6,000 Years Ago . . .
─━━━━━━⊱✿⊰━━━━━━─
"Is there something that is bothering you, my diamond?"
Snapping out of her thoughts, Pink shook her head and then turned to face the two shorter gems behind her, who were awaiting her response. One of them, a pink spinel, was bouncing in her place excitedly, and the other one — though calmer — merely stood in her place silently, a gentle smile resting upon her soft features and her hands clasped together in front of her politely.
"Oh, (Y/n)! Spinel . . ." Pink only chuckled nervously and smiled down at the two before her, though it didn't quite reach her eyes like it usually did.
"Can I help you two with something? I've actually been quite busy recently, you know . . ." Pink trailed off, avoiding the eyes of both the spinel and mariposa gems that stared at her.
Curiously looking between eachother, Spinel scratched the top of her head like a typical cartoon character, earning an amused laugh from (Y/n).
"Well, we were wondering if you'd like to play any games today, Pink. Spinel's been growing rather bored recently, and I was hoping if you'd like to make some flower crowns again, just like we used to a little over a hundred years ago!" (Y/n) smiled, clapping her hands ecstatically as Spinel giggled from beside her and began to bounce in her place.
"Yeah, Pink! Let's play a game today!" the pink gem cheered, hopping up to the diamond and taking her hand in hers.
For a moment, Pink's smile seemed to falter, but she quickly fixed that before either of the other gems could notice.
"As . . . as fun as that sounds, Spinel," Pink began, slowly pulling her hand out of Spinel's grasp and taking a step back.
"I'm afraid that I can't today. Like I said, I've been really busy with my new planet recently, so—"
"Oh, well, maybe you could take us with you, then!" (Y/n) chimed in, her eyes sparkling with hope as Spinel gasped excitedly.
"Yes! Oh, please, please, please, please, please take us to your new planet, Pink!" Spinel begged, dropping to her knees comedically in front of the diamond and giving her puppy dog eyes.
Immediately, Pink's own eyes widened, and she looked away from the two; biting her lower lip as sweat trailed down the side of her face.
She couldn't bring them. It wasn't safe — especially with the whole war that she herself had started without anyone other than Pearl actually knowing.
"I'm . . . I'm sorry, you guys, but . . ." Pink winced guiltily the moment she saw the two gems visibly slump out of disappointment, ". . . I can't."
Not wanting to stick around and end up being guilted into changing her mind, Pink swirled around and began to make her way towards the warp pad. She cringed when she heard the familiar squeak of Spinel's footsteps begin to follow after her, yet she was quick to hide that expression away once (Y/n) twirled around and stopped in front of her; doing a small curtsey for dramatic effect.
"Why are you leaving so soon, Pink?" the mariposa asked, tilting her head to the side curiously and batting her long, curled lashes. "You just got here!"
"Yeah!" Spinel stretched one of her legs out over top of Pink and then brought herself next to (Y/n)'s side. "Stay a while longer, Pink! Play a game with us!" the pink gem said, her heart-shaped buns bouncing up and down atop her head with her.
Sighing, Pink shook her head and resisted the urge to just make a break for the warp pad then and there.
She couldn't do this. Not now.
"Here in the garden," finally began the diamond, forcing herself to smile down at the smaller gems, "Let's play a game!" The two physically perked up, and their eyes lit up as well as their diamond continued. "I'll show you how it's done . . ."
Kneeling down to Spinel and (Y/n)'s height, Pink lifted a hand up and booped Spinel on her nose, much to (Y/n)'s amusement.
"Here in the garden, stand very still . . ."
Spinel and (Y/n) shared a look with one another before grinning at their diamond happily and saying, "This will be so much fun!"
Pink smiled, and the duo's grins seemed to widen, because there it was: a smile in her eyes, and the sound of her laughter — that's what they were after, and they would happily do anything to see and hear it time and time again, no matter what.
"Now, you two stay there, okay?" Pink walked around the two gems, who turned around to watch her make her way up to the warp pad.
"You'll come back for us, right?" (Y/n) called out to the diamond, a playfulness in her voice.
Pink stopped, just on the last step, and she turned to the mariposa gem with slightly widened eyes and a smile on her face.
"Of course I will!" Pink called back, making (Y/n) smile warmly at her and causing Spinel to beam at their diamond.
