CHAPTER SEVEN - THE NEED FOR SPEED

I WAS WEARING A GREEN HOODIE as all of us were at the race track to cheer on Sarah. "Ladies and gentlemen, welcome! Today, Sarah Thompson will try to break the world hoverboard speed record!" The judge announced as everyone cheered.

"You'll take one lap around the track. If you beat the current record—This trophy is yours. You ready?" The judge asked. "Let's do this!" Sarah replied as she hopped onto her hoverboard. "You got this, Sarah!" We all shouted. "Ready, set... go!" The judge shouted as the gun went off and Sarah began her lap.

"Huh, there's someone else on the track!" Levi pointed out. Another person ended up joining Sarah. The stranger ended up beating Sarah. "That's a new world record! He beat the old record by a full ten seconds! Who is that mystery man?" The judge wondered. "It's me, Victor Vincent!" Victor said, appearing from the bushes. "What? Victor broke the record? No way!" Sarah said. Victor got up to collect the trophy. "I did it! I've finally won my fiftieth trophy!" Victor exclaimed as everyone cheered.

"Victor is the undisputed champ!" Monty said to Sarah. "I'm sorry you weren't the one to break the speed record, Sarah." Brody said. "Man that Victor... he'll do anything to get a trophy." Calvin added.

We were all playing pool. Well, except for Sarah, who was sitting at a table with her hoverboard. "I missed again!" Calvin said. "You'll get it, Cal. Come on, Sarah. It's your shot." Brody informed. "Ah, can somebody shoot for me? I need to finish this." Sarah replied. "Uh, Sarah?" Levi questioned.

"Yeah." Sarah replied. "What are you doing?" Levi asked. "I am working on a new airfoil suit. It'll reduce my wind drag." Sarah answered as Brody leaned over his girlfriend to see her work. "Oh, right. So you can break the speed record." Hayley said.

"Exactly." Sarah told her. There was suddenly loud hooting. "Bet we can all guess who that is." I muttered as Victor walked in. Sarah broke her pencil just looking at him. "Autographs in the classroom. Oh, hello. Someone's jealous." Victor said.

"Victor, once I'm finished with my airfoil suit, your record will be toast." Sarah informed. "Listen slow-poke, this trophy is mine." Victor said. "Not for long." Sarah said as she walked away.

I was on Brody's trunk as I held Levi's hand. "Hey, guys. She's putting on her new racing suit before she tests it. So, it'll be about another minute or so." Calvin said. "Cool." Preston replied as he hopped off the back of Calvin's truck with Sarah's hoverboard in his hand. "She's taking this speedy record a little too seriously, no?" Levi questioned.

"Hmm, I think it's good to have a goal, to push yourself to be the best." Hayley replied. That is until Sarah appeared. "Oh, you aren't serious? Are you?" Hayley asked. "What? This suit should allow me to go alot faster, thank you. Ready, Presto?" Sarah asked.

"Yeah. Whenever you are." Preston replied. "Time to make history." Sarah said as we all followed Sarah and Preston. "I hope it works better than it looks." Hayley commented. Preston started Sarah's hoverboard. "Alright, you're good." Preston said.

"Thanks." Sarah said. "Okay. Ready, set... Go!" Preston shouted as Sarah took off on her hoverboard. "She's definitely going faster this time." Brody commented. Sarah ended up flying off of her hoverboard.

"Oh no... she's flying off her hoverboard!" Preston exclaimed. Sarah suddenly bumped into something. We all rushed to see if she was okay. "Are you okay?" Preston asked. "Yeah I'm fine, but what was that? I didn't even make it to the finish line!" Sarah replied. "Argh!" Speedwing exclaimed.

I noticed that what she bumped into was a monster. "Uhh... guys!" I said. "Were you trying to go fast? 'Cause compared to me, you're as slow as molasses! Slower than snails in quicksand! Slower than—" Speedwing said. "We get the point." Brody interrupted him.

"I'm Speedwing, the lightning fast Galactic Ninja!" Speedwing introduced himself. "Another Galactic Ninja? How many are there?" Calvin questioned. "Only one that you need to worry about. And I'm here to teach you a Ninja lesson." Speedwing said.

"I'd say you're the one who's going to learn something from us!" Brody informed as we all had out our morphers with our Power Stars in them. "Ninja Spin!" We shouted as we all morphed. "Ninja Rangers fear no danger!" We shouted. "I'm fast, but with my special Speed Star, nothing can stop me!" Speedwing exclaimed.

"An evil Speed Star?" Preston questioned. "Yep... just try to keep up!" Speedwing replied. He started zooming through us. He was going too fast that we couldn't land an attack on him. We all fell to the ground.

