Rafe watched her from a distance, hidden among the dunes, his heart thumping in his chest. Daisy moved with a kind of untouchable grace, her bare feet sinking into the sand as if she belonged to it. She was different from everyone else in his life—strong, stubborn, and didn't want anything more than being away from him. That only made him want her more.

It wasn't obsession, he told himself.

She was supposed to be his. He'd tried playing it her way, tried being patient, but patience wasn't in Rafe Cameron's nature. The longer she kept her distance, the more his mind fell into dark and dangerous places.

He'd seen her with JJ earlier, laughing in that way that made his chest tighten.

JJ Maybank, with his stupid smirk and his easy charm, wasn't good enough for her. None of them were. Daisy deserved someone who could give her the world, who could protect her from all the chaos she surrounded herself with. Someone like him.

And if she couldn't see that, he'd make her see it.

Daisy stopped abruptly, sensing she was no longer alone. Her eyes scanned the beach, the shadows stretching long in the fading light. "Who's there?" she called, her voice steady but laced with unease.

Rafe's grip tightened around the handle of the hunting knife he'd brought, more for reassurance than anything else. He had no intention of hurting her. He just needed her to understand that they were meant to be together—even if it meant scaring her a little.
