โ Karasuno... Back in my high school days, we were a powerhouse. Now, we have a chance to gain that title again. With this team, they've risen from the ashes like crows. โž

Takashi Kageyama

Takashi Kageyama (Japanese: ๅฝฑๅฑฑ ้š† Kageyama Takashi), also known as the Emperor, is an alumnus of Karasuno High and was the starting setter of the boys' volleyball club. He's married to Tenma Udai changing his name to Takashi Udai (Japanese: ๅฎ‡ๅ†…้š† Udai Takashi). Currently, he's the captain and starting setter for Japan's National Team. As of 2021, he's retired from volleyball due to injury.

He is the older brother of Tobio Kageyama.

APPEARANCE:
Takashi has long black hair and dark blue eyes. He's 193 cm (6' 4"), which is an above average height for a volleyball player.

While on court, Takashi wears a standard red and black Japan uniform emblazoned with the number one and the Japan flag. He also wears white athletic shoes.

PERSONALITY:
Unlike his younger brother, Takashi is very outgoing and easy to get along with. Though he can get mad if someone ever messes with Tobio. He also rarely yells at people (unless they make him mad) and he hates getting into fights.

BACKGROUND:
Takashi is an alumnus of Karasuno High School and was the starting setter for the volleyball team. Where he also eventually met Tenma, who he didn't get along with at first. Though when Tenma managed to spike his signature toss, it made him fall in love with him and they called a truce and became friends and started dating at the end of their first-year.

Takashi was nicknamed the Emperor due to his signature toss and having the ability to bring out the best in his spikers. He taught Oikawa how to serve and set as well as teaching him the ability to bring out the best in his own spikers.

STATISTICS:

Serve: 10/10.
Serve Reception: 8/10.
Dig: 8/10.
Setting: 10/10.
Spike: 9/10.
Block: 8/10.

Takashi was known as "The Emperor" back in his high school days and even currently due to his signature toss. He has the ability to bring out the best in his spikers.

Jumping Reach: 350 cm.

SKILLS:
โ€ข Emperor Toss: This toss is what Takashi was famous for back when he went to Karasuno and now, and was known as the only toss that Tenma could spike. Back when he was in junior high, he wanted to create a toss that was impossible to spike unless the spiker was good. He also wanted to make it fast enough to where it's invisible and can't be received. Instead of using his palms, he uses his fingertips. He starts off with a normal toss the first time, letting it go in the air. When it goes towards his hands again, he switches to his fingertips and toss the ball backwards to his spiker.

โ€ข Jump Serve: Takashi has a powerful jump serve that is said to injure a player if it's not received correctly.

โ€ข Dump Set: Takashi can easily perform a setter dump. Sometimes even confusing his opponents, making it seem like he's going to toss to someone but instead performs a dump.

โ€ข Natural Talent as a Setter: Takashi's tosses are easy to hit. He can draw out the maximum potential of a team and draws out 100% potential of his spikers.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Tenma Udai: Back in high school, Takashi and Tenma hated each other at first mostly throughout their first-year. But when Tenma was able to spike Takashi's Emperor toss, he ended up falling in love with him and called a truce. They became friends and started dating towards the end of their first-year. Eventually, they end up getting married.

Akiteru Tsukishima & Saeko Tanaka: Akiteru and Saeko were Takashi's best friends throughout high school, and often teased him for being in love with Tenma since they never got along in the beginning. Akiteru had once liked Takashi more than a friend throughout high school. When Takashi told him that even if he did confess his feelings back then, he still would've chosen to be with Tenma. Akiteru decides to just let Takashi be happy.

Tลru Oikawa: Oikawa was Takashi's former student. Takashi was the one who taught Oikawa how to serve and set, as well as teaching him how to bring out the best in his spikers. He eventually teaches him how to do his Emperor toss. Despite being Tobio's older brother, Oikawa respects Takashi as a setter and wishes to surpass him.