"Whoa, that star makes him so fast!" Sarah exclaimed. "Jealous Pink Ranger?" Speedwing asked as he continued to attack us. "Surrender your Stars to me, and I won't destroy you." Speedwing said as Brody moved out of the way and we all regrouped.

"I'm sorry, but that's never gonna happen." Brody said. "Ninjas don't give up." Hayley said. "We fight together..." Levi started to say. "As a team." Calvin finished. "And as a family." I added. "Then say goodbye as a team and family!" Speedwing exclaimed.

We all headed over to attack him but ended up failing. "Guys, we gotta use his speed against him!" Brody informed. "Good idea. Keep him busy, ok?" Preston said. "Sure thing, Preston. We're on it." Hayley replied.

Calvin, Hayley, Levi, and I kept him busy while Preston, Brody, and Sarah worked on a plan. Brody came to attack Speedwing. "Yo, featherhead. You fight like a Thanksgiving turkey." Brody said. All of us surrounded him. "You tricked me!" Speedwing exclaimed.

We all got out our blasters. "Yup, and now you're cooked, birdbrain!" Sarah said. "Ninja Blast!" Brody shouted. "Rockstorm Blast!" Levi shouted. But before we could fire at him, he ended up disappearing. All of us demorphed.

"Those Galactic Ninjas are full of surprises." Levi said. "Yeah, he said he'd be back, too." Calvin agreed. "Let's go." Brody said as we all headed out. We were all at the race track. "Are you sure you're ready to beat Victor's time, Sarah?" The judge asked. "I promise you... today's the day." Sarah replied as she got on her hoverboard.

"Then, good luck. Ready, set... Go!" The judge shouted as Sarah took off on her hoverboard. We all cheered for her. She crossed the finish line as everyone cheered. "She's done it, folks! She's beaten Victor's time and taken the world record!" The judge said as everyone cheered once more and Sarah rushed up to us.

Brody, Calvin, and Hayley all hugged her. "You did it, Sarah! We're so proud of you!" Hayley said. "All your hard work is finally paying off!" Calvin added. "Thank you." Sarah said as Mick came up to us.

"It's not that big of a deal." Sarah said. The judge took the trophy from Victor and handed it to Sarah. "Congrats." She said. "Can I see that?" Preston asked. "Yeah." Sarah replied. "Check it out, Mick?" Preston said.

That's when Speedwing appeared as he crashed. "Speedwing!" Calvin said as everyone rushed out. We all got in a fighting stance. "I bet you broke that record because of my Speed Star, Pink Ranger." Speedwing said. "Sarah, what's he talking about?" Brody asked.

"I... uh, um... may have used his Speed Star to make my hoverboard go faster." Sarah replied. "You what?" Levi exclaimed next to me. "I'm gonna get my Speed Star back... and take you all down!" Speedwing said. "We can talk about this later. For now... We gotta clip this bird's wings! It's Morphin' Time! Power Stars!" Brody shouted. "Lock in! Ready! Ninja Spin!" We shouted as we morphed. "Ninja Rangers fear no danger!" We all yelled. We began attacking him. "He's slower without his Star!" Brody informed. "But I'm still fast enough to take you all out!" Speedwing said as we continued fighting him.

"You're pathetic!" Speedwing said as he fired at all of us. "Good, time for me to get my Speed Star back! You're gonna regret putting it in this piece of junk! Finally, it's mine again!" Speedwing said as he took his star out of Sarah's hoverboard. "Not if I can help it! Ninja Blast!" Sarah said as she fired at the star, knocking out of Speedwing's hand. It ended up attaching to Brody's helmet. "Brody! His Speed Star's stuck in your helmet! Are you okay?" Sarah asked, worried about her boyfriend.

"Yeah I'm fine, but—uh oh, my legs!" Brody said as his legs started speeding up. "What's happening?" Sarah asked. "I don't know, I can't stop running!" Brody replied. "Oh no, you broke my Star!" Speedwing exclaimed. "Really, I hadn't noticed!" Brody said as he took off. "He needs help! You guys take on Speedwing, I'll catch up with Brody on my Zord!" Preston said as we all agreed. "You're going down, beak-face!" Levi exclaimed. "Not if I destroy you first, you multi-colored cretins!" Speedwing said. We all began attacking Speedwing.

"Ninja Blast!" Calvin, Hayley, Sarah, and I shouted. "Rockstorm Blast!" Levi shouted as well. We attacked Speedwing as he fell to the ground. Speedwing ended up getting away. "He's gone!" Hayley exclaimed. "Guys, this is all my fault... I should have never used monster technology. If I hadn't wanted to break the record so badly, Brody wouldn't be in trouble." Sarah said. "Listen, I get it, Sarah... everybody wants to be the best." Levi told her. I placed my hand on her shoulder. "Aiden's right. You would try anything to get there." I agreed.

