Dil to pagal hai
Dil Deewana Hai

🤍

"Anabia are you done packing?" Anabia saw her mother standing by the door of her room. She gave her a nervous smile and pointed at her suitcase. She was still not halfway.

"I can't decide what to take with me mumma, dil chah raha sab kuch lejaon," she sat on the bed and Mrs. Rehman came forward to help her out.
(I want to take everything.)

"Your baba said Its going to be really cold around this season, you have to keep warm clothes tumhey to thand bhi itni lagti hai," She took out her shirts and replaced them with sweaters and jackets.
(You feel cold a lot.)

They were going on a family trip with Afandis to Hunza. The Afandis and Jaffars had this custom of going to a trip together once a year. They had not been able to go last year but Yusuf had been adamant to go this year. The trip was planned to be of a week. They were leaving tomorrow and Anabia still wasn't able to finalize her packing.

"Now get up and pack your toiletries and stuff, also your jewelry?" Mrs. Rehman reminded her and she nodded rushing to her vanity.

She was very eager for the trip. More calm on the fact that Haider did not go on these trips anymore, he used to when they were kids but in the past years, he had engrossed himself in work and couldn't make it.

She had been evading him after their last meeting. It was a month to that. She had requested her father to not force her to go ask for his help in studying.

Mr. Rehman had never been a strict parent. In fact, both her parents were sweet and had never imposed anything on Anabia. She was a single child, so they had been very careful and polite with their upbringing. She was never a bad child. She just had problems focusing on studies whereas she managed to make it out in the end and Mr. Rehman just wished for that.

🤍

"Huda ek week ka plan tha ek mahiney ka nahi! Itna saman ku pack karliya tumne," Anabia laughed looking at an exasperated Yusuf who was loading their Land Cruiser with luggage.
(Huda we planned for a week not a month!)

"Larkio ka itna hi saman hota hai tum chup karke kam karo apna," Huda dismissed playfully slapping his back. They were waiting by the cars as Yusuf was loading their car with the help of driver.
(Girls have stuff to carry, you shut your mouth and do the work.)

"Haider kaha reh gaya?" Anabia heard Mr. Ibrahim's concern and wondered looking at Huda,

"Haider bhai bhi sath ja rahey hain?"

"Yeah, mama ne pata nahi kesa manaya bhai ko wo zid kar rahey they nahi jana," Huda answered causing Anabia to make bizarre face.

(Where is Haider?)
(Haider bhai is also going with us?)
(Yes, I don't know how mama was able to persuade him.)

'Meri bala se aayen na aayen,' Anabia grumbled settling into a lawn chair.

Just then, driver opened the garage and a sleek black Range Rover pulled in, "Lo aagya Haider! Let's get going, Yusuf give me the keys," Mr. Rehman walked towards Yusuf. He had declared he was going to drive himself and the youngsters should go together while the old people would travel calmly without any bother.

Yusuf then pushed Anabia and Huda into the backseat of Haider's Ranger Rover and sat in the passenger seat. They had prepared for road travel and not going on the plane because it was what had the actual enjoyment.

Anabia glanced towards Haider's direction. He was clad in a black sweatshirt and pants. She noted that she, too, was wearing a black sweatshirt and regretted not changing into something else.

🤍

"Yaha se right!"

"Nahi left sorry," Haider glared at Anabia from the rear mirror as she told them the directions to a food Dhaba nearby. They had arrived in Gilgit and everyone was feeling hungry so they decided to stop by a nearby restaurant.

"Yusuf, take the phone from Anabia and look at the map," he said and Yusuf took the phone from Anabia's hand. He now sat in the backseat with Anabia as Huda had requested for the passenger seat. She wanted to make better videos from the front.

Haider tightened his hold on the steering wheel glancing in the mirror as Anabia scowled at Yusuf who whacked her head playfully. These two aggravated him to hell. Couldn't they act like adults and not kids? He grumbled looking at the road trying to dismiss their bickering from behind.

