❛ BONFIRE & BOYS ! ❜

───────────────────────────────

𝓐urora loved everything about summer. It was always her favorite time of the year. The way flowers blossomed, the natural glow the sun gave her skin, and most of all she loved the way summer felt. It was the only time of the year that she was stress free. All her problems would be pushed aside until August. Everyday was fun and eventful. She always had something she wanted to do. Summer had a different atmosphere. It's like everyone was happier, their smiles were brighter. She would cherish a certain summer forever, though.

The summer that Aurora and Jeremiah thought it would be fun to just be rebellious teenagers━━was the summer their dynamic changed forever. This all started with a drunken kiss, a kiss that could have been super meaningless and innocent━━but turned out to be so much more than what they were aiming for. The night that they lost their innocence was the night they found themselves looking back at every time their eyes met. The two teenagers swore themselves to secrecy.

It's not like they were ashamed. Just that the whole situation was a mistake they both made. That's what they would tell themselves to hide that fact that they actually felt something during those times. Plus, mistakes don't keep happening. People learn from them, yet it happens so often that it became normal to them. It was almost like they enjoyed it, right? If you were to ask any of them they would brush it off and say that they're just teenagers having fun. But even an outsider could feel the tension between them from just a quick glance. It's surprising that they have successfully been able to hide it from their families for as long as they have.

Aurora casually played in Jeremiah's hair while he searched through a pile of clothes sat on his bed, trying to decide on what he would be wearing for the night. They had just finished dinner not too long ago. The boys were going out to a bonfire━━leaving Belly and Rory at the beach house to watch movies with their moms. It was the same every summer, and they were honestly getting tired of the worn out routine. They weren't kids anymore. It was unfair that no one could understand that.

"Rory, could you please stop? You're ruining my hair for the night." Jeremiah swatted her hands away, deciding on something plain to wear. He was never the type to dress up when it came to parties. He could pull both genders without trying, anyways.

"I just want to know why me and Bells never get invited to these things." Aurora wrapped her arms around his shoulders, hearing him let out a sigh.

"We used to invite you, but when you get drunk there's no stopping you. Plus, Bells would turn us down. Parties aren't her type of thing." Jeremiah explained, his tone subtle and soft to not upset her. Everything he said was true. She's a wild drunk person. The things she did were always inappropriate and her words were always slurred, leaving her embarrassed the next day when she remembered all of her drunken actions.

"Belly's growing up. You guys can't seriously expect her to be that same sweet little girl forever." Rory clicked her tongue, eyeing Jeremiah.

"You're right. That doesn't change anything, though. The girls and the moms always watch movies the first night together." The boy with curly hair stated, his lips curving into a small smile at the nostalgia.

"I don't care, Jere! It's not fair!" Aurora stoop up from her spot on his bed, standing in front of him with her arms crossed over her chest. Jeremiah did his best not to laugh at how she tried to be intimidating.

"I don't make the rules. Go complain to our moms about it. I'm sure they could work something out." He stood up next, capturing her slim waist in his hands as he lifted her over his shoulder and dropped her back onto his bed. The mattress sunk inwards, a loud gasp escaping Rory's lips at the impact of her fall.

"Childish," The girl laughed. Jeremiah stood above her with a teasing smirk, moving his hair from covering his eyes before leaning towards her.

"If I kissed you, right now, would that be childish?" Jeremiah quirked a single brow. Aurora's expression dropped to a plain face, trying to ignore the feeling of her heart nearly beating out of her chest. He always knew how to make her nervous in situations like this. Usually, it was always the other way around. But with Jeremiah━━she lost all of her self control and she hated that. She couldn't even begin to understand why he was the only person that could get that kind of reaction out of her. Jeremiah gulped as she got closer.

The second their lips were about to touch, Steven burst into the room without knocking. The two teenagers moved away from each other, groaning in discomfort at their privacy being invaded. They knew Steven could not care less about boundaries, let alone privacy, dude didn't even know the definition of personal space.

"We're leaving in ten. How do I look?" Steven looked up from his phone, completely oblivious to the situation he walked in on. He showed off his outfit, not noticing how annoyed they were at him.

"You look nice, Steven." Jeremiah told the boy plainly. "Nice? Bro, I look fucking fabulous! What is up with you? Did I interrupt something?" The Conklin male stared at the two of them, confused.

"Nope. I was just telling Jeremiah how much fun me and Belly's gonna have without you guys." Aurora shook her head. As she left the room she heard Steven ask Jeremiah what her problem was. His obliviousness and idiocy never failed to blow her mind.

On the way to her room, she caught a glimpse of Belly in the pool while Conrad sat at the edge with his feet dangling back and forth in the water. A small smile made its way to her face. It was obvious that they were in love with each other. They always have been. She hoped this would be the summer they would realize that. The girl decided to join them once they were no longer talking but instead glaring at each other. Their conversation took an unfortunate turn that she wasn't expecting.