"You just can't take shortcuts to get there." Hayley added. "True." Sarah said. "Hey, what about the others?" Calvin asked. "I'll call them. Preston, Brody, how are you doing?" Sarah asked.

"We're still trying to slow him down." Preston replied. "Wait a sec—If Brody can control where he's going, then I have an idea that might work! We'll go after Speedwing, and, Brody, you come straight to us. Preston, can you use your Element Star to make a clear path for him?" Sarah asked.

"Sure can Sarah, I'll do it now!" Preston replied. "You looking for me? Come on, let's fight." Speedwing said. We all started fighting him. Levi attacked him as we moved out of the way. Speedwing ended up firing it right back at us.

"This'll be over fast, especially without the Red Ranger!" Speedwing said. "Yeah, where is he?" Hayley asked. "There's footsteps coming. Brody's nearly here." Sarah replied. "Any second now." Levi said. "Any second till what?" Speedwing questioned as he turned around.

"Element Star, Ninja Forest Attack!" Sarah shouted. She tried to attack him but failed. Brody ended up coming and bumped into him, attaching the star to Speedwing's back. He started running off.

"Ha! Now he's the one who can't stop running!" Levi commented. We all rushed after Speedwing. We all began doing roll call as we rushed passed him.

"Power Of The Ninja!"

"Stealth Of The Ninja!"

"Strength Of The Ninja!"

"Spirit Of The Ninja!"

"Speed Of The Ninja!'

"Poison Of The Ninja!"

"Rhythm Of The Ninja!"

We all regrouped one by one. "Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel!" We all shouted. "Curse this broken Star!" Speedwing exclaimed. Brody changed into Lion Fire Armor. "Out of the fire and into the fight! Lion Fire Red! Super Steel Slash! Ninja Spin!" We shouted. One by one, all of us glowed our respective color as we slashed Speedwing. "Lion Fire Strike! Final Attack!" Brody shouted as he exploded. Speedwing then grew big. We made the Ninja Fusion Zord as we got into Ninja Super Steel Mode. "Time to earn my wings!" Speedwing said.

We started fighting him. He blocked our attacks. "It'll take more than that to defeat me!" Speedwing exclaimed as he went into the air. Brody attacked him as he fell to the ground. "Shot down by Earth Ninjas? Unbelievable!" Speedwing exclaimed. "Ninja Fusion Zord, Master Slash! Final Attack!" We shouted. "Lion Fire Slash, Final Attack!" Brody shouted. We finally destroyed Speedwing. 

We were all at the race track once more. "Hey, guys. Where is Victor? Isn't he about to try and break my record again?" Sarah asked. "Yup, he's due any second now." Brody replied. "Great. There's something I need to do first." Sarah said as she walked over to the judge.

"Sorry, excuse me, hi. I have something to say. This trophy is for being the fastest hoverboard rider in history. It's an honor just to hold it. But, I'm not proud of how I made my hoverboard go faster. Technically, I didn't break any rules, but... I was just so obsessed with being the best, that I put myself and my friends in danger. I did things that were, well, just plain wrong." Sarah explained.

"So, what are you saying?" The judge asked. "I'm giving the trophy back." Sarah replied as she handed her the trophy and walked off. I hugged Sarah. "That was really brave, Sarah." I informed. "We're proud of you." Levi added. "Thank you, guys." Sarah said.

"All right, well. I guess the trophy goes to..." The judge started to say. "Me! It goes to me! It goes to me, right?" Victor asked. He was dressed as a bush. "Um... What are you wearing?" The judge asked.

"Oh, they're pyjamas." Victor said. "Sorry we're late." Monty said as he was pushing a dummy on a hoverboard. "Victor was just tubo charging his hoverboard. But he's ready to race now, aren't you, buddy?" Monty asked. "Get back!" Victor whispered. Monty finally realized what was happening.

"Victor! What are you doing?" Monty whispered. "Don't you guys know I'm so fast I can be in two places at once? Whoa!" Victor said as a man took off the helmet to reveal the dummy.

"It's a fake!" The man said. "So that's how you went so fast... That mannequin doesn't weigh anything!" Sarah exclaimed. "So, it wasn't you on the hoverboard at all! You're a big phoney!" The judge said, taking the trophy back.

The judge started the remote control as the mannequin headed straight for Victor and Monty. "Well, Victor's record seems to have fizzled. Perhaps you would like to try again?" The judge asked. "Yeah, that'd be..." Sarah stopped as she looked at us.

"Actually... I think I got a little over-excited about beating the record. I will some other time, but for now, I'm going to enjoy hanging out with my friends and my boyfriend." Sarah said as she looked at us and Brody.

"Yeah, let's go." Sarah said as we all walked away.