Ren Matsuda: Matsuda is Takashi's teammate on Japan's National Team as well as his best friend. Everyone was surprised about their friendship due to Matsuda being an alumnus of Nekoma and Takashi being an alumnus of Karasuno. Though, they put that aside and continue to be friends.

Kenta Miura: Miura is one of Takashi's teammates. He's Japan's ace and is the second person to master Takashi's toss. Takashi didn't really like him at first due to the fact that he would jokingly flirt with him.

FAMILY:

Kazuyo Kageyama: Kazuyo was Takashi's grandfather who introduced him to volleyball as well as Tobio. Takashi often practiced volleyball with him and Tobio.

Miwa Kageyama: Miwa is Takashi's older sister who would often practice volleyball with him and Tobio.

Tobio Kageyama: Tobio is Takashi's younger brother. At first, Tobio resented him due to the fact that he taught Oikawa and not him. But eventually they begin to repair their relationship. Tobio also wishes to surpass his famous brother.

QUOTES:

โ Don't underestimate Karasuno, Miura. They will go to Nationals again. They have Tobio and Hinata after all. You remember how powerful Tenma and I were together. They're the same way. Perhaps even better. โž

โ€” To Miura, about Hinata and Tobio.

โ Karasuno... Back in my high school days, we were a powerhouse. Now, we have a chance to gain that title again. With this team, they've risen from the ashes like crows. โž

โ€” About Karasuno, after their win against Shiratoriawa.

โ Man, seeing Tobio serve like that. It really takes me back to when we were standing on that same court. โž

โ€” To Nagata, during the Karasuno vs Inarizaki match.

โ It took me awhile to teach Tobio that toss. It was always known as Karasuno's most powerful weapon back then, which is why I taught it to Tobio. To see Inarizaki try to use it and fail is quite insulting. โž

โ€” To Miura, after the Miya twins failed to do his famous toss.

โ It's like watching two versions of Tenma in battle. I'm glad no other team had someone like him back then. I'm certain we would've been screwed. โž

โ€” About Hoshiumi.

TRIVIA:

โ€ข Favorite Food: Katsudon.

โ€ข Current Concern: None.

โ€ข Takashi had and still has anxiety. During high school, he would sometimes have anxiety attacks during games.

โ€ข His star sign is Gemini.

โ€ข When he was in junior high, Takashi wanted to create a toss that was hard to spike and hard to receive. Therefore, he made the Emperor toss.

โ€ข Takashi had attended Kitagawa Daiichi.

โ€ข He got scouted on Japan's National Team right after he graduated from high school.

โ€ข He was hesitant to do the Emperor toss for Miura, but soon decided it was time for the toss to get a new ace.

โ€ข Nomenclature:

โ€ข Takashi (้š†) โ€” Praiseworthy

โ€ข Kageyama (ๅฝฑๅฑฑ) โ€” Shadow Mountain

โ€ข Udai (ๅฎ‡ๅ†…) โ€” Within the cosmo/sky

โ Everyone thinks that liberos are only there to receive, and yes, that is our job. To keep the ball in the game. But with proper training, we can do so much more. โž

Ren Matsuda

Ren Matsuda (Japanese: ๆพ็”ฐ ใใ‚Œใ„ Matsuda Ren), is an alumnus of Nekoma High and was the libero of the boys' volleyball club. Currently, he's the vice captain and libero for Japan's National Team. As of 2021, he's retired from volleyball.

He is the older brother of Akira Matsuda.

APPEARANCE:
Matsuda has long black hair and gray eyes. He's mostly athletic around his arms and legs. He is 177 cm (5' 10").

While on court, Matsuda wears a standard black and white Japan uniform emblazoned with the number two and the Japan flag. He also wears white athletic shoes with dark blue accents.

PERSONALITY:
Matsuda has a calm and relaxing personality. He believes in "good vibes only". Though, he can easily get irritated when it comes to certain people (Like Miura or Lev).

