In the year 854, Julian had grown taller and is slouched over due to his spinal cord injury. He also ties his long hair up in a man-bun. While in Marley, he wore the black Scout Regiment uniform as well as the same green hooded cloak over it.

PERSONALITY:
Julian has a blunt personality and doesn't sugarcoat his words. He was known to be a cocky jerk in his cadet days. That is until Levi ended up putting him in his place. He was also trained by Levi while he was a cadet. Now, he is more calm and not much of a jerk. He also takes the role of a leader and a scout in general seriously due to him being the only one in his graduating class to join the Survey Corps.

Having Levi mentoring him, Julian is very skilled when using the vertical maneuvering equipment, coming in close second with Levi's skills.

Julian is in charge of the best strategic team in the Survey Corps. He can easily come up with a plan that makes his fellow squad members place their trust in him and not question his motives.

• Jean Kirstein - Jean is Julian's younger brother who he often describes as a "cocky little shit" as Jean reminds Julian of himself back when he was a trainee. Despite that, Julian cares a lot for his brother and wants him safe. He wishes that Jean doesn't have to see what he constantly sees almost everyday but he realizes it can't be helped. When Julian ends up sacrificing himself during the Rumbling so the others could escape, he hugs Jean and tells him that he's proud of him.

• Levi Ackerman - Back in his cadet days, Levi had mentored Julian, teaching him his skills. Julian greatly respects Levi and admires his strength. Levi quickly became one of Julian's best friends throughout the years, always making a promise that he will come back alive after every expedition. After getting injured by Kenny, they both realize their feelings for one another.

• Marcus Bolt - Marcus was Julian's best friend back in his cadet days. They were close since they had trained alongside one another. However, when Julian made his claim that he would join the Survey Corps after their graduation, they stopped being friends since Marcus had gone to the Military Police and no longer wished to speak to him. They reunite during Eren's trial and Julian comforted him after giving the news about Marco's death. He said that they shouldn't be friends anymore and focus on their ranks in their Regiments.

• Maya Yamatazi - Maya was someone who Julian was closed to in his cadet days. The two weren't as close as Julian was with Marcus, but Julian was still good friends with her, even wishing her luck in the Garrison. The two reunite when Julian was on his way to tell Marcus the news about his brother.

• Lyon Rider - Lyon is Julian's second-in-command. The two of them are close friends and Julian always trusts him due to the fact that he was the first one on his squad.

• Erwin Smith - Julian holds great respect for Erwin, not just as a commander but as a friend too. He is grateful that Erwin trusts him with making plans.

• Eren Yeager - Having saved the boy from Garrison soldiers when he was young, Julian admired Eren's determination to join the Survey Corps. However, upon seeing his actual face after the war with Marley, he realized that Eren wasn't the same ten year old boy that he saved all those years ago.

• Armin Arlert - Both Julian and Armin hold mutual respect for one another due to them both being tacticians. Armin admires Julian's confidence in his intelligence and Julian always tries to reassure Armin to not be insecure when it comes to trying to figure things out.

Lyon is a very outgoing person. He tries his best to make being in the Survery Corps a little less shitty and tries to make every scout laugh at his jokes. He claims he does it so that his comrades can take their mind off of the fallen.

• Levi Ackerman - Lyon admires Levi's strength and ability to not show his emotions. He often pairs him up with Julian, claiming that they would be a great couple.

• Zachary Cromwell - Lyon is close friends with Zachary and respects him since he's the oldest member in the squad. When Zach ends up being turned into a Pure Titan due to Zeke's spinal fluid, he thinks back to all the times Zach acted like a father figure to the squad.

Like Julian, Zachary takes his role as a scout seriously and hates it when people think the Survery Corps are a joke. Other than that, he's a caring person and tries his best to make the new cadets feel welcomed. He also acts like a father figure to his squad due to being the oldest.

When she ends up dying due to being caught in the Colossal Titan's transformation, Julian blames himself on losing another person to him when he could've done something.

• Mikasa Ackerman - Melody admires Mikasa's courage and bravery as well as determination to protect the people she cares about. She is one of the few people that she talks to within Levi's second squad and forms some sort of friendship with her.

• Ida Claridge - Melody isn't really close to Ida despite her being the only other girl in her squad. She claims that Ida's bitchy personality doesn't clash well with her quiet personality. Though, when Ida falls victim to the Female Titan, Melody mourns her and wish that she got to know her better.

• Julian Kirstein - Ida has high respect for Julian and greatly admires him and his strength. It is revealed that Ida even had romantic feelings for him. When she dies at the hands of the Female Titan, it is shown that Julian blamed himself for her death.

• Petra Ral - Ida was very close friends with Petra due to the fact that they both had people that they respected and admired. She treated Petra as an older sister and tried to avenge her against the Female Titan which resulted in her death.

• Melody Stark - Ida and Melody never spoke to one another despite being in the same squad since they were polar opposites.

Squad Julian is an elite squad, just under Squad Levi, in the Survey Corps that was hand-picked by Julian Kirstein. Marcus comes off as friendly and very outgoing. He joined the military when Julian did. Marcus ended up joining the Military Police after he graduated. However, he didn't support Julian's decision in him joining the Survey Corps.

RELATIONSHIPS:
• Marco Bolt - Marcus was rather close with his younger brother, and was proud of all that he had accomplished. He was proud that Marco was able to make in in the top ten and couldn't wait to work with him in the Military Police. However, after hearing about his death in the Battle for Trost, he sobs and mourns his brother.

• Julian Kirstein - Julian was Marcus's best friend back in his cadet days. They were close since they had trained alongside one another. However, when Julian made his claim that he would join the Survey Corps after their graduation, they stopped being friends since Marcus had gone to the Military Police and no longer wished to speak to him.
