CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN - WIPING OUT

TAKASHI CROSSED HIS ARMS AS he looked down at the court as both teams were practicing before the official game started.

Oikawa looked up towards the stands to see Takashi. "Taka-chan, this is the day where I'll surpass you!" He thinks to himself before a ball rolled over, stopping his train of thought.

Takashi looked over and let out a long sigh when he saw his younger brother and Oikawa fighting over the ball.

"Well, well... If it isn't Tobio-chan, who was miserably defeated last time." Oikawa stated.

"We've come to win this time." Tobio stated.

"I depressed the hell out of you last time. All that's left is that bastard, Ushiwaka. I'm gonna have you get out of the way again, Tobio!" Oikawa exclaimed as he released the ball, making Tobio fall backwards as Oikawa laughed.

"Take that!"

Oikawa laughed again. "Is he really a third-year?" Hanamaki questioned.

Takashi ran a hand down his face. "I feel super embarrassed right now..." He mumbled as Uyeda laughed hysterically next to him before stopping when something caught his attention.

"Kageyama-san?"

"What is it, Uyeda?"

"Was #16 on Seijoh's team before?" Uyeda asked as Takashi glanced over to see someone he didn't recognize on Aoba Johsai's team that wasn't on the team during the Inter-High.

"Now that you mention it, he wasn't. His stats are ridiculously high, too..." Takashi responded. "I suddenly have a really bad feeling..."

"Your gut instinct is often correct, Kags." Nagata commented. "I wonder what this new player is like, and what exactly does it mean for Karasuno?"

Takashi watched as both Daichi and Oikawa shook hands with one another.

TWEEEEEET!

"Line up!"

Both teams lined up and stared at one another. Takashi noticed that his brother was staring at Oikawa who stared back.

TWEEEET!

"Let's play!"

"Man, it's hard to believe that this is the semi-finals..." Uyeda commented.

"All they have to do is beat two powerhouse schools and they'll represent Miyagi at nationals." Kobayashi added on. "Ah! That really takes me back!"

"First, they have to conquer this fight. I believe in all of them." Takashi said.

The game soon began as Oikawa was up to serve as he bounced the ball a few times.

"Oikawa-san, nice serve!"

"It seems Oikawa is serving first." Nagata commented.

"Eh? Is he really that good, Nagata-san?" Uyeda asked.

"Remember how Kags used to serve back in high school?"

"Of course. He deflated a ball one time at practice." Uyeda replied as his comment left Takashi irked, remembering how Ukai Sr lectured him about it.

"Think that, but with way less power."

"Huh?!"

"Anyway, if Seijoh's able to build momentum with this serve, we're going to be in trouble, but... that's very likely." Nagata finished.

Takashi watched as Oikawa threw the volleyball up, it went over the net as he smacked it, but Daichi was quick on his feet as he dived to the side to connect the ball, Takashi saw how the ball was going back over the net, and due to Hinata's height, Takashi knew he wouldn't be able to save it.

Both Hinata and Kindaichi jump up as Kindaichi knocked the ball back over to Karasuno's side. Tobio was quick to react as he crouched down and saved the ball.

"Nice, Kageyama!" Daichi praised.

Takashi smirked when he sees Nishinoya jumping up and over the back line to set. Asahi came from the back and slammed the volleyball down, making the first point go to Karasuno.

"All right!"

"Huh? When did he learn that?" Nagata asked.

"It's all thanks to Ren." Takashi replied. "Nagata, Kobayashi, Uyeda! I give you... the all-new Karasuno!"

"Yahoo! I'm fired up! If Seijoh goes all-out, we just have to answer back with the same energy!" Kobayashi exclaimed.

Tobio was up to serve next as he spun the ball around in his palm.

"Kageyama, nice serve!" Nishinoya encouraged.

"One more!" Sugawara added from the sides.

The whistle blew and Tobio did his jump serve. The ball went over the net. However, it was out of bounds, making Tobio annoyed.

"Shake it off, shake it off!" Daichi told him.

"So close! We'll get it next time!" Tanaka reassured.

Soon Iwaizumi was serving as he bounced the ball a few times.

"Iwaizumi-san, nice serve!"

"Bring it!" Asahi challenged as Iwaizumi did a jump serve as he hits the ball. Asahi dived down and managed to receive it.

"Sorry, Kageyama!"

