the creel house
Once Nancy had woken everyone else up and explained Max's drawing, they headed straight for the Creel house. As they got there, Asher had a weird feeling in his stomach which he couldn't really describe. Asher didn't know why the house made him feel weird, but he felt like there was more to the house than just it being Victor Creel's house. Like there was something he was supposed to know about it but he didn't. All Asher knew was that he wanted to leave there as soon as possible.
"Dude, you good?" Lucas asks Asher as they walk up to the house.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm good" Asher says with a nod "This house just gives me the heebie-jeebies, you know?"
"I get that" Lucas says with a sigh as he looks up at the house.
"I mean, what exactly are we supposed to be looking for in this shithole?" Steve asks as him and Nancy take the nails out of the wood in front of the door.
"We're not sure" Nancy says "We just know this house is important to Vecna."
"Because Max saw it in Vecna's red soup mind world?" Steve asks, making Asher laugh at what Steve had called it.
"Basically" Nancy tells Steve.
"Maybe it holds a clue to where Vecna is" Dustin explains "Why he's back. Why he killed the Creels. And how to stop him before he comes back for Max."
"We don't think he's in here, do we?" Lucas asks the group.
"Guess we'll find out" Max says with a shrug.
"Are you trying to make me not want to go in there more than I already do?" Asher asks Lucas "Huh, Sinclair?"
"I'm sorry, but it's a possibility" Lucas tells Asher.
"Ready?" Steve asks Nancy before they drop the wood, showing the door with the stained glass red rose "It's locked" Steve says as he tries to open the door.
"Steve, when you're with me, nothing's ever locked" Asher says with a smug look, before picking up a rock, chucking it at the window of the door, making the stain glass smash "And... voila" Asher says as he puts his hand in through the broken window, unlocking the door before opening it.
"Guess you're not completely useless" Steve mutters as he walks past Asher, into the house.
"Useless?" Asher asks with a scoff "I do more to help than you'll ever do, Harrington."
"Yeah, right" Steve says to Asher, making the sixteen year old roll his eyes.
"Okay, this place is creepy" Asher mentions as he gets his flashlight out, with his weird feeling becoming worse the more he steps into the house.
"You can say that again" Max bluntly says to Asher as she follows behind him.
"Looks like someone forgot to pay their electric bill" Lucas points out as everyone gets their flashlights out and turns them on, all apart from Steve.
"Where'd everyone get those?" Steve asks.
"Do you need to be told everything?" Dustin asks Steve in shock "You're not a child."
"Thank you" Steve bluntly says to Dustin, before Dustin takes his bag off, giving Steve a spare flashlight as Max walks over to the grandfather clock near the stairs.
"Yo, Max, you good?" Asher asks as he walks over to her, making the rest of the group follow him.
"You all see that, right?" Max asks, staring at the clock.
"Yeah" Most of the group says to Max, reassuring her.
"Is that what you saw?" Nancy asks Max, making Max nod her head "In your visions?"
"I mean, it's... it's just a clock, right?" Robin points out "Like a normal old clock."
"Why is this wizard obsessed with clocks?" Steve asks the group.
"Maybe he's a clock maker?" Asher suggests with a shrug "Or maybe... okay, this might be a long shot, but just maybe--"
"Get to the point" Dustin says to Asher.
"Okay, I'm getting there" Asher says to Dustin "What if, let's just say, what if one of the kids or even the mom didn't actually die? What if it was one of them that did all of this and then somehow became Vecna?"
"They all died, Ash" Nancy says to Asher with a sigh "Victor saw it. They all died."
"I told you it's a long shot" Asher says with a shrug.
"All I know is, the answers are here" Nancy says to the group "Somewhere. Okay, everyone, stay in groups of two. Robin, upstairs."
"You're coming with me" Max says to Asher before pulling him into another room "I've got to tell you something."
"What's up?" Asher asks Max as he looks around the room.
"So, when I was in Vecna's mind, I saw something else which I didn't bring up to the others" Max tells Asher, getting his full attention.
"What did you see?" Asher asks Max.
"I saw this photo, it was of a kid. He didn't look older than three" Max explains to Asher "I don't know whether it was something from his past or if he has a kid or something."
"There's a chance" Asher says with a shrug "I mean, we don't really know much about this dude other than he has some weird obsession with this house... and apparently a child."
"Is there a chance that he's got a kid?" Max asks "I know this is a long shot, but if he had a kid, maybe this kid knows how to stop him."
"Yeah, only if we know who he is, how old the kid actually is, where he lives, if this kid is actually his... then yeah, we have a chance" Asher tells Max.
"Like I said, it's a long shot" Max says with a sigh, creating an awkward tension between the two.
