Ray POV
"Huh?" I whisper to myself. Well, I thought it was to myself.
"I told you. Say hi to me, and I'll stop." I look up quickly, startled to see Sam grinning in the doorway.
"Sam? What are you doing here?" I ask with a smile as he walks into the room, sitting down in the chair beside my bed. I sit up and swing my legs over the side of the bed so that I'm facing him.
"Well, we have to leave today to go to Miami and then to Houston, and I know I stopped by yesterday with some of the boys, but I just wanted to come see you. It's just me." Sam gives a little shrug like it's not a big deal, just me, but it's so much more than that. I jump off the bed and pull him into a hug.
"It's just you," I scoff with a small laugh, looking down at him. "You're more than a just you."
"Thanks." He smiles back up at me and then leans against my stomach, hugging me again.
"I'm glad you came." I ruffle his hair a little, and he laughs. "I needed a hug."
"Well, it looks like you got one." Sam smiles at me when I pull away, sitting back down in front of him on the bed. "I got a bus down here, and I have about a half of an hour until I have to leave to catch the bus with the boys. They left on the tour bus a little after me and are coming by to pick me up."
"That's a lot of work just to see me again." I lean back, picking at the thin blanket and avoiding eye contact.
"You're worth it. Getting to see you is worth it." I look back over at Sam, and he smiles widely.
"That's...thanks. That's nice of you." I nod and look back down, hiding my blush.
"I thought we could talk while I was here," he says.
"'Bout what?" I ask. "Anything in particular?"
He sighs, folding his hands and unfolding them quickly. Swallowing. Scratching at the back of his neck.
"Sammy, are you alright?" I ask, tapping his leg with my toes.
"Are you...interested in anyone? Like, interested like you want to date them?" Sam asks quietly, looking up at me from under his long eyelashes.
"I mean, I wouldn't say I have a crush on anyone, or I'm that close to anyone. I know some nice guys, but I think anyone I think of somewhat like that thinks of me in a different way." I look back over at him. "Why do you ask?"
"Well, I was just thinking, maybe. It was just a thought. I talked to Noen, and he said to go ahead and ask while we were still here. It's nothing, really..." Sam trails off, looking away.
I nudge his leg again. "What is it, Sammy? My interest has been peaked."
Sam sighs again. "I was wondering if maybe you liked me like that." He swallows, giving his arm an awkward scratch. "Because I was thinking that I might like you like that."
"This is a lot," I whisper. He nods.
"You don't have to say anything right now. If you don't feel the same, I get it. It's okay. I just wanted to let you know in case we didn't get to see each other in person for a while." He folds his hands together again.
"Sam...I never said I didn't feel the same way." He looks up at me, so I stand up in front of him and he stands with me.
"So, do you?" he whispers.
"I-I think I do," I murmur, putting my hands on his shoulders and pulling him down so that our faces are about an inch apart. "I think I do, Sammy."
"Can I kiss you?" he asks quietly. I nod, and he leans down and places his lips against mine softly. My heart soars, and boy, am I glad that I don't have to have that heart monitor on anymore because it would have been going crazy.
Sam moves his lips slowly against mine, parting them gently with his own. His arms wrap around my waist and pull me up against him, so I wrap my arms closer around his neck.
"Gee whiz, Sam. Do you know how to kiss," Noen whispers. We startle and pull apart quickly. I tuck my red face into his chest as he glares at Noen. "What? Don't look at me like that!"
"Then don't interrupt something important!" Sam replies, clearly somewhat aggravated with Noen.
"Hey, I was the one that told you to ask before we left. Don't be giving me stuff for it now." I hear him shifting his weight on his feet. "Hey, Ray. Sorry for interrupting."
"It's fine," I squeak, still embarrassed. Noen laughs as Sam rubs my back.
"The bus is here. The guys are at the gas station across the street getting drinks, so you still have a good five minutes, Sam," Noen tells him. "I'll go now. See you on the bus."
"See ya," Sam replies as Noen walks out. I pull my head out of his chest finally, and he smiles at me again. "You look cute when your face is red."
"That wasn't very nice," I mumble.
"Sorry baby Ray." He leans down and starts kissing me again.
When his five minutes are up, both of us have rumpled hair and red faces. He smiles and says goodbye again before quickly exiting my room.
I smile, even though I know there are tears in both of our eyes.
