CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE - DISAPPEARING ACT

𝓣𝙰𝙽𝙽𝙴𝚁

WE WERE ALL AT REEFSIDE High School as Trent, Conner, Kira, and I walked behind Ethan and Cassidy. Kira was holding Conner's red soccer ball. "Honestly, why don't those two just date already?" I thought.

Kira tossed it in the air a couple of times until she finally tossed it towards Conner. We all walked towards Ethan. Conner placed a hand on his shoulder. Kira was holding Conner's soccer ball again. "What was I thinking?" Ethan asked.

"First date jitters?" Conner asked. "I wouldn't know. This is my first date ever." Ethan replied. "No way." Trent exclaimed. "I think it's sweet." Kira put in. "28-gig hard drive with a 512 meg portable backup is sweet. This is pure torture." Ethan stated.

"Dude, don't sweat. We'll put you through dating boot camp. When you're finished, you'll be Cassidy and Casanova, The power couple of Reefside. Right, guys?" Conner asked Trent, Kira, and I. "Absolutely." Kira replied.

"Okay, class — The crocodile. Now, this amazing reptile has been around for millions of years without evolving. It's a testament to the creature's near perfection. It was about a million years—" Dr. Mercer stopped and turned around. Everyone stopped and looked at him. "Is he all right?" A girl asked. "Not now." Dr. Mercer whispered.

Dr. Mercer turned back around. "Ahem. As I was saying... about a million years ago, the, uh... Excuse me for a moment, please." Dr. Mercer said as he walked out of the classroom. Trent got up and followed him.

"That's weird. Even Dr. Oliver didn't leave class like that. Something fishy is going on." I think to myself. We headed into the lab. "So what's the emergency?" Conner asked. "Hey, guys, Hayley thinks she can demorph me." Dr. Oliver explained. "Awesome." Kira exclaimed. "That's great." Conner added.

"How?" I asked. "With a little help of this slime. It might work as a synthesizing agent that I think can help bring Tommy back to his normal self." Hayley explained. "Okay. I've input your molecular structure and dna information. So now to add the slime. I hope this works." Hayley said. "You're not the only one." Dr. Oliver stated.

"Good luck, Dr. O." Conner said. "Catch you on the flip side." Dr. Oliver said. Hayley put the slime in. "System activated." Hayley said. She stood back with us. "Here we go." She said as the slime started filling up the tubes and poured on Dr. Oliver.

"Huh? No way!" Trent said. "No!" Kira exclaimed. That's when Dr. Oliver disappeared. "What's going on?" Conner asked. "He's gone." Kira said. "Look! The towel!" Kira exclaimed. We all saw a towel being picked up. "Dr. Oliver? Are you there?" Conner asked.

"Yeah, I'm here. Hayley, any guesses on what's going on?" Dr. Oliver asked. "Looks like the slime made your dino power of invisibility kick into overdrive." Hayley explained.

"Great. I got my body back, but now no one can see it." Dr. Oliver said. "An invisible science teacher — that is so totally graphic novel." Ethan said. "Only Ethan will find this cool..." I mumbled as Trent nodded in agreement.

"Glad you find it funny, Ethan." Dr. Oliver commented. "Is there anything you can do?" Kira asked Hayley. "This is a tough one. I have no idea how to counteract that agent." Hayley replied. "Don't worry, Dr. Oliver. We'll figure this out." Trent promised. "Uh, guys? Over here." Dr. Oliver said as Conner, Trent, and I turned around. "There's nothing you can do right now. Hayley and I will work on it." Dr. Oliver informed.

"I guess now's a good time to give Ethan his makeover." Conner said. "Um, but..." Ethan started off. We were at Hayley's Cyberspace. Ethan was trying on different clothes. Ethan was dancing with Conner with a rose in his mouth until he dropped Conner on the couch. "Okay, hold it at the bottom. Tip the glass, try not to hit the rim. Twist." Trent said as Ethan drank it all. "What are you doing?" Trent asked. "Mm." Ethan replied.

"First... cheers." Trent said as he clinked the glasses together. "Well, I think our work here is done." Conner said. "You think you're ready?" Kira asked. "Yeah, I'm feeling pretty good. I can do this." Ethan replied as he got up and walked away. "I can't do this." Ethan said as he headed back towards us. "I can't. I can't do it." Ethan said as he sat back down. "Look, just be yourself, and she can't help but like you." I informed.

"Right. Be myself. Ethan. Yeah." Ethan said. He was just about to get up until our morphers beeped. "Oh, you lucked out." Conner informed as we got up and headed to the lab. We morphed and headed out on our Cycles. We headed towards where the monster was. "Giant thorny thing. Looks about right." Conner said as we got off our Cycles.

