Ray POV
"Come out! Police!" a deep voice yells after the front door slams open. I pull my legs up tighter against my chest.
"Why are you here?" Craig shouts back. I hear him stomping down the steps.
   "Craig Vanner?" the police ask.
   "Yes. Why are you here?"
   "We have a report that you raped your adopted daughter. For now, you're under arrest. I'm going to have to ask you to put your hands behind your back. Anything you say can be held against you." I hear some rustling and thumping before the door opens again. Karen starts shrieking after that.
"My husband! What are you doing?" she shrieks.
"Ma'am, you'll have to come with us," the officer says again. The door closes again before footsteps start to walk around the house. After a few minutes, they come into the bedroom I'm in.
"Are you Ralynn?" a female office asks. I nod, and she comes over to me. "We got a call from a boy down in Miami. He said you called him."
"Yeah. Payton," I tell her.
"He sounded very concerned."
"Maybe."
"Alright. Here, lets get you up." She reaches her arm around me and pulls me up, then hands me my crutches. I follow her out the door silently and get in the police car behind her.
   "Someone is going to come pick me up," I tell her as she starts to drive off. "Should I tell them to meet us at the police station?"
"Payton's mother?"
"Yes."
"We told him when he called to have her go right to the police station and when we were done with questioning she could take you home," the office tells me. "If that's alright with you, of course."
"Yeah, that's great." I turn my head to look out the window as she keeps driving.

Payton POV
I make it back over to the groups by the bus. Avani is gone, I realize, and Sam is still standing by the bus with Chase and Noen in front of him. Everyone else in on the bus, I guess, so I head inside, too.
"What happened?" I ask Anthony after I sit down next to him. He sits there for a second not saying anything, just looking mad.
Eventually, he sighs and looks over at me. "He was already seeing Avani when he got with Ray."
"What?" I shriek. A few heads on the bus turn to look at us. "What?" I whisper yell.
"That's what he said."
"Why would he do that?" I ask.
"I don't know."
"That's crazy!"
"I know," Anthony sighs. "So, she called you?"
"Yeah," I groan. "It's so bad."
"What was going on?"
"The couple that adopted her took her straight home from the hospital. They knew her dad."
"Oh sh-"
"I know."
   "That's bad."
   "Yeah," I say. "So, the guy raped her."
   "Oh, sh-"
   "I know."
   "That's terrible!"
   "I know that, too!" I whisper yell to him. "She couldn't do anything about it, though. Her leg!"
   "Oh, sh-"
   "Stop trying to say that," I groan.
   Anthony sighs. "So, what did you do?"
   "I called the police after I called her, then I called my mom, then I called her again and talked to her until the police got there," I tell him. "I don't know what's going to happen."
   "Well, me either."  He looks out the window. "Oh, Sam is leaving. I wonder where he's going."
   I get out of my seat, go to the row behind us, and look out the window. Jaden gets up from his seat in the row next to me and looks, too.
   "Where is Sam going?" Anthony asks Chase and Noen as they get back on the bus. The doors close behind them, and they sit.
   "I told him to get an Uber back to the hotel," Noen says, frowning.
   "Oh?" I ask, sitting back down.
   "Maybe he can share one with Avani," Chase mumbles, slumping down in a seat.
   "And they can continue to cheat on Ray," Noen groans.
   "Oh, I already told her," I say. "She said she'll send him a text and break up with him."
   "How's Ray doing?" Jaden asks from beside me.
   "Uhm," I mumble. "Yeah, not good. I don't know if she wants me saying anything, but she won't be staying with the people who adopted her again."
   "But you already told me," Anthony whispers. I look back over at him. "I'll tell her that you told me."
   "Yeah." I bite at my nails.
   "So, something happened with them?" Noen asks. I nod and hear him mumble a string of curses. "I'll ask her about it later, then."
   "Hey, where'd Sam go? Did someone kick him off the bus or something?" Josh asks from the back of the bus after pulling his earbuds out.
   "I did," Chase calls back to him. Josh shrugs and leans back in his seat.
   "So, what's for lunch?" Jaden asks.
