A Glimmer at the Door of the Living

(Remember to Vote and Comment as it Does a Lot for Motivation Seeing That You're Reading)

It took a moment, a moment that felt like it extended into eternity for the team to realise what happened. Clark Kent had returned to the world of the living, and many people from across Metropolis. Scientists outside the Scout Ship looked up in shock seeing a strange shirtless man floating above them, a nerby police officer drew his firearm memories of the last time a flying unknown person came to the City, and Lois Lane breathed out, her mind not processing the sight of her love.

The newly resurrected Clark flew to one of the last places his mind remembered, the shrine dedicated to Superman. Damaged and a statue shattered during the fight with Doomsday, his clouded mind could barley comprehend what was happening. Why did his face look like his? What were these pictures? What was this place? Raced through his mind.

Quickly the team arrived on the scene, well the superpowered members at least as Bruce had to make his way on foot. Each member lined up seeing Clark Kent had returned, smiles on their faces and delight overwhelming their brains.

"Clark" Y/N spoke, taking a step forward, breathing out as he didn't think. it had been years, years of loneliness working time and time again as Superman tirelessly, trying to live up to the legacy Clark had set for him and now he was back. "It's me" he said, trying to jog the memories of his fallen brother who only narrowed his eyes and tilted his head in confusion.

"Something's not right" Y/N said as he could see it, the slight tensing of the muscles, the way his eyes moved from person to person taking in every detail. Clark was using his x-ray vision to view all of the members present, his ears absorbing every sound within a ten mile radius. All overwhelming his still healing brain at once.

"He's scanning us" Victor pointed out, as his advanced body could see what was happening. Suddenly something happened, Victor's whole body began to twist and contort, twitching and its forcefully raised his left arm.

"Victor, Victor" Barry tried to say worried as Victor's arm now forcefully transformed into a missile launcher. Every member of the team looked at Victor confused and worried as he tried to hold back his arm, barley able to keep it down as it kept pushing against him.

"It's my armor's defense systems! It senses danger! I can't control it" Victor called out as the weapon now pointed towards Clark and fired blasting apart the Superman memorial further.

Clark simply moved to the side avoiding the projectile, and he looked the heroes with anger flooding his brain. He was running off basic instincts, and his lizard brain saw danger, and wanted that danger dealt with.

"Kal-El NO!" Diana called out, as Clark powered up his eyes glowing bright red. Quickly Clark fired two shining beams of pure heat, more powerful than before as the Mother Box had super charged his cells. The beams collided with Victor, whose body instantly folded his other arm into a shield that absorbed the beams, and briefly deflected them off into a nearby police cruiser causing it to explode.

Before Victor's shield could give out, Y/N moved in front of the mechanical man. Firing off his own beams of heat which met with Clark's. Both Kryptonians stood their ground as Clark poured more and more endless power into his eyes, the collision creating a light so bright it blinded everyone else around them. Right before Clark was about to win the beam struggle, he stopped the projection.

"He's confused, he doesn't know who he is!" Diana called trying to rally the rest of the team together. Y/N stood in place, almost scared and shocked at what was happening, memories flooded his mind. The last time he had to fight a Kryptonian, what he had to do.

Clark picked up the head of the statue of Superman, and turned towards Y/N. Clark threw the boulder sized object at him. Y/N was in too much shock to react and it was Diana slicing the head in two with her sword looking back at Y/N breathing out as she needed him to focus at this moment.

"Arthur, Y/N, we need to restrain him!" the Amazon called, rallying the Atlantean who charged forward with quintent at the ready. Clark however, easily punched Arthur away with so much force it created a shockwave sending him back. Diana quickly moved in and whacked Clark in the face with her shield, who in return retaliated with a punch to the stomach sending Diana flying backwards.

All the while Y/N watched, his hands shaking in fear at the thought of what he might have to do.

Victor quickly moved up, and fired a blue energy blast at Clark which caused him to stagger ever so slightly. Using the brief moment, Diana unraveled her lasso and threw out towards Clark, who easily caught it in his fist which the golden lasso wrapped around. Diana then with all her might, pulled Clark towards herself causing the Kryptonian to slowly step forward. But Clark then began to pull Diana towards him, the Amazon Princess digging her feet into the stairs of the memorial standing her ground.

