Chapter Five
I couldn't believe it. Aidan freaking Gallagher wanted to sit next to me, out of everybody in the class. I tried to answer his question, but the words would not come out. Instead, I nodded slightly, and he took a seat next to me and set his bag down. Stay calm, Serena. Stay freaking calm! I looked over at Aidan and smiled slightly at him. He smiled back at me and pointed to my hoodie, silently telling me that he noticed the initials I added to it.
"Alright, take out your biology textbooks and turn to Chapter Five. We will begin learning about the difference between Mitosis and Meiosis," Mr. Sutherland said as he went back to the front of the room and began the lesson. I pulled out my textbook and turned to the next chapter. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Aidan looking through his backpack, hoping to find his biology textbook.
Without a second thought, I slid my textbook in between us, and he looked up with a small amount of surprise. "We can share the textbook," I whispered to him. "Thank you," he whispered back. All through the lecture, I couldn't concentrate on the words written on the pages. All I could think about was Aidan and how awesome it was that he was sitting right next to me. Mr. Sutherland continued his lecture, and I felt my mind drift off into space. I heard Aidan singing inside my head once again, and I started to smile as I heard the music continue to play and he sang, "I love you."
I then felt a tap on my shoulder, and I was pulled back to reality. Aidan's green eyes met mine, and he pointed over to the board. "Ms. Waterbury, are you paying attention?" Mr. Sutherland asked with a hint of irritation in his voice. "Y-yes, Mr. Sutherland," I answered even though I was lying. "Oh, really? Then tell me the difference between Mitosis and Meiosis,"
Oh god, If only I paid attention in class. "Mitosis is focused on growth and repair. Meiosis is focused on cell reproduction," Aidan quickly whispered into my ear. I repeated what he said, and surprisingly, I got the answer right. When Mr. Sutherland continued reading through the textbook, and I wrote down a small note on my notebook and turned it slightly so Aidan could see it.
Thank you, Aidan. You didn't have to do that.
He grabbed his pencil and quickly wrote a reply and, pushed the notebook back to me.
No problem. :)