He had controlled himself because he wanted all of them to enjoy the trip. He did not like loud voices and chirping but he had to endure them. They had played songs the entire way and had the fun of their lives. A few times Haider had tried to put it off but looking at the sulky faces of these three he had decided to just tolerate it for once. And they were taking advantage of the fact. He peeked in the rear mirror and exclaimed,

"Stop fighting you two and tell me the directions Yusuf," his harsh tone made Yusuf straighten up and Anabia shut her mouth moving away from Yusuf.

The next few minutes to the Dhaba went quietly as the three didn't want you to make this driver anymore angry. They were aware that they were testing his patience.

"Finally," Huda exclaimed as they reached the restaurant 'Desi pakwan'. The three of them scurried out making Haider shake his head at them. He noticed the weather was extremely chilly outside so he decided to grab his leather jacket from the back. He stretched his muscles and joined the family. Their parents had already arrived.

He sat beside Anabia who veered around to give him a stiff look but didn't say anything. Haider watched her closely. She had braided her hair, few strands framed her face. He noticed her cheeks were going flush with cold and she was caressing her hands talking to Huda. He looked around and saw this place had no indoor seating.

He released a breath and relaxed in his seat. Why did she not carry a jacket with her? He wondered unknowingly.

He later shook his head checking his phone for any pending mail. While Mr. Rehman gave orders everyone chit-chatted with laughs. Haider just sat quietly looking around. Most of the time noticing the girl beside him. He didn't know why she intrigued him this much and lately, she had been on his mind too.

He looked up and his eyes caught the people on the table in front of theirs. A few young boys sat with cigarettes in their hands. He clenched his teeth noticing two of them watching Anabia with lustful eyes as they sat in front. He watched Anabia laughing with her hand in her mouth as she looked at something on her phone. He stared back at the boys with a dark look and they averted their gaze.

"Yusuf, change seats with Anabia," he declared causing Anabia to look up at him.

"Why?" she questioned in astonishment.

"Get up Yusuf," he exclaimed in a hard tone ignoring Anabia while Yusuf looked at his brother squinting his eyes. He looked behind and saw the slug boys group and nodded standing up from his seat and coming around to Anabia.

Anabia whined standing up and coming across to sit in front of Haider, where Yusuf sat previously.

"Ab mere sath bethna bhi gawara nahi unko."
(Now he can't even bear sitting with me.)

The dinner was served a few minutes later and Anabia looked at the karahi and biryani with water in her mouth. She was quick to grab her plate and fill it with biryani. Haider watched her each step as she took a fork and dug into her biryani. Who ate rice with a fork? Weird girl.

"Oumph!" Anabia waved her hand as the rice probably burned her mouth.

Haider poured cold water in a glass and brought it to her mouth who took it hurried trying to dissipate the heat. She coughed later and gulped down the water as Haider made sure she did not spill it holding the glass firmly.

Anabia sighed in relief when the burning sensation vanished. She then noticed Haider was holding the glass and she moved back making him retreat. She glanced at him and he had no expression on his face, he took out karahi for himself.

"Be careful," he just uttered.

She focused on her food not concentrating more on what had just happened. This kharus insan just helped her out tho.

🤍

Haider looked around, trying to figure out where Huda and Anabia had disappeared. They had informed they were going to the restroom and went to the back of Dhaba and he saw the area had no lights. He then noticed the group of boys laughing as they got up and moved in the direction the girls had gone. Without a moment's hesitation, he chose to follow them.

He reached the back of the dhaba and saw Anabia standing near the restroom door. He glanced at the boys, who were now standing by the steep hill, lighting cigarettes. Haider walked over to Anabia and positioned himself in front of her, shielding her from their view.

"Apko bhi restroom jana hai," she questioned Haider who just gave her a nod. She tried to move away from him but he stepped near again, making sure she was not visible to the guys. Even though they had not looked at her after he gave them a death stare, he just felt the urge to hide her. He was shocked himself, he had never ever felt this strong urge to protect anybody.
(You want to go too?)

