Chapter Four

"Sorry we're a little late. I forgot something back home," Vanessa said as I got into the backseat of her car. "That's okay, at least your here," I said as I dug through my backpack in search of my notebook. Finally, I found it, and I looked at the little amount of progress that I had made on my song. "Are you excited, Serena? Your crush is coming to our school!" Vanessa teased. "I don't have a crush on him. I like him as a fan," I sighed.

Vanessa and Ethan looked over at each other. I think they knew that I was lying because their faces were twisted into devious smiles. "Ookay," they both said at the same time. I lightly hit Ethan's shoulder, and we took off, hoping to get to school before Aidan showed up. "Did you see the live stream last night? He told a girl that he liked her username! Well, I'm assuming it's a girl," Vanessa asked.

She's talking about SereneCinderella, aka me. "Wow, I wonder if she goes to our school," I said, trying to hide the fact that she was talking about me. Soon, we reached the front of the school, and I could see there was a crowd that was starting to form, and I knew that they were there for Aidan. "Don't you want to stay back and see him get out of the car?" Vanessa teased as we walked into the building. "Guys, this isn't a red carpet movie premiere. It's just school," I sighed as I put in the combination for my locker.

I was trying my hardest to act like I wasn't freaking out about this, but it was nearly impossible with the thought that Aidan could potentially be in one of my classes. "OH MY GOD! IT'S AIDAN GALLAGHER!" One of the cheerleaders screamed. All the girls in the hallway ran outside as I poked my head out from the corner, and sure enough, I caught a glimpse of Aidan getting out of the car and waving to people.

The crowd quickly followed him as he walked inside the school, and I could see people were snapping pictures of him with their smartphones. A lot of girls were telling him that they loved him and that they follow him on Instagram. "Alright guys, get to class!" Principal Bishop said from the doorway of his office. Scattered sighs came from the crowd, and I watched as Aidan walked over to his locker. I tried to resist the urge to look at him some more, but it was hard because he was so gorgeous.

"Serena, we need to talk," A voice said. I looked behind me, and I saw Ashley Steinfeld, the most popular girl in school. "What do you want, Ashley?" I sighed as I grabbed my biology textbook from my locker. "I want to give you a little piece of advice. You need to stay away from Aidan. He's mine," She said, getting closer and closer to my face. "Why, because he's your boyfriend?" I asked with a hint of sarcasm. She flipped her hair back, and her cold glare met my eyes once again.

"You listen to me right now, Waterbury. If you look at Aidan, think about him, or even say 'hi' to him, then he is going to find out about your anorexia," Ashley threatened. "I had anorexia two years ago, Ashley. Why are you still making fun of me for it? Are you trying to get me back into starving myself again?" I asked. She didn't answer. She just flipped her hair and walked away.

She can act like she is Aidan's girlfriend, but she can't threaten me. I tried to shake away the thought of Ashley telling Aidan about my past eating disorder. But I couldn't stop thinking about it. What if she does tell him? Will he care? Will he make fun of me? No, Serena, stop thinking about that and get to class. When I finally got to Biology, all eyes fell upon me, and I started to wonder why they were all staring at me.

Out of the corner of my eye, I could see that they were not looking at me at all. I turned around slightly, and I saw Aidan standing right behind me. "Oh, I didn't know you were there!" I gasped. He let out a small chuckle and smiled at me. That smile hit my heart like a meteor hitting earth. I got into my seat on time, and Mr. Sutherland walked in on cue and walked straight over to Aidan.

I looked over my shoulder, and I saw the two of them talking, Mr. Sutherland pointed over to me, and I started to wonder what he was telling Aidan. "Thank you," I heard Aidan say as he walked away from him. He walked down the long aisle dividing both sides of the room, and he came to a stop at my desk.

"Do you mind if I sit next to you?"
