CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE - THE ABSOLUTE LIMIT SWITCH

"YES! A BREAK!" Uyeda exclaimed as Karasuno now had 17 points.

"Yahoo! They reversed it!" Kobayashi shouted in joy as he sent a high five to Uyeda.

"Did Tobio mean to give that to Hinata? Or did he make a mistake?" Nagata questioned as he heard Takashi chuckle.

"I think it was on purpose." He replied.

"Hey, that was awesome!" Tanaka complimented. "That was right below! Did you aim for that?!"

"Hinata was close to the net, so I made the set close, too." Tobio responded. "I'm glad it worked out."

"Tobio's genius-like qualities don't lie in his techniques, but rather how stupid he is." Oikawa spoke up. "Where others would probably hold back, he goes straight for it. In both a good or bad way."

"When he's concentrating, he can't see around himself and doesn't even realize that no one's keeping up with him." Oikawa continued as he narrowed his eyes.

"But... Now an idiot that'll walk in front of Tobio has appeared."

"Their #10 finally made a move." Iwaizumi pointed out as Oikawa shrugged.

"Yeah... Those two never cease to surprise me." Oikawa added on as Iwaizumi looked at him.

"But... A volleyball team with six strong players is stronger."

"Come on, bring it!"

"Let's get this one!"

"Yeah!"

"If you understand that, then good." Iwaizumi said.

Both Aoba Johsai and Karasuno stared at each other with determination.

"We're going to win!"

Tsukishima was up to serve. "Tsukishima, nice serve!" Daichi encouraged as Tsukishima threw the ball up.

"Got it!" Watari announced, receiving the ball.

Oikawa tossed to Iwaizumi as he scored a point for Aoba Johsai as Tobio was late on blocking him. Oikawa and Iwaizumi high fived each other.

Tobio tossed to Tanaka who spiked it and scored a point for Karasuno in which they cheered. But Aoba Johsai got the point back.

TWEEEET!

Yahaba was subbing in for Kindaichi. Yahaba was up to serve as he sends the ball over. "Asahi!" Daichi shouted as Asahi received the ball.

"Sorry!" Asahi apologized as Tobio covered for him, getting into setting position.

"Tanaka-san!" He shouted, tossing the ball towards the second-year.

"Two blockers!"

Tanaka jumped up and spiked the ball past the blockers, but Oikawa managed to dive down to receive it.

"Yahaba!"

"Right! Kyotani!"

Yahaba tossed towards Kyotani who jumped up and spiked the ball as he gained a point for Aoba Johsai. Takashi looked at the score.

"A break. If they get into the 20s first, it's going to be rough for them." Nagata commented.

"Don't let the gap widen!" Kobayashi prayed.

Yahaba served again as Nishinoya received it on time. "Nice receive!" Tobio complimented before getting into setting position once more.

Hinata ran over as he jumped up. Hinata spiked the ball low and managed to get a point for Karasuno as Yahaba was late on receiving.

"You little brat..." Oikawa said in irritation.

TWEEEET!

Kindaichi was subbing in for Yahaba once more. "Tanaka, nice serve!" Daichi encouraged.

Tanaka threw the ball up in the air as he sent it over the net. "Got it!" Watari called out, receiving the ball.

"They're coming on the right! Right!"

"Number 16! Number 16!"

"Stop them!"

Asahi spiked the ball down but it was saved on time by Iwaizumi. The game continued on, making the audience intrigued.

Aoba Johsai was able to get the point as Tobio was late on receiving it. "Damn it!" He said.

"All right!"

"Shit... they've reach the 20s..." Takashi mumbled.

"We don't have to panic. It's still just one point." Daichi reassured his team.

Kyotani was up to serve next. The whistle blew as Kyotani did his jump serve and Daichi managed to save it. Tobio tossed the ball as Asahi jumped up but Tanaka was the one who spiked it down and earned a point for Karasuno.

TWEEEET!

Takashi looked over to see that Yamaguchi was being subbed in for Hinata. "We're counting on you, Yamaguchi!" Tanaka said.

"Stay calm!" Asahi told him.

"Give it your all!" Daichi added on.

"Right!" Yamaguchi said.

"Yamaguchi." Tsukishima spoke up as he handed him the ball. "Get a nice serve in."

Tsukishima tossed the ball to Yamaguchi, who caught it. "Yeah." He agreed. Both teams were currently tied with 20 points.

TWEEEET!

Yamaguchi did his jump floater as Kyotani tried to receive it, but it went right over his head. But Iwaizumi managed to receive it right on time.

"Watari, get the last!" Iwaizumi shouted.

"Right!" Watari agreed as he received the ball over.

"Chance ball!"

