ANSWERING YOUR QUESTIONS (BULLYING MATT)

matt leans back in the driver's seat of the minivan, waiting for nick to find the next question to answer. he scrolls frantically through all of the answers from his instagram, before stopping and smirking at the screen. they've been filming their new car video for this friday, having left it until way too late to start, hence why they're just doing a simple q&a. so far, matt's found all of the questions sort of boring, and they've been sitting here for so long now that he's bored and just wants to go get food.

clearing his throat, nick sits up a little straighter and prepares to ask the next question. "okay, someone here asked: what's yalls relationship status?" he says, immediately causing matt to close his eyes in embarrassment. he resists the urge to both roll his eyes and sigh, before turning to his brothers to listen to what they have to say.

"well, the whole internet knows that i'm basically married," chris grins, holding up his phone to the camera to show them his lockscreen. it's a photo of rory smiling at the camera, almost as if she's already laughing. matt tries his best to keep his expression neutral — he's obviously more than happy for chris and rory, but seeing his brother so in love when matt himself gets absolutely no play is starting to become a little annoying.

"you're so whipped," nick chuckles. chris just shrugs, before lowering his phone and sliding it back into his pocket. noticing matt's silence, nick takes it as his turn to speak.

"i'm also taken," he says.

"by mr clean," chris chimes in, and nick leans forward to smach the back of his head.

"no, by skye, you idiot," nick retorts.

"well obviously," chris says with a roll of his eyes. "but you guys have both, individually, come up to me and said 'hear me out' and then pulled up a photo of him."

nick's cheeks flush red from where he's embarrassed to be exposed. he hits chris on the back of the head, causing his baseball cap to fly off of his head. chris mutters a quiet 'fuck you nick' as he leans forward in his seat to pick it back up.

"i don't blame you, mr clean is bad as fuck," matt pipes up, causing nick to smack a hand over his mouth to hide his laughter.

"bros so lonely that he's starting to become attracted to an animated guy from a cleaning ad," chris laughs, and nick raises his eyebrows.

"i dunno what's more concerning — the fact that mr clean isn't real or that he's a man," nick replies. matt just smirks, shrugging.

it falls silent for a second and nick looks back down at his phone, likely searching for another question they can answer. chris, however, shifts his eyes over to matt, a grin playing on his lips.

"so..." he starts, and matt already has to resist the urge to sigh. "nick's taken, i'm taken... what about you, matt?" he questions, and matt glares at his brother.

"i'm single, you dick," he retorts. "obviously."

chris just laughs at this, turning to the camera. "matt's not completely pathetic though guys," he tells the viewers, causing matt to roll his eyes. "he made out with some girl at a party a while ago but refuses to talk about it."

"maybe that's because i don't know who she is?" matt answers sarcastically.

"well, you haven't done a very good job at figuring it out, have you?" chris shrugs.

nick looks like he's going to join into the conversation, when suddenly all three of them jump in their seats at the sound of music suddenly blasting through the car's speakers.

i slam the door, i hit ignore, i'm saying no no no no more, i—

"shit, sorry guys!" nick exclaims, before his eyes suddenly sparkle with delight. "wait, this is actually a great time to plug maeve."

matt instantly stiffens, the memory of the blonde girl sitting next to him on the curb flooding back to him. he can't remember the last time he'd been that anxious, yet this girls' presence had calmed him down faster than anyone ever could. he thinks about that day — maeve in particular — a lot.

he'd been utterly shocked after stalking rory's comments and stumbling upon maeve's instagram account, only to find out that she has millions of followers due to the success of her debut single, feather. the song that's currently blasting through the minivan's speakers right this very moment. she's super fucking famous now, and he doubts he'll ever see her again.

the thought saddens him, and he knows exactly why.

nick switches off the music, leaning forward and talking directly to the camera. "this is my friend maeve's song!" he says excitedly. "you've probably all heard it by now, 'cause it's number one on billboard, but still, go stream it!"

chris nods his head in agreement. "shit's so fire," he comments, before quietly humming the tune. nick turns his head to the left, his eye meeting matt's.

"what do you think?" he asks, and matt shrugs.

"yeah, matt, what do you think?" chris asks with a weird and suspicious tone, and nick digs him in the ribs with his elbows. matt just shrugs again.

"the song's really good," he says finally, blowing out a hot huff of air. he's not even sure why he's nervous about answering this, since it's not like maeve remembers him anyway. probably. who knows. he doesn't know which would be better, honestly. "if i was her ex, i'd be hella embarrassed," he added.

chris lets out a laugh, nodding.

"same," nick agrees. "if someone wrote a song like that about me, i'd probably never show my face ever again."

matt shakes his head, pushing out the inside his cheek with his tongue. "i'd never give someone a reason to write a song about me," he answers casually. "unless it was a good one."

nick raises his eyebrows, giving chris a knowing look that matt doesn't understand. he shakes his head, ignoring whatever seems to be going on between his brothers. after a second, nick reaches for his phone and begins scrolling through the questions again.

"okay, next question!"
