CHAPTER SIXTEEN - THE MISSING BONE
𝓣𝙰𝙽𝙽𝙴𝚁
IT WAS YET ANOTHER DAY at school. I was walking with Kira and Ethan. Conner ducked under the stairs. "You guys heard from Trent yet?" Conner asked. "No, I'm not sure I really want to." I said as Kira nodded in agreement. "We gotta make sure he doesn't go off on some poor freshman because the kid won't give him his lunch money." Ethan stated.
"I think he's after a little more than a free grilled cheese." Conner informed. "When we know that is, maybe we can deal, but until then, we keep an eye on him." Kira stated as we walked into Dr. Oliver's classroom. We were all sitting together in Dr. Oliver's classroom. "Hey, did you guys hear that we're supposed to get a new teacher today?" Ethan asked. "Yeah. Any guesses?" Conner replied.
"Well, I heard from a very reliable source that it's this 80-year-old woman who used to teach Kindergarten in Ohio." Cassidy said. "Really?" Ethan said. The door opened and Principal Randall walked in. "Good morning, class. I would like you to meet your new teacher— Dr. Anton Mercer." Principal Randall said.
That's when Anton Mercer walked in, smiling. "Good morning, class." Anton said. I turned around to face Cassidy. "Hey. She looks pretty good for 80." I stated. "Ha Ha Ha!" Devin laughed until Cassidy smacked him. "Dr. Mercer has graciously agreed to take over until your teacher gets back on his feet. I would like you to treat him with the same respect that you would treat Dr. Oliver." Principal Randall informed.
"Thank you." Anton said as Principal Randall asked. "Well, let me, uh, let me start by saying how honored I am to be here. What I'm handing out to you now are permission slips. These are for your parents to sign. We'll be going on a field trip tomorrow. To a musem. I trust you all will be able to make it." Anton said.
"Well, my parents live all the way in the future. But I can't tell him that. Maybe Dr. Oliver could sign it for me." I think to myself. We headed out of school. "Anton Mercer teaching other people's children? He doesn't even like his own, from what I can tell." Kira stated. "Yeah. I wonder whose brilliant idea this whole thing was." Ethan said. "Gotta be Randall's. Did you see them together? It's like they're old pals." I informed.
"Hey, No matter how bad we've got it, there's always someone who's got it worse." Conner said. We saw Trent arguing with his Dad. "What are you guys doing now?" I asked. "Soccer." Conner said. "Playing my guitar." Kira added.
"Computer club. You?" Ethan asked. "I promised Dr. O. I'd help him inventory some stuff in the lab. Plus, he'll probably want to know who's teaching his class." I said. "Yeah, I wonder what he'd have to say about it." Conner said. "See ya." I said. "See ya." Conner, Ethan, and Kira replied as we went in opposite directions.
I was at the lab and I just finished telling Dr. Oliver that Anton Mercer was teaching his class. "That's great." Dr. Oliver said. "You're kidding, right?" I asked, thinking that he was joking. "No. I know you think Anton is a little strange." Dr. Oliver started. "Yeah, and Justin Timberlake's a little cute." I commented.
"All right, he's a lot strange. But he's brilliant. He taught me a lot of what I know. He'll be great." Dr. Oliver said. "If you say so." I said. "He really is an amazing person, once you get to know him." Dr. Oliver informed. I picked up an old fossil, looking at it. "Hey, where does this go?" I asked. "Oh, you better give me that." Dr. Oliver replied, taking the fossil from me. "What is it?" I asked. "Just a bone." Dr. Oliver answered.
"Yeah, but why is it so important?" I asked again. "It needs to be kept safely in my hands. Let's just put it away." Dr. Oliver responded as he opened up a case. "Whatever you say." I said. Dr. Oliver placed the bone in the case, closed it, and then locked it.
We were at the musem. "All right, come along now. We don't want to keep our prehistoric friends waiting." Anton said. I held onto my purple backpack. "What's the matter?" Conner asked. "That thing just gives me a creepy vibe. It's like it moved." I said, referring to the dinosaur in front of the musem. "You know dinosaurs are extinct, right?" Ethan asked. I gave him a look. "Okay... I see your point." Ethan said. All three of them walked ahead of me.
I was about to follow them, but looked back at the dinosaur again. "Stop staring." I said before I followed them into the musem. "And just ahead is a Triceratops from the cretaceous period. Strictly herbivores... hunted by the Tyrannosaurus Rex." Anton was saying. "Gotta love the T-Rex." Conner commented. "Whatever bro." Ethan said.
I was walking next to Kira as I suddenly heard a whooshing sound. "Huh?" I said as I turned around. I could've sworn I saw something moving. Like it was a monster. I decided to go see what it was. Until Cassidy decided to follow me. "Hey. Where are you going?" Cassidy asked. "Uh, to the bathroom." I replied. "Oh, great, me too because my lip gloss is totally wearing off." Cassidy said.
"No, Cassidy, just stay here, okay? You're just gonna get us both in trouble." I informed. "Whatever. I'm going to the little girls' room, and you can do whatever you want." Cassidy said as she walked off. Once Anton and Cassidy were gone, I decided to open the door to the storage room. I headed inside and looked around.
That was until a Tyrannodrone caught me. I began fighting him. More came and I began fighting them as well. Until two of the Tyrannodrones grabbed me. "Let me go, you freaks!" I yelled. The Tyrannodrones lead me to a bone that lit up. "Tanner... You must listen to me." The evil voice said. That's when my eyes turned white. "You will do as I command." The evil voice continued.