Takashi watched as Tobio and Kunimi jump up to see who would hit it first. Tobio managed to do a one hand toss as Tanaka ran up and jumped, swinging his arm as he smacked the volleyball.

He gets the point for Karasuno as Tanaka cheered for his point.

Takashi chuckled a bit when he heard Saeko cheer for Tanaka and him getting embarrassed.

"All right!"

Karasuno had gotten another point, as they continued on with the game. Tsukishima ran forward as Tobio sets to him, Tsukishima spiked it down but Matsukawa ended up saving it.

"Left!" Iwaizumi called out as Tsukishima stayed in his position.

Oikawa ends up tossing the ball to Hanamaki and Tsukishima blocks the spike, getting the point for Karasuno.

"All right!" Karasuno cheered.

Takashi glanced over at the score.

"I-It seems they're starting off neck-and-neck." Uyeda stuttered as he was shivering.

"Yeah, but..." Nagata began as he saw Hinata being subbed in. "I'd love to see Hinata get a quick over right about now."

"Why's that, senpai?" Kobayashi asked.

"At the end of their last match with Seijoh, Hinata's quick had perfect timing, but it still got completely shut down." Nagata explained.

"It's something that even I would never forget." Takashi added. "And I'm sure it's the same with Tobio and Hinata."

Tsukishima hits the ball as Aoba Johsai's libero saves it, Oikawa tossed the ball to Iwaizumi who jumps up and spikes it down. Hinata and Tobio jump up to block, but the ball goes past them, luckily Daichi raced in and saved the ball on time.

"Daichi-san, nice!"

Takashi watched Hinata back up before running forward as he gets ready to toss, the ball went up as Tobio who sets it up and Hinata jumps up and hits it down. However, just like the last time they went against Aoba Johsai, it got blocked.

Unlike last time, Tsukishima raced over and crouched down, receiving the ball.

"It's coming back! Get back, get back!" Iwaizumi shouted.

"Cover! Cover!"

Takashi watched Oikawa dive down and save the ball, sending it back up. "Oikawa-san, nice!" Kindaichi shouted out. Takashi flinched when he saw Tobio kick Hinata in the butt.

"Calm... do... be... moron!"

Iwaizumi spiked the ball down. Tobio and Hinata jumped up to block as Hinata got a one touch in.

"Nice one touch!"

"One more! One more!"

"Got it!" Asahi reassured as he received the ball back up. Hinata rushed in with speed, as Takashi watched him.

"Go, Hinata! And fly high!"

Takashi smirked when Tobio tosses the ball in hastily to Hinata who swung his arm back and slammed the ball down. The volleyball bounced off of the libero's extended arm and out of the court, making Karasuno get the point.

Hinata and Tobio high five happily with the rest of their teammates cheering.

"That's it, Hinata!"

Takashi smiled as Hinata turned to Tobio. "You kicked me for real, you jerk!" He hissed.

"I woke you up, moron!" Tobio replied back.

"What'd you say?" Hinata said as Asahi came in and held Hinata by the shirt.

"Now, now..." Asahi spoke up.

Takashi took a glance over to the score.

"They've picked themselves back up." Oikawa commented. "It seems perhaps Tobio-chan went to visit Taka-chan and his fiancé."

"Those two getting more confident is hardly a good thing." Iwaizumi reminded him.

"I know. Let's take our time and form a strategy."Oikawa informed.

"Yeah!"

They soon continue on with the game, as Oikawa served and hits the ball to Karasuno's side. Daichi dived down and sent the ball back up.

"Daichi-san, nice receive!" Tanaka shouted.

Hinata quickly rushed over as him and Tobio do their quick attack once more, getting a point. "All right!" The two of them cheered. Tobio was up to serve next.

"Kageyama, nice serve!"

Aoba Johsai's libero saves it, as Hanamaki tosses the ball up and over to Kunimi, Tanaka and Hinata jump up to block him, but he got passed and got a point, as Tobio was slow on receiving the ball.

"Nice kill." Hanamaki said lazily.

"Nice toss." Kunimi replied back in a deadpan tone.

Soon it was Iwaizumi's turn to serve the ball, he hits the ball, however Takashi was relieved when the ball hits the net and Karasuno got a point. Kunimi had widened his eyes and jumped when the ball almost collided with his head.

"All right!"

"Sorry!"

The game continued, with both teams getting points. Takashi sighed and looked over at the score.

