- I do love symbolic covers. Having a humanizing element, that is not a human, is much more effective for my skillset but I will be willing to do more model covers.

- I adore discreet covers for spicy books. It's a nice trend on the indie publishing front so by extension, despite writing on Wattpad, all my covers are created with the self-publishing industry (and what I know of it) in mind. Discreet covers also tie in nicely with symbolic covers and the results can be so, so DELICIOUS.

I have an entire swipe file dedicated to symbolic, paranormal covers alone. They can be so beautiful. And having a swipe file is helpful for inspiration.

- Typography-based covers have my heart and soul. The fact that I can make the text interact with the background elements is quite fantastic, even if it's a simple/underrated thing for most.

- I love covers that attract the eye. I tend to bypass covers that show a scene, unless the scene is executed really well and still attracts readers. Depicting a scene, to me, should be less important than trying to get readers to click on your story. Which is why I tend to focus on colours, fonts and eye-catching elements.

- I love taking a little, but important, detail and spinning a book cover out of it.

I recently changed the cover and title for my book, Prurient, a Carlisle fanfic. To his vampire nose, the FMC smells like lavender and lilies and is basically a really attractive smell for him. So, I took that detail and renamed my book to Lavender Kisses and redid a lavender-kinda cover.

My skills are not up there yet but I'm seeing progress, even if it's slow.

I'm also looking into doing covers for awesome books that inspired me (and already have awesome covers) for practice.

Tell me more about your design preferences, as a DIYer or reader, in the comments below!

- HEAVEN
