-Abomination-
(season two, episode four)

The moon was shining onto Joey's bike. It covered it entirely.

Usually, if Joey couldn't sleep, especially at three in the morning, she would just put on some music and drift off. This night was different. Joey threw her backpack onto her shoulders and hopped on. Starting down the dimly lit street.

Something about tonight made her want to leave.

Maybe it was instinct or just a random impulsive thought, but she really couldn't take being in her house all night.

The wheels turned on the bike as she pedaled. And they kept going until she arrived at a particular house.

Jenson's house.

It was beautifully built and the brick was a dark maroon. The roof had dark shingles that reflected the moon and street lamps.

Joey stepped off her bike and walked towards the door, clenching her fists by her sides.

When she gripped the handle her hand slipped off. It was covered in a weird goo.

Joey cringed, wiping her hands onto the brick. But then she was a lizard type figure in the corner of her eyes. She quickly pushed the thought away.

"Nice house, Jenson." She mumbled, raising her fist to knock instead.

Her hand shook as it got closer to the door. In the distance a light turned on inside the house.

"Joey?" Jenson asked, pulling the door open.

her leg moved forward to take a step but it gave out, making her fall to the ground.

"Oh my god-"

Her whole body went numb. She couldn't move a muscle. "What is up with your house?" She groaned.

"Do you want me to drag you inside?" He asked, sorta smiling at how dumb this all was.

"No. Call Scott.." Her voice wavered.

He nodded pulling the girls phone out of her pocket.

Scott pulled into a clearing and got out of the car. Pulling Stiles along with him.

"What happened? Is she okay?" He asked, kneeling down to her.

Jenson nodded. "Yeah, I think."

"I can talk, guys. I just can't move." Joey scoffed.

"Can you move, like, at all?" Stiles asked, giving Jenson a look she couldn't figure out.

"Not one bit."

Her friends nodded. "Help me get her up." Scott placed his hands under her arms and pulled her up. Stiles grabbed her legs and lifted them.

"Take me home."

Before the boys could get her in the car, Jenson shouted. "What did you need before?"

"Oh, forget about it. It's nothing." She called out.

Joey's hands started to twitch.

"Hey! You moved!" Stiles cheered, setting her legs down on the seat.

"Not enough."

The trio sat on the flight of stairs, whispering to each other. Stiles had been racing back and forth between Scott and Allison. Communicating for them because of the circumstances.

"I'm so sorry about the other night. We'll get through this. I know because I love you. I love you more than... Oh, my god! I can't..."

Joey laughed at his reaction to those simple words.

"You and Allison just have to find a better way to communicate."

"Come on. It was either you or Joey, you lost rock paper scissors. Just- Is she coming to the game tonight?" Scott gave him pleading eyes.

"Yes, okay? Message complete."

"Tell us about your boss." Joey interrupted.

Scott looked around to make sure no one would hear and then continued. "He thinks Allison's family keeps some kind of records of all the things they've hunted."

"He probably means a bestiary."

"What?"

"A bestiary."

Scott's laugh filled their ears, "I think you mean bestiality."

"It's an encyclopedia of mythical creatures." Joey's hands smoothed down her frizzy hair after seeing Stiles stare at it out of the corner of his eye. The boy let out a small scoff at the action.

"How am I the only one who doesn't seem to know anything about this stuff?"

"You guys ares my bestfriends, creatures of the night or whatever, kinda my priority to know this stuff."

"We need that book, guys."

Joey rolled her eyes. "Obviously."

•.•

Joey's palms were sweatier than usual. Maybe due to the fact she had to steal her principals journal-book-thing. She tooks a deep breath and then walked towards Allison who was sat on the bleachers, watching the lacrosse game.

The girl slyly walked past Allison, swiping over the girls hand and grabbing the keys, giving her a small smile.

In the distance Matt watched her...

gaining speed he reached the girl and stopped her with his hand on her shoulder.