"Oh, there's a piano in here!" Asher says excitably, as he walks over to the piano, making Max follow him.
"Why are you getting so excited over a piano?" Max asks Asher, giving him an unimpressed look.
"I've never seen a piano, okay? Don't judge me" Asher says as he starts pressing some of the keys "Who knows, maybe this opens a secret passage or something?" Asher asks before pressing one of the keys, before looking around the room to find a secret passage opening "Well, that's disappointing" Asher says, making Max laugh.
"You're an idiot" Max says, still laughing.
"This is nice you know" Asher says to Max with a smile, making her stop laughing, but she's still smiling.
"What's nice?" Max asks Asher.
"Seeing you smile. Hearing you laugh" Asher comments "Haven't seen you do that in a long time. When was the last time I saw you like this?"
"Before we broke up probably" Max says with a shrug before Asher hit another key, right before one of the lamps started flickering.
"Did I just do that?" Asher asks Max "Am I magic?"
"You're seeing this too?" Max asks Asher, who nods his head as Max goes to touch the lamp, which immediately stops flickering but one of the lights in the hallway starts to flicker.
"Max, look" Asher says, turning Max to face the lamp as they both follow the flickering of lights upstairs.
"Are you guys okay?" Steve asks as he sees Asher and Max walking upstairs, being the only two that wasn't already there.
"Can you guys see this?" Asher asks the group as he points to the flickering light.
"When did it start happening?" Nancy asks as everyone comes towards Max and Asher.
"I don't know, I pressed a key on a piano and then this started happening" Asher says with a shrug before looking at Max "Maybe I'm the secret child of Vecna!"
"What?" Dustin asks, being confused by Asher's statement.
"Long story" Max tells Dustin, not wanting to explain it to everyone else.
"It's like the Christmas lights" Nancy points out.
"Christmas lights?" Robin whispers to Nancy, not being in the loop.
"Yeah, when Will was in the Upside Down, the lights... came to life" Nancy whispers back to Robin.
"Vecna's here" Lucas points out "In this house. Just on the other side."
"Should we leave?" Asher asks the group "I think this would be a good time to leave."
"Ash" Dustin says, making Asher look at him.
"Yeah buddy" Asher says with a smile, hoping this means they could leave the creepy house.
"Shut up" Dustin bluntly says to Asher, making him sadly nod.
"I think he just left the room" Robin points out as the light goes out.
"Did he hear us?" Max asks.
"Can he see us?" Steve also asks.
"Headphones, Max" Asher says as he puts Max's headphones on her head before reaching down to her Walkman to play Running Up That Hill.
"Wait, wait" Nancy says, getting the group's attention "Everyone, turn off your flashlights and spread out" She says, making everyone do what Nancy says before they start walking around, making Asher follow Max to make sure that she's okay.
"I got him! Got him! I got him!" They hear Robin shout as they all run over to where Robin is to see the light slowly flicker away "I had him."
"Oh, whoa" Steve says as his flashlight, that he borrowed from Dustin, comes on "I think he's moving. He's moving. He's moving" Steve mentions as he walks around, with the light staying on. The group all follow Steve until they reach the stairs to the attic, where the light ends up going off "I lost him."
"No you didn't" Max points out, opening the door to the attic, which has the light on.
"Okay, guys, this is the part in the horror movies where everyone dies" Asher comments "We're not going up there" He says, right before everyone ignores him and starts walking up the stairs "Okay, if we die, don't blame me. Just know, I will be haunting you guys for the rest of your lives" Asher mentions as he also follows everyone up the stairs to the attic.
"How can you haunt us if we're also dead?" Lucas asks Asher.
"I... I actually don't know" Asher mumbles out "I'll get back to you on that."
"Hold up, guys" Dustin says, making everyone look at him "What if he's leading us to a trap?"
"That's exactly what I was saying!" Asher yells "But no one listens to me."
"No one's listening to me either" Dustin says to Asher as they watch as everyone just keeps walking.
"See, we're the smart ones here" Asher says to Dustin as they unwillingly follow them "The smart ones have to stick together."
"Are you just saying that because you're scared?" Dustin asks Asher, who stays silent "You are totally scared right now."
"I'm not... I just have a bad feeling, all right?" Asher says to Dustin, who rolls his eyes.
As they finally make it into the attic, they see darkness, apart from the singular light that is flickering in the middle of the room. When the group make their way towards the light, they notice that their flashlights were starting to flicker as well, making them know exactly where Vecna is.
"Okay, what's happening?" Steve asks the group as the surround the light.
"I think we've found the creepy guy" Asher suggests as their flashlights start getting lighter and lighter, till all of a sudden each bulb in the flashlights starts to shatter, one by one, until the single light bulb shatters, leaving the group in pitch black darkness.