"Kal-El. The last son of Krypton" Diana began, the lasso slowly taking hold of Clark's mind and whispering what he once was to the man. "Remember who you are" she added, Clark looking down in confusion. "Tell me who you-" before Diana could finish Clark used his other fist and forcefully pulled Diana towards him and caught her by a part of her armour. Arthur then swung his quintent downwards which Clark also caught, with Victor flying forward and attempting to tackle Clark down but to no avail.

All three super individuals using all their strength to push Clark back.

Y/N finally chose this moment to act and charged forward, ducking beneath Victor and tackling Clark's stomach. Getting his teeth and yelling, summoning all of his strength. The concrete beneath them began to crack and star itself apart as Clark was pushed back, each step heavy and causing more and more cracks. They almost reached the pillars containing names, the three team members looking on in amazement as Y/N kept pushing and pushing.

Barry decided it would be this moment to join in the fight, hoping to catch Clark in a chokehold. Striking a pose, Barry zipped towards the fight with blue lightning bursting all around him. Y/N could see Barry, he wasn't as fast as the speedster, but he could still see him moving. But as Barry ran around, Clark saw him. His head turned and he could see the speedster, Clark was faster than Y/N, but not as fast as Barry.

Clark then flung both Diana and Arthur off of his person, and buried Y/Ns face into the concrete beneath them. Finally he kicked upwards and sent Victor away turning his attention to the speedster.

As Barry ran towards Clark, the Kryptonian swung a heavy fist towards him which the speedster was barley able to duck under and tripped over his own feet. As Barry rolled along the floor, Clark jumped up and then slammed back into the ground creating a shockwave that sent Barry tumbling back into the pillars containing the names of the deceased killed in the Black Zero incident.

Y/N picked himself up, seeing this fight go by quickly, and ran upwards to try and assist. He restrained Clark by grabbing both of his arms, to which Clark simply swung his head backwards and proceeded to deliver punches towards Barry. Barry was able to avoid each punch which shattered the monuments. But eventually, Clark knocked Barry down, and flew into the air lighting his eyes ready to end the speedster.

But before this could happen, a shot collided with Clark's face. Local military forced guarding the Scout Ship, all exited their armoured vehicles and began to open fire on this who they believed to be a Rogue Kryptonian. Every bullet that collided with Clark shattered on impact or deflected off.

Right before Clark could ignite his eyes once again, Y/N flew upwards and sucker punched Clark sending him back slightly cracking his own jaw by moving moving it, still not saying a word.

"I'll lure him away from the city" Superman called out to the rest of his team, and flew away with such speed it caused a shockwave knowing Clark would follow him.

Y/N's heart pounded as he raced above Metropolis, Y/N's every thought a calculated attempt to draw Clark away from the city's vulnerable populace. The wind howled around Y/N, and he glanced back to see Clark closing the distance with terrifying speed. Clark's eyes burned with a fierce light.

"Clark!" Y/N shouted over the roaring wind, hoping against hope to reach some part of he once considered to be his brother. "Remember who you are!"

But Clark's only response was a thunderous boom as Clark accelerated, nearly overtaking Y/N in an instant. The ground below blurred into a tapestry of lights and shadows as Y/N pushed himself to his limits, feeling the pressure of Clark's approach like a physical weight.

Y/N banked hard, skimming the tops of skyscrapers, trying to keep Clark's attention on Y/N. Suddenly, a sonic boom exploded behind Y/N as Clark caught up, Clark's fist narrowly missing Y/N's head. Y/N twisted in mid-air, delivering a sharp kick to Clark's midsection, but it felt like striking solid steel. Clark barely flinched.

In the next moment, Clark retaliated with a backhand that sent Y/N spiraling. Y/N regained control just in time to dodge another strike, countering with a powerful uppercut that snapped Clark's head back. Both Supermen then flew straight at one another, Y/N hoping to knock Clark out, while Clark went for the kill. When they collided, the impact created a massive shockwave, sending ripples of kinetic energy through the air and triggering alarms throughout the city. The force of their clash caused the windows of all nearby windows to shatter.

As Clark recovered, Y/N quickly flew downwards, picking up two people who in harms way of the falling glass before flying back up to meet Clark.

They grappled and struck, a blur of motion and fury, until they flew around the Daily Planet Y/N hoping the sight of the building would possibly jog Clark's memory.

Inside the Planet, Perry White looked through his window with shock. "Great Caesar's Ghost Not Again" he said, taking off his glasses and moving out of his office. "Alright everybody time to evacuate get of the building, NOW!" he roared with reporters gathering their belongings and moving towards the stairs.