"And it's still only the first set... How troublesome." Takashi thinks to himself. He turned back and saw how Matsukawa was whispering something to his teammates, making him narrow his eyes. "What are they planning?"

"Bring it!"

Kindaichi served the ball as Tanaka easily got in front and saved the ball. "Got it!" He exclaimed as he sent the ball back up.

"Nice receive." Tobio shouted, getting under the ball, Hinata charged in for a quick attack, however Takashi noticed Matsukawa was tailing him, making him taken aback.

"They're adding a block?"

Takashi tensed as he stared at Matsukawa, as he jumped up to block him, but he was too late as the ball goes past him and hits the court. "All right!" Aoba Johsai cheered as Takashi let out a scoff.

"There's even more pressure than the last time we played them. Then again, this match has everything on the line. Only one team can move on to the finals." Takashi thought as he looked at Hinata who was looking at Matsukawa.

"Shake it off, Shoyo!" Nishinoya reassured the first-year. "That was a close one!"

Takashi sighed and observed Aoba Johsai. "They already thought of a way to counter Hinata's broads." Takashi noted.

"Right!" Hinata replied back.

The game continued on for a bit, as Takashi looked over to the scoreboard.

"They're slowly catching up."

Takashi watched as Kindaichi was going to spike the ball, Tobio jumped up alongside Hinata as they both blocked the hit, getting a point. "All right!" They both cheered.

"He's learned from his past mistake." Takashi commented. "This is exactly what I was telling them."

The ball was served once more, going over the net. Oikawa tosses the ball to Kindaichi once more and Kindaichi smacked it down and got a point for Aoba Johsai. Karasuno was at 23 with Aoba Johsai now at 22.

Takashi tensed up when he saw that Oikawa was the one serving. Takashi looked at the calm and intense gaze he had. Takashi also took noticed at how Iwaizumi covered the back of his head.

"Just in case, watch the back of your head." He suggested as Kindaichi jumped at his comment as Oikawa did his jump serve.

"Bring it!" Nishinoya and Daichi shouted in unison. The moment Oikawa's hand touched the ball, in a flash, the volleyball was already on Karasuno's side of the court.

Everyone was silent, as Takashi felt his whole body freeze.

Everyone waited for the referee to see if the point was Karasuno's or not. The referee holds the red flag up and blew his whistle, making Takashi let out a breath of relief as the ball was out.

"Seriously though, how was anyone supposed to receive that? I'm not even sure I could and that's saying something." Kobayashi mumbled as he sweats.

"That's Kags' successor for you." Nagata said.

"And Nagata-san said he had less power. That was an exact copy of Kageyama-san. Minus the ball deflating." Uyeda commented.

"Lucky, lucky! Let's get another one!" Daichi informed his team.

"Was it a fluke? Or did he hit it that hard even though it was risky?" Nagata wondered.

"That was an insane serve! I wanna try and get it!" Nishinoya beamed as Hinata was shaking like a leaf. Takashi distracted himself as he looked at the score.

"Thank god we're at match point." Takashi thought.

Tobio was serving next, as he had a determined look. He did his jump serve and the ball got saved as Oikawa sets the ball up and over to Iwaizumi who smacks it down, as Daichi tried to block him, but it flies past him and Aoba Johsai gets a point.

"Stay calm! Just one more! We're gonna get this one!" Daichi reassured.

"Right!" His team replied back.

TWEEEET!

Takashi blinked as he saw that Aoba Johsai was switching players.

"Seijoh's changing members so far into the game?" Uyeda questioned.

"Not only that, it's their new player." Kobayashi informed as they saw Number 16 subbing in for Kunimi.

Everyone soon got into their position as Iwaizumi was serving the ball. Iwaizumi hits the ball and Daichi saves it. "Sorry, it's short!" Daichi announced as Tobio runs over and sets the ball up.

"Tanaka-san!" Tobio called out to him as Tanaka runs forward with intention to hit the ball.

Tanaka ran up and jumped up and slammed the ball, however the blockers managed to get a one touch in. Oikawa gets ready to toss the ball, as Takashi figured he would be setting it to Kindaichi, but to his surprise, Number 16 had charged in with such speed and aggression that he pushed past Kindaichi who fell to the ground and slammed down the volleyball with such power.

No one moved a muscle as even Takashi shivered at the powerful spike.

Takashi widened his eyes before breathing out the words.

"What the actual hell?"
