Chapter Thirty Three

The day of the concert finally arrived. And I was so excited for the night that lay ahead. At school, people were asking us if we were together. But, we ignored that question even though I was blushing so hard when people kept asking. We left school two hours early because we had to get ready and do a rehearsal before the concert at the 8:00 pm. Aidan's mom did my hair and makeup, and when she was done, I stared at the mirror in awe.

I changed into the outfit and boots Aidan gave me, and Aidan's mom took pictures of the two of us. "Get closer. I need to get you both in the picture," Aidan's mom smiled. I was trying so hard not to blush as Aidan and I got closer to each other until our shoulders were touching. Aidan wrapped an arm around the small of my back, pulling me closer to him. This made me blush even harder.

"Perfect," Aidan's mom smiled as she snapped several photos of us. The four of us got in the car, and I started to get giddy as we got closer to the theater. "You want to do a quick Instagram story?" Aidan asked, holding out his phone. I nodded and got out my phone as well, and Aidan and I started filming.

"Hey guys, what's up? Serena and I on our way to The Blue Moon Theater for rehearsal! Hope to see you guys there tonight! Please come out! Bye!" Aidan and I said while looking at our phones. Aidan and I pointed our phones at each other before the video ended, and by the time we ended the videos, we pulled into a parking spot right across the street from the theater.

"This is it. Our lives could change by the end of the night," I said softly to myself as we walked into the theater, and the owner showed us to the stage where we got set up and started practicing. Halfway through Aidan singing I love you, his manager entered the room, and we kept practicing. Aidan was strumming his guitar while I was playing the piano part of Why Don't I. It only lasted halfway through the song, so that gave me the freedom to grab the mic and walk towards the edge where Aidan would be.

Time seemed to fly by so fast, because when I looked at the clock, the time was 7:45 pm. "People are already starting to arrive!" The owner entered, panting as he spoke those words. Aidan and I looked at each other with surprise, and very quickly, we set down our guitars and went backstage as we waited for the crowd to form. It was very cramped backstage, but there was enough room for us to sit down whisper to each other as we heard people arrive. I quickly poked my head for a split second to look at the crowd, that was slowly but surely forming.

I could feel my mouth become dry, and my palms were beginning to sweat. Suddenly, I felt someone gently touch my shoulders and start to massage them slightly. "Don't be nervous. You're going to do great. Just be yourself," Aidan whispered. I nodded slightly and took a sip from my small water bottle. The crowds started to chant out our names, and we knew that was our cue. I took a deep breath as we walked out and approached the microphones. The cheers and screams of the people were growing louder than ever before.

"Hey, guys! So glad you guys could make it here tonight! We've got a few songs for you guys, along with a special performance or two later!" Aidan said into his mic. I looked out into the crowds to see if anybody I knew was there, and in the distance, I could see Vanessa and Ethan smiling and waving at me. But, I could also see Ashley, Alexa and Isabelle were standing towards the back, shooting me cold glares. But I was no longer afraid of them. I just glanced over to another part of the crowd.

"So, without further ado, let's get started! This song I'm currently in process of producing, it's called, "Without You," I watched from backstage as Aidan started to sing and strum the beat on his guitar, and I swear I felt my heart melt inside of my chest as he continued to sing. A few girls in the audience started to sing along, and I soon joined in. "Cause you loved me today, but you loved me yesterday. So, tell me when will it all be over," I sang softly. Aidan glanced over at me for a second and smiled.

He's so cute. I hope he feels the same way I feel about him. After that, he sang For You, 4th of July, I Love You, and another of my personal favorites, Blue Neon. The lights turned a dark blue, and I could see the silhouette of Aidan singing into the mic, making my heart pound inside my chest. "This song goes out to a special girl," Aidan said, looking over at me before singing into the mic.

In my mind, flowers surround her name.
The ghost of her is what I chase.
And as soon as I get close, she's far away.
But it seems she's been here today.

Blue neon skies
Lights up her eyes
In a dreams, I memorize
All the details of her face that night

In our dream, we flow hand in hand.
If you could see, you'd understand
All the stars scattered like sand, across our little wonderland

Blue neon skies
Lights up her eyes
In a dreams, I memorize
All the details of her face that night

Blue neon skies
Blue neon skies

Blue neon skies
Lights up her eyes
But as soon as I get close, I realize
She's but a dream of mine tonight.

The audience erupted with applause, and I started clapping along with them. Aidan smiled before setting down his guitar and walking towards the mic. "Thank you guys so much! It means a lot to me that you're here! Now, you all have seen me on Instagram with a girl. I know. Feel free to "Ooo," about it. But she is my friend and an amazing singer. So, I give you, Serena Waterbury,"

I let out a slow deep breath before walking on stage, and the crowd erupted with applause once again. Before Aidan walked off the stage, he leaned in close and whispered to me.

"Good luck, you're going to do great,"