The two Kryptonians landed atop the newly constructed rotating golden planet, an attempt to give the city something to look up to and began to trade blows.

The metal groaned under their weight as they continued their brutal exchange. Clark's blows were unrelenting, each punch resonating with the power of a god. Y/N ducked under a swing and drove Y/N's fist into Clark's ribs, but Clark's retaliatory punch landed squarely on Y/N's jaw, sending stars dancing across Y/N's vision.

Desperate, Y/N used the globe's rotation to his advantage, swinging around it to land a solid kick to Clark's chest. But Clark recovered almost instantly, grabbing Y/N by the throat and lifting him, off his feet. With a savage grin, Clark wrapped Y/N's own red cloak around Y/N's neck, tightening it with a vice-like grip.

Y/N struggled, gasping for breath as Clark's grip constricted. The edges of Y/N's vision darkened, but Y/N forced himself to focus, clawing at Clark's arm with diminishing strength.

"Clark... don't...," Y/N choked out, Y/N's voice barely a whisper.

Clark's eyes flickered for the briefest moment, but his mind was too clouded with rage and an urge to fight. With a final, brutal yank, Clark hurled Y/N from the globe, sending Y/N hurtling back towards the Superman Monument. Y/N crashed into the base with bone-jarring force, the impact cracking the stone and leaving Y/N sprawled in a heap.

As Y/N lay there, pain radiating through every fiber of Y/N's being, Y/N looked up to see Clark descending slowly, Clark's expression cold and unyielding. Clark landed beside Y/N with a heavy thud. Reaching down, ad with a swift, brutal motion Clark twisted and dislocated Y/Ns left shoulder with a sickening pop. Agony shot through Y/Ns body, a raw searing pain that made his vision blur slightly.

As Clark prepared to beat into Y/N, out of the corner of his eye he spotted someone which his hatred concentrated on. Those ears, that symbol, feint memories of this Batman flooded Clark's mind. He remembered fighting, and Batman beating him into a pulp, and his brain focused on that hatred.

Before Clark could zoom towards Batman, Victor was the first to try and stop him. Charging into Clark to which the Kryptonian did not move an inch, Victor tried everything he could roaring his thrusters to full power and extending multiple arms to hit into Clark which did nothing. Clark easily grabbed Victor with one hand, and threw him away like he were nothing. And Clark continued his march towards Batman.

Arthur and Barry were not, Arthur leaping at Clark from behind while Barry ran at him at super speed from the front. Before the two even made contact however, Clark simply moved to the side slightly. Causing Barry to tumble into Arthur, sending both of hurling backwards with smoke emanating from Arthur as his body was not built for such speeds. Both of them crashing into the ruble of the Superman Monument.

All that was left between Clark and Batman, was Wonder Woman. Who stood tall while glaring down the Kryptonian who approached her. "Please don't make me do this" she whispered, hoping some God was listening.

As Clark approached, Diana brought her bracelets up and prepared to slam then together to create the shockwave. But right before she could, Clark sped over and separated her arms to either side. Diana was then met with a headbutt from Clark, causing a small shockwave and Diana reeled back in pain. But, Diana slammed her own head forward causing Clark to reel back. But this only seemed to annoy him.

Hovering above the air while still holding Diana, Clark slammed his head against hers with full force. Burying Diana in the concrete below. And he flew over to Batman.

Clark hoovered above Batman for a brief moment, allowing those memories to enter his clouded mind. He saw it, the way this Bat beat into him, the gas he used, the terrible things Batman did. And he hated them.

Clark began to heat his eyes up, glaring down at Bruce with grit teeth.

"Clark" Bruce muttered, trying to get through to the man he knew was still in there. "Clark, no!" right as the beams fired, Batman raised one of his gauntlets which absorbed the heat. But the blast was so powerful, it sent Batman hurling backwards and colliding with a nearby police cruiser. His gauntlet charred and burnt up which he ripped off. "Clark no" Bruce said as he saw the Kryptonian begin to stalk towards him. "This world needs you!" he said, only to be met with another blast of heat vision which was blocked. But the intensity of the heat was so strong, it began to burn away at the metal, Bruce could feel the heat inches away from his face.

"Clark!" a new, feminine voice cut through the chaos, running onto the scene causing Clark to halt his attack. Lois, having visiting the monument everyday, had finally come to see Clark Kent, the man she loves return to the world of the living. "Clark" she said, almost to convince herself to what she was seeing was real. "Please" she said, her appearance causing Clark to take in deep breaths and his mind slowly began to clear.

