03. 5 | Tears.
Serephina woke up at midnight from two quiet voices. The two voices were muffled, her vision was still blurry, but a few moments later, she could see a familiar albino and ginger.
"Emma? Norman?" Her voice was low and quiet, but the two somehow managed to hear her. They turned around. By this point, Serephina could already see clearly despite the darkness.
With only the moon lighting the place up, Serephina could see a terrified and traumatized expression on their faces. They looked at her like they had just seen a ghost.
"S-Serephina..." Emma croaked out. And if Serephina was mistaken, she could see small droplets glimmering underneath Emma's eyes.
Tears? Serephina thought.
The brunette looked over at Ray, who was still sleeping peacefully. Now, she realized that the two were keeping something from them, all of them.
"What happened?" Serephina stood from her bed and walked towards them barefooted, making sure no creaking was heard from the wooden floor. "You've been like this since earlier. Ray told me you both went to the gate to hand Little Bunny back to Conny. You both came back empty-handed then told us that Conny wasn't there anymore." The girl frowned. "You've been lying, haven't you? Did Mama scold you? I can explain for her if you want."
Emma's shoulders were tense along with Norman's look. But all of the sudden, they looked calm.
"Sorry, Serephina. We were just telling scary stories to each other but got carried away." Emma gave the girl a smile. Serephina couldn't tell whether it was genuine or forced. "And about Little Bunny, we just left her back at the gate. Maybe Conny was still there but we didn't get to see her."
They didn't seem like they were lying at all, but Serephina could tell that they were hiding something huge. It won't take long for them to tell someone else and spread it. But that's just speculation, not a fact.
"Then both of you better sleep now." Serephina grabbed Emma's wrist as she gave Norman a glare. "Next time you tell scary stories, make sure you don't scare crybaby over here. Got it, old kid?"
Crybaby? Old kid? Emma and Norman sweat dropped. With that, they could tell that Serephina was mad.
"Sorry, Serephina..." Emma apologized, Norman also mumbling a quiet 'sorry'. The brunette sighed before shaking her head.
"It's nothing, just don't scare me again."