Tanaka received the ball on time as Daichi, Tsukishima, Asahi, and Tanaka started running forward to do their synchronized attack.

Asahi jumped up in the air and spiked the ball as Oikawa and Matsukawa jumped up to block him. Iwaizumi received it, making Asahi be taken aback.

"Makki!" Oikawa called out, tossing the ball towards Hanamaki. He ended up doing a feint and got the point as Tobio was too late on receiving it.

The game continued on as both teams were not giving up. Takashi looked at the scoreboard.

"Neither side is backing down." Uyeda sighed out.

"If they get another deuce like the Inter-High, do they have to keep playing until they get two points ahead?" Kobayashi questioned.

"No." Takashi replied as they looked at him. "Right now, they don't got time to think about that."

Oikawa was up to serve again. He did his jump serve and before anyone had time to react, it was already on the court. It was silent for a moment as the referee declared that it was in.

"All right!"

The score was now 22 to 24 with Aoba Johsai in the lead as Karasuno gathered around their coach. "It's that again..." Ukai began.

"We're just gonna have to pick it up." Daichi said.

"Yeah."

"Switch it up! Switch it up!"

Sugawara patted Daichi and Asahi's backs. "If we manage to touch it, we can make it work! We're not gonna lose!" Sugawara declared.

"Yeah!" His fellow third-years agreed.

TWEEEEEET!

"It's time..." Nagata began. "You have to get it, no matter what!"

Oikawa did his jump serve as Daichi managed to receieve it but he fell over from the impact and the crowd cheered.

Tsukishima, Asahi, and Tanaka rushed forward as Asahi spiked the ball past the two blockers and scoring a point for Karasuno.

"All right!"

"Yahoo! They cut off Oikawa's serves!" Kobayashi exclaimed.

"Seijoh's still at match point, though." Uyeda reminded him. "The battle for the next point will be high!"

Tsukishima had switched out with Sugawara as he whispered something to Tobio, who was nodding at his words.

"Suga-san, give us a nice serve!" Tanaka encouraged.

Tobio looked over to Hinata to see that he was concentrated. "How is he able to concentrate so intensely towards the end of the match? Though it's just his concentration!" He thought.

"Huh? Why are you picking a fight with Hinata?!" Tanaka asked.

Sugawara served the ball as Iwaizumi was able to receive it. Kindaichi jumped up but Takashi noticed that Kyotani was right behind him. Hinata seemed to have notice as well.

Tobio jumped up to block him as Hinata joined in on his block in which they successfully blocked Kyotani and gained a point.

Tobio looked at Hinata with irritation as he had rammed into his side. "I feel bad, really!" Hinata exclaimed.

"Great job taking that, Kageyama." Tanaka added on.

Both teams were now at match point. Sugawara was up to serve once more as Iwaizumi barely received it. Oikawa tossed to Hanamaki who spiked the ball.

"Front, front, front!"

"I'll get it!" Sugawara shouted out, receiving the ball before it hit the court.

All of them got ready to do another synchronized attack. "Bring it to me!" Hinata shouted. However, instead of tossing to Hinata, Tobio did a dump, leaving his teammates in shock.

Oikawa rushed forward to save it, but was too late as he looked up at Tobio with irritation, reminding him of all his past memories in junior high.

"Kageyama!"

"I know..." Oikawa mumbled under his breath as he got up. "But... I won't lose!"

TWEEEET!

"Man, when Sugawara got the first touch, I didn't think Tobio would attack." Nagata commented. "But I should've expected it. He's a splitting image of you, Kags."

"My baby brother is full of surprises, isn't he?" Takashi smirked. "He's taking after his amazing older brother."

"You're actually a trashy older brother. But we won't get into that."

"Eh?! Nagata!"

"Damn, that pisses me off!" Iwaizumi commented.

"That's definitely someone who's related to a pro setter all right." Hanamaki added on.

"He's got a setter's disposition, staying confident in a situation like that." Yahaba commented.

"Well, yeah..." Watari agreed. "I'd love some of that."

Oikawa stayed silent, remembering the first time he had met Takashi.

"Iwa-chan, come on! We're going to be late!" A first-year Oikawa exclaimed as they rushed to the court.

"I'm coming, Trashykawa!" A younger Iwaizumi huffed out. "Geez, all this just to see your idol play."

Both Oikawa and Iwaizumi went towards the railing. Karasuno was currently playing against an unknown school in the semi-finals.

"Cover! Cover!"

"Left!"

"Connect, connect!"

"There he is, Iwa-chan!" Oikawa exclaimed, pointing to a black-haired male with the number 7 jersey.

The opposing team's spiker hits the ball as it went towards out of the court.