"Huda mar gayi ho andar?" she went near the washroom door and knocked lightly.
(Huda are you dead?)

"Wait a moment Anabia aa jaongi bahar," Huda shouted from inside and she moved away.

Haider glanced down at her small form when she turned away from him. He noticed she was fondling her hands together, she was probably feeling cold. He took off his jacket and put it around her.

Anabia yelped at the sudden intrusion. She darted when he put his leather jacket around her and pulled it together so it did not fall. Anabia was too stunned to react.

The jacket engulfed her completely and Haider felt relief from the fact.

"Ye kia hai?" she managed to croak out.

"Wear it," Haider responded calmly.

"I don't want it," Anabia tried to remove the jacket but Haider held her hand, forbading her to remove it. She narrowed her eyes in his direction.

"Mujhe nahi chahiye."

Haider ignored her.

"Mene kaha mujhe nahi chahiye ye," she tried to push him away but he held her wrist.
(I don't want.)
(I said I don't it.)

(A/N: theeke mujhe dedo me rakhlu gi jacket bhi banda bhi🥹)

"Mene tumhari ijazat mangi kiya?" He spoke fondling his thumb on her wrist and she looked into his charcoal eyes.
(Did I ask you for permission?)

"Jab me apko pareyshan nahi kar rahi to aap mujhe ku tang kar rahey hain?" she seethed at the scary looking man.
(When I am not messing with you then why are you?)

"Just take it Anabia, you are cold," he uttered lightly making her wear the jacket. She gulped looking at his face. He was too close. She could smell his expensive cologne. She peeked at his serious face while he buttoned up the jacket, his hard features were relaxed. She noticed he had grown his stubble a little more, making him look even fine. Her eyes went to his Adam's apple and she swallowed looking away.

Calm down girl.

Anabia shuddered when his warm hand came around her neck and he pulled her braid out of the jacket, fixing her hair. She felt air stuck in her throat. What was he doing?

Haider carefully tamed her beautiful hair and looked at her in awe. Her hair felt even prettier from near. He felt a weird burst of emotions when he watched her engulfed completely in his jacket. She looked kind of cute.

"And phir aap kahege I was acting like a pampered kid," she mumbled putting him out of trance and moved away.

"I didn't mean it like that Anabia, you-"

"AGH! my stomach," he was cut off by Huda who barged out of the washroom holding her stomach,"I think something is wrong with it." Anabia rushed to her and took her back while Haider released a breath.

Why was his heart thumping unevenly? Fuck.

🤍

They reached Hunza by night and traveled to Eagle Nest, they were going to stay there and explore the city after watching the sunrise at the incredible eagle nest. The place gave a fabulous view of Hunza Valley with its breathtaking sights. They had booked a resort nearby. It had small cottage houses with a garden.

The families now sat in the garden laughing and having their most needed chai by the bonfire. Haider's eyes unknowingly stayed on Anabia as he sipped on his tea. He took out his phone and decided to check his emails meanwhile and distract himself from her. She was 5 years younger than him, he did not want to create a mess in his life. She was opposite from somebody he wanted to be with. He should stay far from her as much as possible.  She was capable of bringing chaos to his calm life and the fact did not set well with him.

🤍

"Hello? Yeah." Haider was taking a work call when he came out of his room into the garden for better wifi signals. His eyes went to the garden and he saw Anbaia, Yusuf, and Huda still sitting by the bonfire and chatting with desserts in front of them. It was around 2 in the morning. The night was brittle and cold. What were they doing this late?  He wondered walking near them.

"Yes sir, I have moved the meeting to next week, also about the documents you asked-"

Haider put the phone down as he saw Anabia shivered pulling the shawl against her tight, her breath coming out in visible puffs. She extended her small hands to the fire and Yusuf pulled her chair closer to the flames.

Haider felt his chest tighten. He knew there was nothing intimate in the gesture, there was never something intimate between them but he couldn't help the flare of uneasiness inside him. Why did he feel like this? He was not able to pinpoint the reason.