BACKGROUND:
Matsuda is an alumnus of Nekoma High School and was the libero for the volleyball team. Though it is said that he was a setter for his first-year in high school since Nekoma didn't have one, which explains how he can easily set from the back row despite being a libero.

STATISTICS:

Power: 2/5.
Jumping: 4/5.
Stamina: 5/5.
Game Sense: 5/5.
Technique: 5/5.
Speed: 4/5.

Matsuda's skills in defense are extremely strong. He has super fast reflexes and tries to not let the ball touch the court.

Fingertip Height: 210 cm.
Jumping Reach: 305 cm (spike) / 205 cm (block).

SKILLS:
โ€ข Libero Toss: Matsuda distinguishes himself from other liberos with his participation in the offense. He is capable of jumping behind the attack line and performing a libero toss either to Miura or his other teammates. This is especially helpful under the circumstances where Takashi or Uchida are forced to make the first touch while setting.

โ€ข Overhand Receives: Matsuda is exceptionally good at receiving jump floaters.

โ€ข Strategist: Matsuda is good at pinpointing where a spike would go and how he could receive it, making his receive clean and accurate.

โ€ข Digs/Receives: Matsuda is good at not allowing the ball to touch the ground and he's quick on his feet.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Takashi Kageyama: Takashi is Matsuda's teammate on Japan's National Team as well as his best friend. Everyone was surprised about their friendship due to Matsuda being an alumnus of Nekoma and Takashi being an alumnus of Karasuno. Though, they put that aside and continue to be friends. They have a normal captain/vice captain relationship.

Kenta Miura: Miura is one of Matsuda's teammates. He usually always hits him whenever Miura irritates him. Despite their weird friendship, Matsuda respects Miura and sees him as an amazing ace.

Nekoma High: Matsuda is shown to have a good relationship with his high school team. Everyone on the team respects him as their senpai and he always tries his best to give them advice on what they need to work on.

FAMILY:

Akira Matsuda: Akira is Ren's younger sister who is a second-year at Nekoma. She looks up to her brother as a role model and is his biggest supporter. She eventually becomes Nekoma's manager since they were in need of one.

QUOTES:

โ Everyone thinks that liberos are only there to receive, and yes, that is our job. To keep the ball in the game. But with proper training, we can do so much more. โž

โ€” To Nishinoya.

โ They're trying to overwhelm Yuu. As a libero myself, I've seen this tactic used many times against me. If Karasuno's defense breaks, they'll break. โž

โ€” To Kuroo, during the Karasuno vs Inarizaki match.

โ Of course he'll turn this around. Did you forget who he's related to? โž

โ€” About Tobio, during the Karasuno vs Inarizaki match.

โ The Miya twins have copied every quick that Karasuno has done. The only toss that they can't copy is the Emperor toss, because if you want to perfect it, Takashi himself has to teach you. It's not a toss you can copy just like that. โž

โ€” To Kuroo, after the Miya twins try to do Takashi's toss.

โ What you did back there, I can never forgive you for. Due to your stupidity, you could've seriously injured one of your teammates. Takashi is well respected in the volleyball community. If I see you try to tarnish everything he's worked for again, I'll kick your ass. โž

โ€” To Atsumu, after Inarizaki's lost.

โ That guy is a literal demon. I won't be surprised if he joins Japan's National Team when he graduates high school and takes Miura's spot as ace. But Hinata's abilities aren't anything to look down on either. โž

โ€” About Hoshiumi and Hinata.

โ€” To Takashi about Shiratorizawa.

โ That rush you feel when you jump up into the air and spike the toss that the setter gives. The feeling of having everyone's support behind you. The feeling of holding the team together. Being the team's emotional support. That's what being an ace means. โž

โ€” To himself.

โ Now that was just an insult to you. I never imagined seeing your toss be disrespected like that, Taka-chan. โž

โ€” To Takashi after the Miya twins failed to do Takashi's famous toss.