"How does the water feel?" Rory approached the two teens, kicking off her sandals. "It feels amazing." Belly smiled at the girl, forgetting the whole argument with Conrad and his change of character.

Aurora took a seat next to Conrad at the edge of the pool, letting her legs dangle in the pool. "I've missed doing this with you guys." The blonde told the duo, trying her best to brighten their moods.

"Me too," Conrad and Belly said at the same time, glancing at each other for a second. After that, there was only a comfortable silence in the air.

"First bonfire of the summer!" Steven's loud voice cheered, catching all of their attention.

"All right, we're totally taking my car. You're not driving." Jeremiah stated, making him laugh.

"Come on. We're leaving. You ready?" Steven approached Conrad, earning a quick nod. The two girls looked at the boys, envious.

"Can we come?" Belly beamed hopefully as she stared at the three boys. "Uh, no." Steven answered, a little bit shocked that she wanted to go.

"The mom's are getting everything set up for your movie night." Jeremiah told the two girls. Isabel nodded while Aurora shook her head at him.

"See ya," Conrad waved at them, making his exit right behind the other two boys.

"Have fun with the moms!" Steven yelled, both girls rolling their eyes at his teasing.

"Asshole!" Aurora shouted at his back as they left. "And he says we're immature." Belly scoffed, holding her breath as she went under the water.

𝓐urora laid in bed, watching Strangers Things on her phone. She was beyond bored. After coming up with a lie to avoid movie night with their moms━━Belly and Rory went their separate ways, disappointed at how lame their first night of official summer turned out to be. They didn't expect to be ditched by the boys. It left both of the teenage girls feeling down in the dumps. Usually, they would be attached at the hip on the first night but things just didn't feel the same this year.

"My literal gay awakening." Aurora kissed her phone as soon as she saw Robin. Belly stood at her door, holding back her laugh as she opened up Snapchat. She was definitely posting that on Rory's birthday.

"Oh, my, God! Belly, how long have you been right there?" Rory turned her phone off, embarrassed that she had gotten caught. That's when Belly lost all of her composure, laughing uncontrollably.

"The whole time." Isabel confessed, still laughing. She laid in the bed next to Aurora, showing her the video that she took of the girl kissing her phone.

"Isabel Conklin! How dare you?" Rory held her mouth open in shock, climbing onto Belly's lap in an attempt to take the girl's phone.

"Okay! Okay! Stop!" The younger girl tapped out after being tickled to the point where she was laughing too hard, and even doubling over in pain.

"I'll delete the video if you get dressed and sneak out to the bonfire with me." Belly proposed to the older girl, earning a shocked look in return.

"Fine, but only because I am in love with this new rebellious side of you, Bells." The girl agreed, taking a look at what Belly was wearing.

Isabel looked good. Aurora eyed Belly's figure, smacking her butt as she stood up to search through her suitcase for an outfit to throw on.

Rory settled on a cropped Tyler the Creator shirt, pairing it with some black ripped shorts that were far too short for her mother's likings, and some sandals since she knew they would be walking through some sand. She got dressed with Belly still in the room, listening with the occasional laugh as Belly talked to Taylor. Rory used to be jealous of the girl when she heard about Belly having another girl best friend back at home, but they ended up enjoying each other's company a lot.

"Alright. I'm ready." Aurora spoke, staring at her reflection in the mirror to make sure the outfit looked exactly like it did in her imagination.

"You both look so good. I wish I was there with you." Taylor's voice echoed over the phone. The two girls smiled while Belly explained that she would be able to visit for her birthday then hung up so that they could quietly sneak past their moms.

As soon as they successfully made it out of the house, Rory started a victory cheer. Isabel's hand covered her mouth, immediately shutting her up.

"Save the cheering for when we actually make it to the bonfire without getting caught." Belly explained, earning a nod and tight-lipped smile.

The two girls walked down the pathway towards the beach, hand in hand, taking pictures and making posts on their private stories that they snuck out.

They walked around aimlessly for about five minutes, spotting a group of teens and young adults, surrounding a small fire pit. There were the people that made out with randoms they had just met, then were the people that were obviously intoxicated, and lastly, the people that sat around making conversation.

"Gas station girl! Where you coming from?" A male approached them. Belly seemed to be familiar with him. Rory crossed her arms over her chest.

"Another party." Belly lied, looking uncomfortable as the guy offered her a beer. He didn't give in, going as far as asking her if she had a boyfriend.

"She's a minor. Now leave her the fuck alone." Rory glared at the man. At his big grown age, he should be able to tell when a woman's uncomfortable.

"Shit. I had no idea." The man paled in the face as he made a quick dash away from them. The two girls sighed in relief, glad he was gone, but it didn't last long once Steven caught sight of them.

"What are you two doing here? What are you wearing?" The boy groaned, trying to hold in his anger as a girl trailed behind him in confusion.

He grabbed his sister by the arm, taking her away as the siblings argued amongst each other. Rory stood next to girl Steven was with before sighing.

