Prologue
Previously on Just that Girl...
The Gallagher's and I went to my custody hearing, and the judge determined my Aunt to be an unfit guardian, and she lost custody of me. Afterward, Aidan and his parents said that they wanted to become my foster family. And, of course, I said yes. Being a part of Aidan's family was a dream come true. Aidan and I continued to work on our music together. And now, we were at the airport, getting ready to fly out to Toronto.
And now...
Aidan's P.O.V.
We had been in the air for about two hours, and I started listening to my demos on repeat. Ever since that night at The Blue Moon Theater, Serena and I were inseparable. Everywhere we went, we took pictures and made it known to everyone that we were dating. I leaned my head back in my chair and adjusted the neck pillow, slightly beginning to doze off as the music continued to play.
The scene of Serena and I onstage at the theater replayed inside my head. It felt like only yesterday I saw her onstage blowing me away with her cover of Kings and Queens. Just thinking about that made me smile and made my heart pound like a drum. I was brought out of my thoughts when I heard a small ding go off, meaning we could walk around the cabin. I opened my eyes and took a small sip from my can of Sprite.
Out of the corner of my eye, I could see parts of Serena's blonde hair strewn on the armrest. I smiled, knowing that she had fallen asleep right next to me. Her beautiful blue eyes were shut, and she looked so peaceful. How did I end up with a beautiful and talented girl like her? Unconsciously, I started stroking strands of her hair, and I hoped that she could feel my presence even in sleep. "Sleep tight," I whispered.
While I was still stroking her hair, I opened my phone and started playing a video of Serena singing. A few days before we had left for our flight, Serena went live and did covers of her favorite songs. I managed to film a good thirty seconds of her singing Blue Neon before she caught me. She did such a good job with it, and I loved that she put her own style to it. "Are you stalking me?" Serena asked in the video. "No, I just wanted to get a video of my beautiful girlfriend singing," I answered, chuckling behind the camera before shutting it off.
Hearing her sing made a grin spread across my face, and I couldn't wait to introduce her to the cast of Umbrella Academy. I had a feeling that they were going to love her. I went back to listening to my music and eventually fell asleep listening to a Finneas song. A few hours later, another ding went off inside the airplane, and out of the corner of my eye, I saw that we were starting to descend.
"As we prepare to land in Toronto, the captain asks that you return to your seats and make sure your seats and tray tables are in the upright position. We'll be landing shortly, and thank you for choosing to fly Air Canada," The flight attendant said over the loudspeaker. Serena woke up shortly afterward and rubbed her tired eyes. "Hey beautiful, did you sleep well?" I asked once her blue eyes met mine. "I slept alright. I might take a longer nap when we get to the hotel, though," she answered.
I wrapped an arm around Serena's back, and I felt her gently put her head in the center of my chest. Every time Serena and I cuddled together. I could feel my heart start to race a thousand miles an hour. Despite only dating her for a few months, I already knew I loved her. I wanted to tell her that so many times before, but I was worried that I would scare her off or she wouldn't feel that way about me.
"Hey, when we get to the hotel, there's something I want to give you," I whispered to her. "What is it?" She asked, looking up at me. "It's a surprise," I answered, slightly glancing down at my backpack where the gift was buried underneath piles of essentials. We got closer and closer to landing on the runway of the Toronto airport. I could tell that Serena was beginning to grow nervous because of her tight grip on the armrest. Her knuckles becoming whiter the harder she squeezed. I placed my hand on top of hers and gently squeezed it. "Sorry, I'm just a little nervous," she admitted.
The plane finally landed on the runway, and when we got off, we called an Uber to take us to the hotel. "I can't believe we're here!" Serena smiled as she grabbed my free hand. "Wait until you meet the cast. I know they're going to like you," I smiled. Serena rested her head on my shoulder as we walked through the airport and out to the front. A black Lexus pulled up in front of us, and my parents put our luggage in the trunk.
"You know, I always wondered what it would be like to go to Toronto," Serena said as she got in the backseat. "It's a nice place. I think you'll like it. We're going to be busy for the most part, but we're going to have fun, I promise," I smiled, grabbing Serena's hand. She looked over at me and lightly squeezed it as the car took off, and we made our way to the hotel.