Clark floated down to Lois, looking at her puzzled with a tilted head, he knew this woman, he just couldn't put his finger on it. "Please" she said, stepping closer to Clark Kent who floated down to her. "Please, just go, let's go" she whispered, tears dripping down her face. And Clark and Lois shot off flying away, with everyone watching.

Diana and Victor moved over to Y/N, who was holding onto his dangling arm which flopped as he hung onto it with his other hand.

"We did it" he said, nudging onto some rubble to support his back. "We brought him back" he said again his body sheering with pain.

Diana wordlessly moved behind him, and traced her hands over his back feeling his wounds through his costume. "This is going ton hurt okay?" she asked, as a warrior she knew exactly what to do in this situation.

"Just do it" Y/N said, closing his eyes, anticipating the pain that was to come. With a quick snap Y/N yelled out as he could feel his bones realigning and his arm able to be moved freely, even Victor thought it looked painful.

"Better?" Diana asked with a smile.

"Better"

But this small moment of peace was cut short, as a Boom Tube opened not far from their current position. Steppenwolf had heard the activation of the Mother Box, and he had come for his great prize.

"He's here" Y/N said, standing to his feet and moving his arm to try and get into fighting shape.

"The Motherbox" Diana began, looking to Victor. "Where is it?"

The Mother Box was currently with Silas Stone, who was in his lab preparing his devices and tools. He had a plan, he knew Steppenwolf was coming and the team of heroes were in no state to fight him. He typed and flipped switches as as he prepared to activate, stepping into the an enclosed glass case. He then saw the alien, Steppenwolf, slicing his orange energy axe through the blockage and minimal security parameters put in place.

Steppenwolf stepped into the room just as Silas closed the security door, sealing himself in with the Mother Box.

"Give Me the Mother Box!" Steppenwolf roared, brandishing his axe.

Victor then landed in the room crashing through the roof. Standing between his father and Steppenwolf. But as Victor prepared to make his stand, he saw the device his father was activating. His internal systems warning him of the danger this device presented, a superheated Electron laser able to reach temperatures of three pint five million Kelvin.

Victor looked on, seeing what his father was about to do. "No, no, no" he began, moving towards the glass box. "Dad wait, don't!" he said reaching towards the box, but it was too late as the laser activated. The laser collided with the Mother Box, unable to pierce its alien metal but super heated its core. The blue laser bounced across the enclosure, shredding every last atom inside, including Silas who remained still and gave his son a comforting look.

Silas Stone was torn apart, atom by atom.

Steppenwolf advanced as the device deactivated. His axe he whacked Victor aside and punched his way into the container. He looked upon the final Mother Box with a pleasing look, his exile would soon end and he would once again take his place among the New Gods.

Picking up the Mother Box, he turned to see the arrival of Y/N, Diana, Arthur and Barry. He could fight them, it would perhaps be amusing. Looking at the Box Steppenwolf looked at the team and smiled.

"So Begins the End" he said proudly, as a Boom Tube opened and took him away.

"Victor?" Barry asked seeing his friend, and zoomed over to him as Y/N walked over in concern seeing he was hurt.

"Are you okay?" the Kryptonian asked as Victor stood up, still in shock, his mind racing to understand what just took place.

"He's dead" was all Victor said, as he limped towards the container where his father perished.

"What?" Barry asked in confusion.

"My father, I didn't save him, I couldn't" Victor Stone began to cry from his one human eye as his mind finally set in stone the events that took place. His mind raced through possibilities, what if he had been faster, what if he had used this weapon, what if.

Y/N stepped forward, and gave Victor the only thing he could offer in this moment to try and ease Victor's pain. A hug, a hug just like Clark had hugged him when he took his own fathers life. Victor cried, his tears soaking the red cape, but slowly, and surely. He accepted the hug from Superman, a simple human gesture, to try and make the world feel less lonely.

Author's Note

And there we go, another chapter done. So sorry it took this long, I was extremely busy with Uni work and my dissertation, then I spent about a month celebration and drinking but now here we are. Do hope this was okay.

Most of this chapter was a fight scene, and those aren't exactly my best side of writing so do hope it was alright. Hoping to get this arc all finished up soon.

Fun Fact about Silas' death, Zack Snyder confirmed the way he dies with the colours and stuff, is a direct reference to Dr Manhattan, pretty dope.

Anyway,

What was your favourite part of the chapter?
