodded at Mary. They both put the riffles down and raised their hands.
"This can either go two ways darling. I either shoot you right here, right now. Or I call my men and we take you in for a little trip to the sanctuary." He finished his sentence with a chuckle. Raven smiled at his words, which he found confusing but also pretty. She had a pretty smile.
"I think I'll take option three, darling." She took the hidden knife out of her sleeve, and threw it at him. She hit his shoulder and he instantly fell to his knees screaming out in pain.
"Come on, run!" Raven phased through the dark trees. Mary picked up the guns and followed after her. They were both running fast, to get as far away as they could.
"Holy shit, Raven! That was so fucking amazing!" Mary laughed out. Raven had fallen a little behind, but she was keeping up.
"Are we out of the woods yet?" Raven said breathless, from all the running.
