"Sweetheart, do you want some fruit with that?" Amelia asked sweetly, handing Aly the syrup bottle.

Aly grinned.

"Yes!"

She'd just gotten back from Lucas' and she was bursting with joy.

I grazed over the fact she went to his because he made her happy.

And now, with everything going on, that was all Aly needed.

I yawned loudly and sat down with my apple juice and cereal.

"Mum, can Alec get some pancakes too?" Aly asked thickly, mouth full of pancake.

Amelia's smile faltered.

"Of course, darling! What would you like on your pancakes, Alec?"

Amelia glared at me as she gave me pancakes from her own plate.

"Same as Alys'." I answered smugly.

Her smile got even more strained as she started cutting fruit and biscuits.

Aly smiled as she handed me the syrup.

I don't even like fruit on pancakes, this was just to make a point.

Amelia put the fruit and biscuits on my breakfast.

"There you go sweetie." She snapped.

I looked her in the eyes as I ate my breakfast.

Aly picked up her school bag.

"We need to go soon!" Aly yelled, throwing my bag to me.

"Ah, yes, I'll be bringing you to school today."

Aly stared at her.

"Really?" She said, her voice full of hope.

Amelia nodded, smiling broadly.

I watched the exchange with disgust.

Sure, I wanted Aly to be happy, but not if it was with this fake-ass woman.

I picked up my coat and jacket and opened the door.

I started on my usual walk to school, but this time Aly wasn't with me.

The harrassment was pretty civil if Aly was with me as she'd done nothing wrong.

Gold was the only one willing to throw punches in her way due to a few offhanded comments.

Gold.

She'd changed so much...

One day being fangirling over me and Funneh, the other screaming abuse at me.

It was quite sad, she was a fantastic friend.

Funneh, was a different story.

She revealed herself to be a toxic little liar.

I never wanted to be near her again.

At least I still had Ky and Evelyn.

As expected, Gold jumped out from behind a fence.

"Hey, Lec." She said casually.

I did a double take.

She was never this nice.

"I heard you mother came back?"

I held my breath, I knew where this was going.

"For Aly, presumably? Even though I'd never want a tramp like her for a daughter, I can understand your mother's desperation for a better child than you." She said sweetly.

My blood boiled.

"Don't you fvcking dare say that about her." I said, my voice cold.

She pouted.

"Why don't you like the truth? Does it hurt you? Like it did with your reputation now? One day the most popular person in school, the other, a broken arm and no friends-"

"That's quite enough, Gold." Said Evelyn.

Evelyn rolled up from a black limo, rolling her window down and taking her sun glasses off to glare at her.

Gold looked at the chauffeur who was looking curiously at her.

She turned abruptly around and ran.

Evelyn chuckled, "not too brave is she?"

Kyran shook his head.

"Get in loser, we're going to school." He grinned.

"Enough, you've been quoting 'Mean Girls' the whole week." I huffed, climbing in and grabbing a packet of gummies from the sweet cupboard.

He just grinned wider. "Can you blame me? It's a classic."

Evelyn shook her head at him mockingly and slipped her sunglasses back on.

I grabbed the TV remote.

"Which movie?" I inquired, picking all the red gummies out of the packet and putting them in a bowl.

"Hm... We'll hot be there for a while so I say 'Brave' or 'Big Hero 6'." She suggested, pinching some of my red gummies.

"Anime?" Kyran said predictably.

"Which one?" I asked, defending my red gummies and eating them.

"MHA? Or Assassination Classroom?" He said hopefully.

"Hell no! No spoilers! You've watched them so much that on movie nights you always spoil them!" I protested.

Kyran opened his mouth to fire back a spoiler and Evelyn shoved a biscuit in his mouth.

She grabbed the remote and turned on 'Spiderman Into the Spiderverse'.

My short attention span was diverted immediately.

"Hey Alec, what was that about your mum?" She asked quietly.

"Oh... Well she came back and is all over Aly now. She said she wants to take Aly away to a different country." I tried to answer nonchalantly but my voice cracked and I looked away.

Her hand extended to mine.

"What a b!tch." Kyran frowned. "Leaving you for a year and returning to whisk Aly off."

"Sounds strange to me." Kyran shrugged.

"Strange?" Evelyn and I echoed.

"Mm, I mean moving to a different country for no reason with your child is bound to be sketchy. And leaving Alec here, even more sketchy." He explained, popping some sour apple strings into his mouth.

Evelyn and I sat in silence, taking in his words.

Strange...