"Great party, huh?" The blonde tried to make the best out of the situation. "You got that right." The girl grinned, matching Rory's huge smile.

"I'm Shayla," She suddenly introduced. "Aurora, but my friends call me Rory." The two girls shook hands, trying to at least make new friends. The two turned away from each other as Belly pulled herself out of Steven's tight grip, falling onto the sand. Belly spotted Conrad making out with a girl, causing a huge scene.

Aurora covered her face as Shayla patted her back. The two girls stopped the situation. Shayla pulled Steven away while Rory did the same with Bells.

That's when Jeremiah seemed to notice them, running towards both girls with a wide grin on his face. At least someone was glad to see them there.

"You came! That's great! We can hang out." The boy with curly hair proposed. He grabbed Aurora's hands, twirling her around to examine her. His tongue darted out as he licked his lips, at a loss for words.

"I'm really happy you're here." He was finally able to form a sentence. "Me too." She smiled back, their small moment being ruined as a loud voice called out for Jeremiah, catching both of their attention.

"I'll be right back." Jeremiah promised, holding his pinky out for her to link theirs. It was a childish thing that they still did from time to time. As they linked fingers, he pulled away and went towards the girls.

"Are you jealous?" Belly asked her best friend, watching her glare at Jeremiah's back.

"Maybe." Aurora admitted, rolling her eyes as the two girls walked together along the beach.

"If it makes you feel any better, that guy over there has been staring since we got here." Belly tilted her head subtly, the girl turning to look at him. Their eyes met and that's when he realized he had been caught.

Instead of looking away after being caught staring at her, like they expected him to, he smiled and made a hand gesture for them to join him and his friend.

The two girls shared a quick look as his friend smiled at Isabel. Fuck it. They decided to sit next to the two good-looking boys and chat it up.

"Do you remember me?" The boy asked Aurora. Belly and his friend seemed to hit it off well and were talking about seventh grade. Weird.

"No. I'm so sorry, was I supposed to?" The girl winced, feeling bad. "Uh, no. It's cool. We kissed last summer. On the Ferris Wheel." The boy brought up, a light bulb appearing over her tiny brain.

"Marcus Lopez! I remember you!" Rory beamed, pulling him into a tight embrace. He chuckled, clearing his throat as his nerves began to set in.

"I'm not surprised you didn't recognize me. I don't wear those super thick glasses anymore." Marcus laughed at her bright persona. She was still the same outgoing and friendly girl he remembered.

"I actually thought you looked adorable with glasses." The girl complimented, catching Jeremiah's attention. He ignored the girl sitting next to him, his attention on what the two were saying.

"I remember you saying that." Marcus had this attractiveness to everything he did. Jeremiah swore he could've fallen in love with him too.

"How did you know it was me?" Aurora stared into his eyes, making him swoon. "How could I ever forget your face? It was a night that I find myself going back to all the time." The boy pushed a few strands of blonde hair behind her ear, holding her face in his hands.

"Really?" The girl felt her mouth drop open. They couldn't continue their conversation any further as soon as a fight broke out near the fire pit.

Belly stood up to try and break it up, resulting in someone's elbow hitting her directly in the face. Conrad tackled the guy, throwing punches at him.

The cops showed up while Marcus and Cameron helped Belly get back onto her feet. After that, everyone took off in the opposite direction. Marcus kept his hands around Aurora's waist, shielding her from all the frantic people and helping her make her way to the parking lot. She spotted Jeremiah helping a drunk Conrad into their shared jeep, turning to Marcus.

"Let's go. Get in." Jeremiah called out. Aurora gave him a look and he rolled his eyes, turning to urge Belly to get in as she talked to Cameron.

"I had a really good time with you, despite how horrible this night turned out." Rory stated, chewing on her fingernails as she looked up at him.

"Yeah, me too. I meant what I said earlier, that I think about it. All the time." Marcus rocked back and forth, anxious from Conrad and Jeremiah eyeing him. They were also doing the same to Cam as him and Belly flirted on the other side of the car.

"It might happen again one day." The girl stood on the tip of her toes, kissing him on the cheek. The boy felt his face grow hot, touching the place where her lips had been. Aurora smiled at him and waved as she got into the passenger seat. He stood there motionless for a second before a huge smile broke out onto his face.

Belly actually kissed Cam before she got into the car, leaving everyone shocked. The two teenage girls did spirit fingers to congratulate each other. Out of nowhere, Jeremiah slammed his foot on the brakes.

"Fuck, Steven!" He groaned in realization. "Watch Conrad, I'll be right back." Jere told them.

"You said that last time." The blonde girl huffed under her breath, but he heard her.

"Can you not do this right now? At least wait until we get home, Ror." The boy slammed the car door behind him, running to look for Steven.

Isabel and Conrad both shared knowing looks, noticing the way her mood dampened.

"Have you kids been drinking?" A cop appeared at the window. Rory shook her head.
