07 ᯾ The Young Exorcist
"You want my personal data? What are you gonna use it for, pervert." Hanako looked at Nene with a glint of mischief in his eyes. He was talking as if he wasn't a pervert himself.
Nene showed him an open page of a magazine she was reading. "It is not perverted! I'm doing a compatibility horoscope!"
"Uhm.." Kou looked down blankly. "Why are you both squishing me...?" Kou was genuinely confused as to why these two are sitting away from each other. He didn't know why Nene was asking Hanako for horoscopes, nor does he know why Hanako is avoiding them.
If only Y/n were here to save him from these two. But unfortunately, the girl was out there living her life. Kou internally cried as he imagined Y/n smiling with other boys surrounding her.
In the
Student
Council
room..
"I feel like someone's thinking about me.." Y/n spoke up as she continued doing her paperwork. Akane looked at her confused. "What do you mean?"
"I meant what I meant, Akane-kun?" She stared at him blankly. "Now, Minamoto-san. What were you saying again?"
"Where's Y/n-chan when we need her.." Kou mumbled, though Nene heard it loud and clear.
"That's right! If Y/n-chan was here, I'm sure she could already answer all of these in behalf of Hanako-kun!" she exclaimed. Hanako's eyes widened in both shock and confusion. Did Y/n already tell Nene about her secret?
"What do you mean by that, Yashiro?"
"I mean.. Y/n-chan is always so good at guessing! There's nothing to hide from her!" Nene looked up in thought. "Like, there was this one time I made her guess what I brought for lunch, and she guessed it all right! Like— only she can do that!"
Hanako sighed. Nope, she didn't tell it.
"Anyway. Yashiro, if you wanna do a compatibility horoscope, do it with one of your crushes." Hanako rested his head on his hand. "Like Minamoto-senpai or somebody."
"Minamoto-senpai?"
"M-Minamoto-senpai wasn't a crush so much as, like, a dream!" Nene waved her hands around, looking at Hanako surprised as to why he suddenly mentioned her senior. "Like a TV personality or a pop star. You're just happy watching them, even knowing that you can never be together. He's the Student Council president, and he's so handsome and so smart.."
Nene looked up at the sky in admiration, holding her cheeks as she thought about the guy.
"Minamoto-senpai, what a charming prince..."
"Why, thank you..."
A blank expression made its way to Nene's face as she turned around. Upon seeing the blonde-haired male standing behind her, all her thoughts suddenly disappeared.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to frighten you.." the guy looked like he was shining underneath the bright sun. It was like sparkles managed to appear behind him, causing him to outstand the stars.
"M-M-M-MINAMOTO-SENPAI?!" Nene instantly backed away, went a whole ten feet away from the guy, who gave her a smile. Behind him was the H/c-haired girl who didn't bother showing up earlier. "Wait, Y/n-chan!"
"Hi, Nene-chan!" Y/n grinned, going to Nene. "Sorry I left you with those two. You see, this guy here gave me and Akane-kun extra work." She sent Minamoto Teru a quick glare, causing him to frown.
"Mean, L/n-san." He ruffled her hair before looking at Kou, who was already in front of him. "And Kou, I've been looking for you." He softly hit Kou with the clipboards he held. Kou gave Teru an apologetic grin.
"Sorry, nii-chan.."
"Nii-chan?! What's going on?!" Nene cried out, making Y/n chuckle.
"And you're Yashiro-san?" Teru went towards the ombré-haired girl. "I don't believe we've met."
"Eh? Are you sure about that, Minamoto-san?" Y/n crossed her arms, forcing out a smile as she looked at Teru. "I'm sure you've seen her at the hallways at least once. After all..."
I got involved with her plans for being with you.. reason why I talked with Hanako-kun again... she grumbled.
"Mhm.. I'd often see her.. I just didn't have enough time to go and talk to her.."
"I see.."
At least he noticed her, right?
"Anyways, Yashiro-san. I'm Minamoto Teru. Thank you for always being so kind to my brother.." Teru gave Nene a sweet smile, making the girl's eyes sparkled as she looked at him.
"Yes sir...♥︎"
"And.."
"... You.."