"Oh, Matt!" She said, fidgeting with the keys.

He smirked. "Where you headin'?"

She glanced to his camera, it was expensive, sort of out of character for the vibe he gave.

"Just the bathroom.." She glanced to the school behind her but then turned back to Matt. "Sorry, did you need something?"

"Oh, no. Just got curious." He glanced the camera, just as she did a few seconds earlier. "Actually- Can I take a picture of you?"

Joey could feel her heart beating faster, hell, she could hear it in her own ears. No doubt Scott could hear from the field.

"Are you a part of the yearbook club?" She asked nervously.

He smiled, sweeter than the smirk he gave her. "Totally."

Slowly, the girl nodded. "Quickly please."

The camera clicked softly and before he could respond she was out of there. Racing to the school.

A car was parked, lights on, in the parking lot.

She could hear cry's coming from it and as she got closer she could hear a familiar voice.

"Lydia?"

Lydia eyed the blonde from the drivers seat, rolling the window down a little.

"Hey... What's wrong?"

"Go away, Joey. I don't need anyone seeing my cry." She pleaded with tears in her eyes.

"Lydia, you're the last person that should be worried about people seeing them cry."

That's when Joey knew. She didn't love the girl in a romantic way. Not anymore.

"Why?"

She just loved how strong she was. How she treated the people she loved. Lydia was a guarded person but if you know her, she was so kind.

"Because you're beautiful. Inside and out."

Lydia dried her eyes and nodded. "I appreciate you, Jo." The girl scoffed at herself. "I treated you like shit for a while after we stopped being friends and I'm sorry."

Joey felt her own eyes start to wet. "I forgive you. Just don't do it again"

They both laughed at the small threat.

"I have to go, but don't beat yourself up, okay?"

She nodded and Joey was off.

Running into the school she ran straight into a hard wall-

"Joey."

Joey looked up at the speaker. Her whole body relaxed once she realized it was Stiles.

"Thank god. I've had a few weird minutes."

The boys eyebrows raised as if to tell her to explain further.

His eyes were so soft and filled with confusion. And suddenly nothing was holding her back.

"I realized that my stupid crush on Lydia is completely gone. And I don't know why i'm telling you this because we've kissed and this is probably hurting your feelings and-"

The rant was completely out of the blue and didn't make sense but the boy understood. He knew she had been holding in a lot of thoughts the last few days, some harder to understand than others.

He cut the girl off with a kiss to the temple and a hug. "You're not hurting my feelings. It's okay."

She sighed in relief. "Good, because Stiles i'm putting all of my attention into the only crush I actually have."

Stiles' cheeks grew pink.

"You, obviously. If that wasn't clear."

"Good to know..." The boy was pulled away from his thought by the keys making a noise in her hands. "Can we finish this conversation when we aren't in a really time pressing situation?"

She nodded.

The pair walked into the principal's office and gave each other one look before Stiles took the keys and messed with the drawer in the desk.

"Keep a lookout."

"Hey guys, funny seeing you here."

Erica.

"To late." Joey sighed.

Erica grabbed both of the teens by the wrist and pulled them out of the room.

"Can we stop for snacks?" Joey asked.

Erica scoffed. "Absolutely not."

It only took a few minutes to get to their destination, which apparently was the pool.

Derek stood further into the room, staring at the two teens. His eyes were filled with amusement.

"Joey, what did you see at Jenson's house?"

Her chest raised as she took a few breaths.

"I got laced with some goo," She shook her head. "But I didn't see anything..."

Derek laughed. "Try again."

Anger bubbled slightly in her chest. "I don't quite know what you mean, Derek."

"Try. Again."

His voice was angry and felt threatening, something Derek had previously tried to show her when he spoke.

"I saw a lizard."

Stiles' eyes widened. "Really? Because I the thing I saw looked exactly like a reptile."

She turned towards him. "Yellow eyes?"