"Okay! I'll be sure to keep your word for that!" (Y/n) added, cupping a hand around her mouth.
Laughing genuinely for the first time in a long while, Pink nodded towards the mariposa and stepped onto the warp pad; watching a familiar beam of light begin to surround her until (Y/n) and Spinel were no longer in sight.
After the war comes to an end, and the Earth is completely safe from the other diamonds' genocidal ways, she would come back for them. She had to.
It's not like Pink Diamond was ever really one to break her promises, after all.

(Y/n) thinks that she may go insane.
The marriposa gem doesn't know how long it's been since she's moved from that spot, but she does know that it's been over a decade — she could tell based off of the vines that had begun to grow around and encase her's and Spinel's feet. She could tell because all of the beautiful bugs that used to live in the garden had long since passed away due to the decaying plants that they relied on to continue living. It was only a matter of time, (Y/n) supposed, until she and Spinel decayed with the rest of the life around them eventually. It's been so long since they've seen any new, or even familiar, faces, and it's been so long since she's seen the pink eyes with diamond-shaped pupils in them that she used to adore so much.
Key word: used.
(Y/n) didn't know what was happening to her. To start off, her appearance was beginning to lose color, and her hair was getting messier and longer as the days went by. Her gem — once so vibrant and polished — had seemed to lose its color, too, and now it was dull, almost devoid of the life that (Y/n) once had the will to live.
Oh, yeah — (Y/n)'s mental state was slowly beginning to deteriorate, too. It's a part of the reason as to why she was so thankful to have Spinel with her over the past thousands of years, even despite the fact that they had both been stuck in the same spot Pink had ordered them to stay in, they still had eachother, at least.
That is, until today.
It started off normal, or course. Counting the seconds, standing alone, under the endless sky. Spinel's hair was as messy as it usually was since it started to become undone over the years, as was (Y/n)'s. Spinel was also still smiling, just as she had been when Pink left to go perform her diamond duties, though it was slightly strained. And (Y/n), well . . .
Let's just say that she wasn't trying as hard to remain optimistic about the whole ordeal.
"Spinel, I don't think she's going to be coming back anytime soon," the mariposa gem stated simply, this not having been the first time she had said this.
Spinel stiffened at (Y/n)'s words, and her smile seemed to falter slightly.
"N-no, (Y/n), I . . . I'm sure she's just been really busy, you know! Yeah! Besides this . . . this is how it works, right? Maybe — Hey! Maybe we're just . . . not doing . . . it right . . .?"
Silence engulfed the two after that; covering them both like a thick blanket and nearly suffocating them. If (Y/n) had to take a guess, she would think that her and Spinel would have died a long time ago if not for the fact that they were gems.
"Spinel—" (Y/n) inhaled sharply and finally, after thousands of years of standing in the same position, unmoving, allowed her arms to fall to her sides.
"Spinel, I don't think it's worth staying here anymore," (Y/n) admitted, making the pink gem go wide-eyed and whirl her head around to face the marriposa, shocked.
(Y/n) gulped. "I think . . . I think we should leave, Spinel. Pink . . . she isn't going to be coming back for us anytime soon, and—"
Suddenly (Y/n) stopped; her eyes going wide and her body going stiff as she visibly paled. Spinel quirked a brow at this and waved a gloved hand in front of her companion's face.
"(Y/n)?" Spinel spoke, sounding confused.
"(Y/n), what's wrong—"
"GET DOWN!"
Before Spinel could do anything, (Y/n) grabbed ahold of her wrist and brought her to the floor, just when a decently sized meteor had rushed past them and crashed into the ground. Spinel gasped in horror at this and quickly sat up as (Y/n) cried out:
"METEOR SHOWER!"
And with that, it all went downhill.
Scooping Spinel up into her arms, (Y/n) summoned her wings and flew up into the sky; narrowly avoiding yet another meteor — smaller than the first one — before beginning to make her way towards the warp pad.
Swerve after swerve, twist after twist; it went on over and over again until—
"(Y/N) LOOK OUT!"
It was too late; she wasn't fast enough.
Struggling out of her arms, Spinel pushed herself out into the open air and pushed (Y/n) away — a meteor shooting right through the pink gem soon after and poofing her, making (Y/n) gasp.
"SPINEL!"