"Sir? Are you there?"

"I will call later," he cut the call and strode away. His mood was ruined. He had realized one thing just now that he was not irritated but fucking jealous.

It was no good.

Not a bit.

🤍

The next morning, Anabia woke up greeted by glow of the sun filtering through her window. She quickly got up and slipped into a pink skirt and a soft white sweater.

The garden outside was alive with flowers and Anabia couldn't resist the urge to take pictures. She took out her phone carefully capturing the scenery.

She wanted to take an outfit of the day picture. She looked around the area, positioned her phone on the chair, and put a timer. She moved back facing the camera and twirled her skirt with a smile. Before the picture clicked she saw Haider approaching and grabbing her phone.

Startled, Anabia looked up at him. "Ye aap kia kar rahey hain?" She asked a hint of surprise in her voice.
(What are you doing?)

Haider was dressed in a grey turtleneck that clung perfectly to his frame, accentuating his broad shoulders and well-defined muscles. He had just stepped out of shower, his damp, wavy hair falling effortlessly into place. Anabia tried to take her phone from his hand when he hauled it up in the air.

"I will take the picture for you." He proposed.

"Nahi, shukriya. Me khud karlugi," she jumped to snatch her phone but he pulled it even up making it tough.
(No Thankyou, I will manage.)

"Apko masla kia hai Haider bhai! Ku mujhe pareyshan kar rahey hain," she whined holding her head in annoyance at his odd behaviour.
(What is your problem Haider bhai? Why are you disturbing me?)

"Why are you ignoring me?" he questioned.

He wanted her to argue with him, to taunt him like she always did. His eyes lingered on her attire, noticing how her hair flowed freely in the breeze. As a few strands came across her face, she tucked them behind her ear and gazed at him in irritation.

"Apko kia hai me jo bhi karun!"

"Naraz ho mujhse?" he asked, his voice soft. Anabia shot him a glare, her fluffy cheeks puffing up in anger. Haider fought back a smile—she looked even cuter when she was mad.
(What's it to you?)
(Are you angry with me?)

"Me ku naraz hungi aur wo bhi aapse."

"To ese mu ku bana rahi ho."

"Meri marzi!" Anabia shrieked.

(Why would I be angry with you?)
(Then why are you making faces?)
(My choice!)

"Mera phone wapis karein," she put her hand infront of him and demanded,"aur aap mujhe pareyshan nahi karein please."
(Give me my phone back, and please don't disturb me.)

"Mujhe to karna hai pareyshan," Haider smirked. He was clearly enjoying himself.
(But I want to.)

Anabia jumped up to grab her phone, but Haider gently placed a finger on her forehead, pushing her back.

"Ow!" she whined, growing even angrier. "Kia masla hai apko!"
(Whats your problem?)

With a teasing chuckle, Haider handed her the phone, and she snatched it from his hand before rushing away. His eyes followed her, admiring her long, shiny hair as she ran inside.

"Mera Sara ka Sara masla tum Ho, Anabia Rehman."

(My entire problem is you, Anabia Rehman.)

🤍

They spent the day exploring historic Altit and Baltit forts, immersing themselves in the rich heritage of the region. As evening fell, they returned to the cozy cottages where they had stayed the previous night.

On the last day of the trip, they eagerly planned a visit to the scenic chair lift in Naltar, anticipating the breathtaking views that awaited them. Naltar chairlift was a popular tourist attraction located in the Naltar Valley of Gilgit Baltistan. The chairlift offers a paranomic view of the surrounding landscapes ascending above the Naltar River and snow-capped mountains.

Anabia was both excited and nervous. Though she was scared of heights, she was eager to experience the thrill of the chairlift. The weather was perfect for it, adding to her anticipation. She looked at her outfit for today. She was wearing burgundy long coat and pants with cream coloured turtleneck. She had curled her hair at the ends. She wore her jewelry and took her pictures to post them later.