He nodded frantically. "We need to start sharing this information, I mean- I knew you got goo-ed but seriously man, start sharing these things."

Derek raised his hand in a stop motion.

"Derek... You have this look like you've seen what we're talking about?"

A sharp hissing scream came from the staircase above them.

"Oh god."

Joey grabbed Stiles and jumped out of the way as it took Erica down quickly. Pushing her into the nearest wall.

A cutting noise caused Joey to start shaking with fear. "Derek, your neck." She pointed.

Even though she didn't like Derek's attitude lately, she still cared for him. The deep connection they had was pulling her towards him, so close she could smell the reptile on his neck.

Her eyes glowed a bright blue, causing Stiles jaw to drop to the floor.

"Your eyes!" He shouted.

The girl blinked a few times but they didn't go away. Derek started to drop.

Stiles caught him and called out for Joey to run with them.

"Embrace it, Jo!" Derek yelled.

A pressure was building in the girls chest, nothing she'd ever felt before.

Instead of acting on the impulse to fight, she ran with the boys, trying to get to safety.

"Call Scott!" She yelled back, catching up since they hadn't gone to far.

The phone fell out of Stiles' pocket as he scrambled to call. Trying to grab the phone, Derek flew into the pool.

Stiles hesitated to jump in and grab Derek but seeing Joey's frightened face and knowing his morals, he jumped in after him. Guiding the wolf to the surface.

"Jo, don't you dare try and fight that thing!"

She scoffed and her eyes glowed brighter. A lighter shade of blue than they were before.

She glanced towards Derek and he gave her a small nod. 'Do it.' He mouthed.

The creature hissed and waited for her to make the first move.

Joey pushed the building pressure out of her mind but before she could do anything the lizard was already launching itself at her.

"Joey!" Stiles called out.

The blonde dodged it and her eyes dimmed. But before losing all the light completely they gave the girl one final push. The urge to scream.

But before she did she grabbed some water from the pool and chuckled it at the lizard. Making it hiss and yelp.

Then, without thinking twice she let it out. A powerful gut wrenching scream that carried a blue mist. Knocking the creature to the side with a whimper. It gained its balance and ran out.

Her eyes grew heavier with every breath and just like the creature had done to Derek, she went down. This time passing out.

Stiles pulled Derek out of the pool and ran to Joey's side. Throwing his arms around her and pulling her into his lap.

"She's gonna be okay right?" He asked Derek, who he had sat against the wall.

"She should be."

"It was scared of the water, Derek."

He nodded. "Yeah, I think I know what it is now."

Scott then ran in, expecting to find some action but was met with a quiet room.

"Where did it go?"

"It ran away when-"

Derek coughed loudly to shut the boy up. "It's gone."

•.•

The group waited for Derek to regain control and then met outside.

"It's called the kanima." Derek said.

"what else do you know?" Stiles asked holding Joey up.

"It's a shapeshifter but it's not right. It's like a..."

Joey mumbled, "Abomination."

Scott called out as Derek's started to walk away.

"We need to work together on this. Maybe call the Argents."

"You trust them?"

"Nobody trusts anyone, that's the problem! While we're here arguing about sides, there's something out there killing people! And we still don't know anything about it!"

Derek's eyes went dark. "I know one thing. When I find it... I'm gonna kill it."

Then, he was gone.

"Is he serious?" Stiles asked nobody in particular.

Joey nodded as Scott began to talk. "We all know he can't make jokes... Ever."

"Guys, it looked familiar. Like I knew it."

Joey said, standing on her own.

"-Like a friend in a halloween mask. You know it's someone you know but you can't pick out a face." Stiles continued for her, noticing she still looked exhausted.

After what happened in there he wanted to tell Scott. But Derek shut him up. He noticed how Derek's eyes grew panicky when he almost revealed it. So instead of telling him now, he wanted to get more information.

Going against his previous words of sharing things.