Oikawa widened his eyes when he saw Karasuno's setter charge towards the ball.

"Ten!"

The setter turned his body and sent his famous toss towards Karasuno's ace, who jumped up and spiked the ball down past the blockers, who had a slow reaction.

The match ended with Karasuno winning as Oikawa rushed to meet the famous setter of Karasuno.

Both Iwaizumi and Oikawa spotted him walking with his teammates.

"Hey, you! Karasuno's setter!" Oikawa shouted, getting the male's attention.

"Can I help you with something, kid?"

"I'm Oikawa Tōru and this is Iwaizumi Hajime! We're first-years at Kitagawa Daiichi!"

"Kitagawa Daiichi, huh? I went there back when I was in junior high."

"That last set was really cool! You must be some kind of prodigy!" Oikawa exclaimed.

"Hey, brat! Kashi's no prodigy! He worked hard to get where he is now!" Tenma said with an irked expression.

"Calm yourself, Ten." Takashi sighed out. "But what he said was correct. I'm not some genius. What I did out there was instinct. There's a big difference."

Oikawa widened his eyes in amazement. "Can you teach me all you know?! I'm a setter as well! I would love to learn from you!" He exclaimed.

"Huh? You're asking to be my student?" Takashi questioned as Oikawa nodded. "All right, then. I, Kageyama Takashi, will teach you all there is to know about setting, Oikawa. Who knows. You might even surpass me one day."

"Today might be the day to grasp the chance to let your talent bloom." Oikawa spoke up, getting Watari and Yahaba's attention. "Maybe tomorrow, the day after, or next year... Maybe even when you're thirty. I'm not sure if physique has anything to do with it, but if you think it'll never come, it probably never will."

"Oikawa-san's seem differently lately, doesn't he?" Yahaba questioned as he didn't receive a response.

"If something like that comes up front again, I'll get it." Iwaizumi told his teammates. "I'll leave the rest to you."

"Right!" Watari agreed.

"Don't let your guard down. They might drop it over here again." Hanamaki stated with Kyotani nodding.

"Keep your eye on the ball." Matsukawa told Kindaichi.

"Right!"

"Make sure you aim for the target!" Asahi informed.

"I know. If I half-ass it, it'll get hit immediately." Sugawara said.

"Make sure you at least touch it when you block." Tanaka informed.

"Yeah!"

TWEEEET!

"Let's get this one!" Daichi exclaimed.

"Yeah!"

Sugawara hits the ball as Iwaizumi rushed forward to save it. Oikawa tossed to Kyotani as Tanaka received it with his face.

"Finish it now!"

Sugawara and Tobio switched places as everyone rushed forward. Sugawara tossed to Hinata as he scored a point.

"It's off!"

"We're counting on you, Oikawa!"

Oikawa raced towards the ball as Takashi spotted Oikawa pointing to Iwaizumi.

Kobayashi gasped as he noticed Oikawa switching to his fingertips.

"Is he—?"

"He's doing Kageyama-san's toss!" Uyeda exclaimed.

"That sly bastard!" Nagata shouted in anger.

Oikawa turned his body around as he sent the toss to Iwaizumi, crashing into some chairs in the process before rushing forward.

Iwaizumi spiked the ball as Tobio was late on blocking him. Mizoguchi cheered. However, his celebration was short as Tanaka received the ball.

"Get the last!" Tanaka shouted.

"Connect!"

"Chance ball!"

"Like hell..." Asahi began as he raced towards the ball before turning around. "...You'll get that chance!"

Asahi spiked the ball from the back as Watari saved it, but it hit the net. Kyotani covered for him as he sent the ball back into the air.

"Hit it, Kageyama!" Daichi shouted.

Tobio hits the ball as it rebounds off of Sugawara. Hinata then backed up a bit. "Give it to me!" He exclaimed, rushing forward. Tobio and Hinata did their quick as Tobio placed his hands in the air.

Hinata jumped up as Iwaizumi, Kindaichi, and Kyotani jumped up to block him. Tobio tosses the ball to Hinata as he spiked it. The ball rebounded off of Oikawa's arm.

BAM!

The ball had touched the court.

It was silent for a moment as Hinata clenched his fist.

TWEEEET!

"All..."

"...right!"

Karasuno cheered in victory as Aoba Johsai either sat on the court in defeat or looked at the ball.

Karasuno had defeated Aoba Johsai.

Oikawa walked up to Tobio, making him turn around as they both looked at each other.

A/N: Karasuno has gotten their revenge! And yes, I decided to add how Oikawa and Takashi met each other, because why not. And I wanted Oikawa to use his toss in this match, and I figured that was the best way to put it.