I ran out of the storage room. "There he is! Tanner! Tanner!" Conner said. Conner, Ethan, and Kira ran towards me. "Are you all right? What happened?" Ethan asked. "Uh, yeah, I'm fine. I just got lost." I replied. "Lost?" Kira said, not believing me. "Yeah, as in "not found." But I'm fine. Are we leaving?" I asked.
"Yeah, we're leaving." Ethan answered. "Great, let's go." I said. I was over at the counter when Hayley came up to me. "Hey, Tanner. How come you're not studying with the rest of the group?" She asked. "What, we have to do everything together?" I asked her. "Well, no, but you usually do, don't you?" Hayley said. "Not anymore. Look, Hayley, I don't mean to be rude, but I need to get this done for Dr. Mercer's class." I told her. Hayley snorted.
"I'll never get use to the sound of that. Dr. Mercer's class?" Hayley commented. "Hey, he's a really good teacher, and we're gonna learn a lot from him." I informed. "Okay, whatever you say, Tanner." Hayley replied and left me alone. That's when Conner, Ethan, and Kira came up to me. "Hey, you wanna go to a movie tonight?" Conner asked.
"No." I answered without hesitating. "You know, when someone doesn't wanna hang out with people, they usually come up with some sort of excuse." Conner informed. I looked at them. "Look, I just don't feel like spending any more time with you guys than I really have to, okay?" I said. "I have to go. I have something to do." I continued as I picked up my things and headed out.
I ran through the forest to where the cave was. I saw that the door was closed. I called Dr. Oliver on my morpher. "Dr. O., are you there? It's Tanner." I said. "Yeah, what's up, Tanner?" Dr. Oliver asked. "I was out running just now, and I think I saw something by the edge of the old forest by the lake. It might be a Dinozord egg. Could you check it out for me? I have homework to do." I replied. "I'm on my way." Dr. Oliver informed.
"Great, thanks." I said. I then went to hide behind a tree. Dr. Oliver came out of the cave with his ATV. I waited until he was completely out of sight and then ran into the cave with it closing behind me. "Now finish the task." The evil voice said. I walked over to the locked box and easily broke it open with my strength. I smiled evily. I opened the box. "Excellent. Soon I will be complete. Then I will rise again." The evil voice said as I grabbed the bone. My eyes were once again white.
Dr. Oliver's voice came on my morpher. "Tanner, It's me. I couldn't find anything out here. Are you sure you saw something?" He asked. "Oh, wow. I must've been wrong. Thanks for checking it out, Dr. O." I answered like it was no big deal. "No problem." Dr. Oliver said. The storage room opened as I walked in. "I have returned as you commanded." I said. "Good boy. Did you bring it?" The evil voice asked.
"Yes." I replied as I placed the bone on the shelf. "Excellent." The voice replied. A light shined as the creature was turned into Fossilador. "You have served your purpose." Fossilador said as he attacked me and I fell onto the ground, knocked out. I woke up to Hayley waking me up. "Yeah, I'm fine. What happened?" I asked. I thought for a second as I remembered. "Oh, no. I set that thing—" I said. "Are you okay to get up?" Hayley asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine." I replied as I got up. "Should I call a doctor?" The museum security guard said. "Uh, no. No, I just — I need to get home." I said. I ran out of the storage room with Hayley following me. "I can't believe I was responsible for that thing coming alive." I said.
"It wasn't your fault. In your civilian form, you couldn't stop it from controlling your mind. Luckily, the rest of the team's Ranger powers will protect them." Hayley told me. "I'm going over there." I said. "Are you sure?" Hayley asked. Flashbacks of what I did to the Mystic Rangers because my mind was being controlled by the silver staff came back to me. "No one messes with my mind and gets away with it." I told her.
I arrived at the fight scene where Conner, Ethan, and Kira were. I was on top of my Carnotaurus's head. "Hang on, guys!" I said. "Tanner!" Conner exclaimed. "Dino Thunder, Power Up! HA!" I said as I morphed. "Carno Power!" I shouted once I was done morphing. I got in my Zord as my Zord connected itself with the Megazord. "Megazord on-line!" Everyone exclaimed. "Good timing, Tanner." Ethan said.
"Yeah, we could use the help." Conner added. "Don't mention it, guys." I said. "Let's blast that bonehead!" I exclaimed. "Fire lasers!" I said as lasers fired. "Carno Punching Attack!" I shouted. A purple boxing glove came out and punched Fossilador all over as he lost a hand. "Nice try!" Fossilador exclaimed. His hand grew. "No way!" Kira said. Fossilador gave out his attack. "That was just plain nasty!" Conner exclaimed. "The guy's got some prehistoric breath!" Ethan commented. "I'm just getting started!" Fossilador said.
He attacked us once more and kept attacking us. "Tanner! Aim for the spot where you put the missing bone! That's where he's most vulnerable!" Dr. Oliver said. "Don't have to tell me twice!" I said. "Locked on!" I shouted. "Tyranno Drill!" I yelled. Fossilador finally went down. We were back at the command center. "We're so glad you're back to normal, Tanner. You were pretty scary there for a while." Ethan said.
"I'm so sorry I was mean to you guys." I informed. "Don't worry about it. Seriously." Conner said. "Yeah, I mean, We're kinda used to it." Kira added. "See? That would be one of those things you say from time to time." Ethan stated. "Oh, right. Sorry." Kira said. "I'm just glad everything worked out. Kinda weird though." I commented. "What's that?" Dr. Oliver asked.
"Anton Mercer. This thing was stored in his museum. Why?" I asked.
