"You and Norman, of all people, getting into a fight?"

Serephina backed away from the door upon hearing Mama's voice from inside the infirmary. She then held Phil's hand before walking down the hall.

I guess Ray's got Mama under control. Serephina bit her lower lip as Phil waved her a goodbye, going downstairs to play with the other kids while the girl went into the bedrooms. But something still bugs me...

Serephina's eyes scanned the entire room thoroughly, looking for anything off. From what she could remember, Ray's been Mama's spy for nearly six years. Which meant he had gotten tons of 'prizes' from Mama...

But what I'm questioning is.. what would he do with those prizes. She went towards Ray's area and checked his drawers and pillows. But there wasn't anything unusual about it at all.

Suddenly, she came across an idea.

"What if it's..." With all her might, she pushed Ray's bed, barely even making it budge. But even so, she spotted an unusual plank on the floor.

She raised a brow before going towards it. The plank didn't seem attached to the floor, it looked like it could be opened anytime. Not to mention, it looked like it has been open.

She released the breath she didn't realize she had been holding in and took the plank.

There, she saw what Ray had been hiding the entire time.

"W-Wha...?" She couldn't even finish what she said. She felt her body trembling. Why did.. why did Ray have these things hidden here..?

She looked at the objects. Unless...

A frown made its way to her face as she placed the plank back and pushed the bed back to its proper position.

Without another word, she left the room.

The idea Emma and Norman had were for Ray to hold Mama back while the rest of them would go inspect what would be across the wall, Serephina included.

The reason why she was left behind was her curiosity over what Ray was trying to do while they weren't looking, hence, why she decided to investigate it herself.

Now, Serephina is trying to rush towards the end of the forest where the walls lie. Maybe she could catch up with the others.

But halfway through her run, she heard voices.

Specifically, Sister Krone's.

We got Mama under control, but we forgot about Sister Krone. Serephina bit her lip as she hid behind a tree, trying to hear whatever they were talking about.

"I've heard your entire conversation in the dining hall!" Serephina flinched as she clasped her hands together. This is bad, this is really bad... Our plans going to be ruined and—

"The target includes all five of you!" Serephina's breathing hitched when she heard Sister Krone's statement. Her brows furrowed in confusion, but deep inside, she felt somewhat relieved.

She doesn't know about all of us yet!

"Norman... Emma. Ray... Gilda... Don."

She didn't know I was included? Serephina silently sighed in relief as she continued to listen to their conversation.

"So hey..." Serephina tried to take a peek of what was going on. There, she saw Sister Krone's face inches away from Emma and Gilda. They stared at her with fear.

"Would you five like to team up with me?"

Huh?

"Talk to you later, kids!" Sister Krone left, leaving a heavy tension between the group. After mentioning how Don and Gilda had both helped her in finding out about what they were doing, the two couldn't help but feel nothing but guilt.

Serephina stepped out from her hiding spot and looked at Don and Gilda with a smile. "Don't let it get to you." She gave them both a pat on the shoulder. "Honestly, I'm happy that this happened. I've been listening."

They both looked at her with confusion written all over their faces. Norman stepped forward and nodded at Serephina.

"She's right," he agreed. "Now, we won't even have to worry about distracting Sister Krone while we're going on our investigation! Now all we need is for Ray to make sure that Mama remains preoccupied during the entire mission."

Serephina frowned, holding herself back from speaking out about what she saw. She could tell that Norman had a clue about what Ray was trying to do and chose to remain quiet about it. Now, she's doing the same thing.

"Make the best out of what I have..?" Emma  repeated what Sister Krone had said earlier. Serephina could sense the hatred dug into Emma's tone. "She was one of us! She knows what it's like.. and yet.."

"How could she seriously think that a lifetime of raising a line of kids to eventually kill in the end... Is the best thing she could do? Cozy? Pure? Humane?"

"That woman.. doesn't care about any of us at all!"

"I agree," Norman spoke up. "She likely plans to ship us out in the end, as initially planned."

"But the only reason she's not doing it now.." Serephina raised her index finger as she explained. "Is because she has no proof, power, or credibility. In other terms, the minute she gets her hands onto one of this things."

Serephina shivered. There's no doubt she'll betray us and ship us out in a blink of an eye!

"But this situation is favorable for our side."  Norman's eyes turned sharp as he voiced out his thoughts. "Power and credibility.. are surely things that cannot be obtained easily. So as long as we prevent her from getting any evidence about us.. she will have no choice but to let us go."

Serephina then looked at Emma and gave her a determined smile. She held the girl's hand and said, "So for now.. it may not be genuine, but let's carry out the alliance!"

Emma looked at Norman. The boy gave her a nod as he looked at Don and Gilda, who both looked hesitant but managed to nod.

That night... Sister Krone opened the door, revealing Norman and Emma standing there with an uneasy and sharp look on their faces.

Sister Krone smiled as she opened the door wider for them to step in. "Come right in."

"Now.."

"What is it that you want to ask about?"