As the mentioned gem's gem began to descend towards the floor, (Y/n) opened her wings and flapped them harshly before flying after her friend's gem — reaching out to it until her hand finally managed to grasp its edges just seconds before it could hit the ground and shatter. The mariposa grinned, tears leaking out of her eyes as she cradled her friend's gem in her hands gently, acting as if it were the most precious thing in the world.
(Which, to (Y/n), it was.)
"Oh, thank goodness . . ."
Falling to the floor out of both exhaustion and relief, (Y/n) inhaled deeply and looked down at the heart-shaped gem in her grasp, a sad smile tugging at the corners of her lips.
"Oh, Spinel . . ."
Trailing her thumb along her friends' gem's smooth surface, (Y/n) was close to letting out a another relieved breath when she stopped — feeling something cut into her skin to the point where it would have drawn blood if she had any.
No.
With widening eyes, (Y/n)'s (E/c) orbs looked over the surface of Spinel's gem quickly and thoroughly, only to gasp in horror at the sight of a fairly large crack that had spread out from along the side of Spinel's gem to the back of it.
No. No, no, no! This — this can't be happening! Spinel—
Letting out a sob, (Y/n) brought her friend's gem close to her chest and hugged it protectively against her. The meteor shower had long since come to an end, and now giant rocks of silicon and oxygen lay about the once beautiful garden that (Y/n) and Spinel called their sanctuary.
Hadn't the world taken enough from them?
"How's it goin', everybody?"
Apparently not.
Snapping her head up at the sound of a new voice, (Y/n)'s breath hitched in her throat as she whirled around, looking for the voice's source.
Luckily, she found it rather quickly, though she was surprised by what she saw.
Despite the glitchy and poor quality screen that hovered up in the air not too far from the mariposa gem, (Y/n) could faintly make out the image of what looked to be a . . . a human? A human boy? What . . . what was he doing using gem technology like this?
Wait.
Gasping, (Y/n) nearly stumbled forward due to her much her legs were trembling, and she squinted her eyes, not believing what she was seeing in the background that sat behind the human's form on the other side of the screen.
Is that . . . the throne room? Why — why isn't anyone doing anything . . .?
"I know you all might be thinking of me as the new Pink Diamond—"
(Y/n)'s breath hitched and the gem stumbled back; landing on her bum as she fell to the floor.
"What—?"
"—but you don't have to put me on a throne. I already have a rightful place, and it's on Earth!"
(Y/n) couldn't believe what she was hearing. Earth? Wasn't that Pink's planet? What — what was this human going on about . . .?!
"It's a beach house, where I live with my friends: Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl! As much as I love dismantling the empire and saving all your planets—"
The screen glitched out for a moment, and (Y/n) swore she was beginning to see red.
"—I can't wait to get home and spend some quality time with my friends—"
The connection was lost, then, and (Y/n) was left in silence.
"What . . .?" Suddenly, she giggled. And then she chuckled. And then she began to laugh, and soon she started to cackle. Her eyes were wide with something . . . something indescribable, and the grin that had long by now spread across her face was anything but friendly.
"Earth, huh?" Chuckling emptily after a moment of composing herself, (Y/n) lifted her gaze back up to where the transmission once was, and she smirked as she looked back down at the heart-shaped gem in her hands.
"Let's play a new game, shall we?"
For a split second, Spinel's gem pulsed — almost frantically, as if she were trying to tell (Y/n) something — but it only earned a wide smile from the mariposa in reply.
"Tell me, human:" A cheshire-like grin appeared on (Y/n)'s face, and a (F/c) light soon began to surround her changing form.
"What is a God to a Nonbeliever?"
As always, (Y/n)'s questions weren't given an answer, and a cackle seemed to echo about the cosmos.
Game number one: Hide and Seek.
Who will find who first, I wonder?

NOTES !
first chapter of the rewrite, woot woot! i hope you guys are enjoying this story so far, despite there being only one chapter out as of now, but still! i like to think that my writing has improved a lot, and i wanted to show it through this! to be completely honest, i thought it was a bit weird that some one, random meteor came out of nowhere and crashed down onto spinel in the original version of this book, so i wanted to fix that by at least making it if not a little more believable by saying that a meteor shower struck the two unsuspecting gems whilst they were in the garden. though i do still think i could have done something better, i couldn't exactly think of anything else that could lead to spinel's gem getting cracked, so this is what we're all dealing with in the end XD
see you guys next wednesday!