Over the past few days, Haider had gone out of his way to annoy her at every opportunity. She often felt his gaze on her, boring into her, and the more she tried to avoid him, the more he seemed to bother her. It puzzled her how the dynamic between them had shifted—she used to be the one teasing him, but ever since she decided to stop, he had taken on the part. His behavior was more like that of a mischievous teenager than a 27-year-old mature man.

'Kharus insan' she mumbled remembering what he had done last night. They were having snacks when she took her favourite packet of nimko but he snatched it from her and refused to return it. When she whined, he scolded her and asked her to have something else. It was clear that he was forcing her to pick a fight with him.

🤍

The electronic chairlift was going to ascend over the Naltar Valley, the weather was cloudy making Anabia more enthusiastic for the ride. She was supposed to sit with Yusuf as Huda was terrified and didn't want to try.

Anabia looked for Yusuf as her turn came. He was nowhere in sight.

"Huda Yusuf kidhar hai?"

"Yusuf bhai mama ka phone lene gaye gari se," Huda answered making her knit her brows.

"Me kiske sath bethu?"

"Madam aage jaake khari hojayen aap," the person in management asked Anabia, and she sough.

(Huda, where is Yusuf?)
(He has gone to bring Mamas phone from the car.)
(Who do i sit with?)
(Mam please move forward.)

"Tch! Yusuf bhi na." She groaned inwardly.

Anabia was startled when she saw Haider pushing her lightly toward the chairlift station.

"What?"

"Mujhe akele nahi bethna Haider bhai," she tried to speak.
(I don't want to sit alone.)

"I am going to sit with you," Haider said and she looked at him.

"Nahi me Yusuf ka wait karleti hun." she tried to reason and go back but he held her firm.
(No, I would wait for Yusuf.)

"It's our turn," he grabbed her hand.

Anabia yelped as Haider helped her sit with a bit of pressure and the chairlift started moving.

Everything happened so quickly that she didn't have time to fully process it. Her breath shuddered as she noticed her hand in his warm, large hand. She pulled away sharply, and he peeked at her with mild surprise. She scooted further away, sitting straight and gripping the handle tightly.

Haider stared at his hand, still feeling the chill from where her small, soft hand had been. He clenched his fist and let out a sigh.

Anabia, gripping the handle, tried to take in the view with one eye open. Haider suppressed a smile at her evident nervousness.

"Why you you not looking around, you were so excited about this," he spoke and Anabia tried looking down but closed her eyes the next second. It was scarier than she had imagined.

"I will just feel it," she reasoned making him chuckle.

These past few days had made him acknowledge the fact that he was attracted to her. It was the last thing on list but he could not control it. He enjoyed annoying and riling her up and it was so easy to do that. She made it easy.

Not to mention how he had noted the car number of those guys who were staring at Anabia. He was going to take care of those thugs personally. He did not understand why he had this weird protective urge but it just made him angry when the thought of someone looking at her the wrong way crossed his mind. He was confused and concerned about all the weird feelings.

"Ya Allah ye itni daraoni ku hai" Anabia didn't dare look down again. All of it was so overwhelming. Haider sitting with her and the scary chairlift. She regretted deciding to come. She should have just stayed back with Huda.
(Why is this so scary?)

The chairlift suddenly jolted and Anabia screamed grabbing Haider's arm. Her heart thumped against her chest when she placed her head on his arm and shut her eyes. She felt like she was going to die. The crisp cold breeze touched her and she shivered scooting closer to Haider. She did not want to fall.

Haider glanced at Anabia, who clung to his arm with fear in her eyes. Her long hair cascaded over her, while she pressed herself closer to his side.

Haider's throat went dry, his heart stuttering at the closeness—this was the first time a girl had ever been this near to him.

He felt her hands trembling and, without a second thought, he wrapped his other arm around her waist like a protective seatbelt, pulling her securely against him.

"It's alright...Biya, you are safe," he whispered softly into her hair.