Y/n's breath hitched as she looked at Teru, giving Hanako a dark glare, making the apparition, himself, feel uncomfortable. The atmosphere was tense indeed..
"Kou, L/n-san." The girl flinched upon hearing her name. "Come here, we need to talk."
"Eh..." She instantly went behind Nene in fear. A pissed off, exorcist-mode Minamoto Teru is one of her top ten most feared people. "Uh.. wait..."
Y/n looked at Nene. "Nene-chan, you must save me..."
But the girl was too lovestruck to even converse. She just looked at the sky with heart eyes, probably thinking of her encounter with Teru.
Y/n grumbled before looking at Hanako. "Are you okay?" she asked.
"A bit uncomfortable," he replied. "But other than that, I'm great." He gave her a lively grin, probably trying to cover up the frown he made earlier.
Y/n patted his shoulder. "I wish you luck, number seven.." and then, she walked away, leaving Hanako in a blank state.
What goes on
between the
Minamoto
siblings.
"I'll clean up this mess." Before Teru could walk away, Y/n instantly blocked his way, giving him a sharp look. "Minamoto-san, Kou-kun still has something to say." She looked at the other boy. "At least let him speak."
After Teru called them to come inside for a chat. Teru and Kou ended up having a little discussion about the seventh mystery and about Kou trying to exorcise him.
While the two were talking, Y/n ended up sitting on the staircase behind Teru, waiting for their conversation to end. It was awkward and tense, but it's not like she can just barge in and do whatever she wants anyway.
"W-Wait a minute, Teru-nii.." Kou gave his brother a look, to which made Teru think about it.
"... Okay." He messed Kou's hair up and smiled. "I'll give you a little more time. You know what you have to do."
"Yes, sir." Kou then made eye contact with Y/n, who tried her best trying to avoid being noticed. "And... Teru-nii.. why did you bring Y/n-chan inside too? Wasn't this conversation supposed to be private or something?"
"Eh.." Y/n smiled. "I know about your exorcist background anyway, you don't need to worry.. I'm not spilling anything on Hanako-kun.."
Teru smiled. "Rest assured, L/n-san won't try to spill a word to the seventh mystery. You can go now, Kou. L/n-san and I still have to talk."
"O.. kay..?" For a split second, Kou saw Y/n's smile break as he started running down the hall.
After Kou
left...
"I thought I was gonna be exposed today." Y/n sighed as she leaned on the wall, crossing her arms as she looked at Teru. "Anyway, did you really mean that? Leaving Kou to exorcise Hanako-kun?"
"I'm sure you already know the answer to that, L/n-san." Teru scoffed. "When things get out of hand, I will intervene no matter what. So don't even try stopping me."
"I wasn't going to anyway.." the girl frowned as she looked at the side, trying to avoid eye contact with the boy infront of her. "Anyways, what's with you bring me along? I'm sure that wasn't the only thing you wanted to say."
"That's right." Teru smiled for the nth time. "I want you to watch over Kou while he's at it. I'm sure he's going to try skipping classes tomorrow. So till then, make sure to keep an eye out, and if anything goes weird, step in till I arrive."
"Eh.." before Y/n could even reply, Teru raised his arm, showing the bracelet made of beads he used a lot on spirits. "Of course, Minamoto-san.."
"Great! Thank you so much, L/n-san." He then waved at the girl before walking away, leaving her annoyed.
Skipping
classes be like.
"He's really suspicious," Kou mumbled as he squinted his eyes, looking at Hanako, who was doing something which Kou had no clue about.
"Yeah, he does look suspicious."
"I know right.." Kou's eyes widened when he came into realization that he was here alone. He quickly looked behind him to see the H/c-haired girl, also looking at Hanako suspiciously. "Wait.. Y/n-chan?!"
"Hey, Kou-kun." The girl gave him a warm smile. "So you're skipping class to watch over Hanako-kun, huh?"
Kou gulped. "How did you know?"
"It's obvious." Y/n shrugged. "Plus, I heard your conversation with Minamoto-san yesterday, that led me straight to the conclusion that you're skipping classes to watch over this guy."
"Does Teru-nii know?"
"Most probably, yeah."
"Wait, how are you not in class right now?"