"Hey, didn't your mother teach you to play nice with others?" Conner asked. "I'll show you what she taught me!" Thornox exclaimed. We headed to fight Thornox but he tied us up with some kind of rope. "All right, now what?" Kira asked. "Lasers!" Conner said as we took our weapons and fired at Thornox. The rope was cut lose. "Tyranno Staff!" Conner shouted as he got out his weapon. He went to attack Thornox but he caught his weapon and attacked him.

"Conner!" Kira exclaimed. "Think I'll try out my swing. Don't try this at home!" Thornox exclaimed as he used Conner's Tyranno Staff as a golf cub and swung it as it attacked all of us. We all fell to the ground. "See you in the clubhouse!" Thornox told us as he disappeared in a portal. "Oh, man. I'm late for my date!" Ethan exclaimed as he ran off.

Trent, Conner, Kira, Dr. Oliver and I were watching Ethan's date on the screen back at the lab. "My man. Making big points there." Conner commented. "Aw, how cute is he?" Kira exclaimed. "Let's eat." Ethan said. "So far so good." Trent stated. "Looks like I'm not the only excellent teacher around here." Dr. Oliver said as he picked up his water bottle and drank it.

We watched as Ethan was explaining about a game. "No! I specifically told him not to go into geek mode." Conner said. We continued watching as Ethan continued. We watched as Ethan made a fool out of himself. "He's having a complete meltdown." Conner said. "This is so sad to watch." Trent commented as he sighed.

"Wish I had some popcorn for this." I added as Trent looked at me. "Dr. O., is there anything we can do to help him?" Kira asked. There was no response. "Dr. Oliver? Where'd he go?" Kira said as we looked around. We watched as Ethan's date turned around. "I think Ethan might be getting a little help." Kira said. "You think?" Trent replied. We saw Ethan fighting the Tyrannodrones. "We gotta help them." Kira said.

That's when the alarm beeped and the screen showed Thornox and The Evil White Ranger. "Hmm, we got to take care of these guys first." Conner informed. "Ready." Trent said as his morpher showed up. "White Ranger, Dino Power." Trent said. "Dino Thunder, Power Up! HA!" Conner, Kira, and I shouted. We morphed into our Ranger form.

"Tyrannodrones!" Thornox shouted as Tyrannodrones appeared. We began fighting the Tyrannodrones. Kira was fighting Thornox and Conner was fighting The Evil White Ranger. Kira and Conner both fell to the ground. "Too easy!" Thornox stated. "We're just getting started." Conner said. That is until they got attacked. "Have no fear, Blue Ranger is here!" Ethan exclaimed as he fired again.

"Who wants to go?" Ethan asked. "Nice entrance." Kira complimented. "Thanks." Ethan said. "Let's take it to the next level." Conner said as we all went Super Dino Mode. "You'll never get rid of this thorn in your side." Thornox exclaimed. "We'll see about that." Conner informed. "You're about to have the pruning of your life." Kira added.

"We're through playing nice." Ethan said. "Did you guys really have to rhythm?" I asked. "Words are pointless." The Evil White Ranger said as they headed forward to attack us. Kira, Ethan, and I delt with Thornox while Conner fought The Evil White Ranger. Ethan, Kira, and I were throwing kicks at Thornox. We all regrouped. "Don't think this is over yet, Rangers." The Evil White Ranger said. "Hardly." I said.

"We don't, but this should do the trick." Conner said. "Z-Rex Blaster!" All of us shouted. We fired the blaster as The Evil White Ranger dodged it and it fired at Thornox, destroying him. Trent was still fighting the Tyrannodrones but then they disappeared. That's when Thornox suddenly grew. "It's Zord time!" Conner said. We headed into our Zords and then created the Megazord.

"Try and stop me now!" Thornox exclaimed as he attacked us. "Guys, we have to focus." Conner told us. "Right." Kira said. The Evil White Ranger joined the fight as they attacked us both. "Time to go Triassic!" Conner stated as Ethan and Kira powered up the shield. He built the Mesodon Megazord. "That evened things up." Ethan commented. We began fighting once more. It took a while, but we finally defeated Thornox and The Evil White Ranger.

Conner, Trent, Kira, and I walked Hayley's Cyberspace and saw Ethan on his laptop. "Dude, what are you doing here? Aren't you gonna finish your big date?" Conner asked. "Oh, that. Well, Cassidy's great, but I found that we really don't have that much in common." Ethan replied.

"I could've told you that." Kira commented. "Plus, I'm a Ranger. I got to be ready to go whenever duty calls. I don't know how I'm going to tell her it's over. I think she really likes me." Ethan continued on.

"Mm, better think of something, and quick. I'm going to see if Hayley needs some help in the back." Trent informed.

"Uh, we'll go with you." I said.

"Yeah." Conner said as Kira, Conner and I followed him.