"Well..." Y/n scratched her cheek, thinking about how she was about to faint earlier and was taken immediately to the infirmary. "Let's just say, I had an excuse to get out of class."
Kou looked at her with his brows furrowed. "What was your excuse?"
"Pulled a stunt, and bam, here I am. What about you?"
"Just, straight up told them I had to do something and ran away."
"You have guts, Kou—"
"Is someone there?" The two instantly flinched before crouching down underneath the window, making sure the teacher doesn't see them.
Once they heard footsteps going away, they both sighed in relief.
"That was close..." Y/n held her chest, trying to calm her overly beating heart down. "I think that took away ten years of my life span. But heck, that was intense." She looked at Kou. "I've never been so quick in my life.."
Kou stared at the girl, who seemed to be smiling to herself for being so quick into taking action. I'm sure if Y/n-chan didn't drag me down to crouch, the teacher would have caught me for sure..
"Thank you, Y/n-cha—"
"What'cha both doing?" Suddenly, Hanako popped up infront of Y/n, floating upside down. The girl looked at him with a weird expression.
"Uh..."
"You're both spying on me to see if I'm doing something bad?" Hanako gave the two a teasing smile. "I can understand why the kid is doing it, but Y/n-chan! I'm definitely honored," he cooed, stroking the girl's hair, making her irritated.
"Don't get it wrong, Hanako-kun," she grumbled. "Minamoto-san told me to watch over Kou while he investigates you," the girl then mumbled.
"Minamoto-san?"
"Yep." She raised both of her hands as if she were surrendering. "Not like I can fight that guy. He's basically the most powerful dude here. Student Council president and a top class exorcist, that's what we're dealing here with."
Hanako frowned. "But here I am, leader of the seven mysteries and..." He paused, thinking about what else to say about himself. "Eh.."
"Don't worry, Hanako-kun.. I support you.." she gave him a pat on his shoulder. "Just to let you know, I've warned you about these guy, but of course, you swept it under the rug.."
"Sorry..."
"Don't worry."
"We're spying on you to reveal your evil deeds," Kou said, looking at the two, who seemed to have forgotten that the boy was even there in the first place. "So give me that for a second." He took the bag that Hanako was carrying.
He spilled all its contents. And he was absolutely dumbfounded, along with Y/n, who looked weirded out.
A haniwa clay figure, a textbook, notebook, lunch pass, and more, were scattered. Y/n backed away from Hanako, scratching her head.
"I got a clue that this was what you were doing but.." she gave Hanako a look. "It still weirds me out to see you having these..."
"Why did you have stolen goods in the first place?" Kou asked, looking at Hanako with a weird vibe.
Hanako stared at him blankly. "It's not what you think." He pointed at the pink bunny-like creatures by his feet. "The Mokkes took them."
"I had Yashiro change the rumors... But I still can't get 'em to shake off their thieving habits. So every once in a while, I collect everything that seems valuable and take it all back to the owners."
"You know, I can help you," Y/n spoke up, raising her hand as she looked at Hanako. "You can always call me, I'm pretty good at controlling them.."
"Eh.." Hanako smirked before looking away. "As much as I want to accept your help, I have to pass." He raised his hands, signaling a no. "I don't want any Mokkes going through a purifying process and making them suffer..."
"What?" Kou raised brow. Y/n smiled. "You can ask your brother, Kou-kun.."
"Anyways, you two." Hanako looked at them. "Can you do me a little favor?"
"Wow! That was scary!" Hanako sat up, looking down, still shaken up. "I thought I was gonna die!"
Long story short, Hanako asked them to help him take something from this tower. Which led Kou to holding him by his feet, and since the boy was lost in his thoughts, Hanako fell.
Y/n gave him a blank look. "Hanako-kun, not to be rude but.." she deadpanned, "you're already dead.."
"Oh." Hanako looked up in realization. "Yeah..."
The three all stared at each other before breaking out a smile.
"Oh right." Hanako took out the thing he basically fell for. "Here you go, kid."
Y/n watched as Hanako handed Kou the earrings he hadn't noticed that he lost since this morning. Her smile then faded as she took out her phone.
She pressed a certain number on her speed dial.
"Hello?" She waved at the two boys before walking away. "Yeah, you should come now.."
