i sat on a bench outside of my apartment, waiting for a certain person to pull up. i sat and waited for about 10 minutes, when karls car pulled up in front of my apartment complex. i walked to the passenger side of his car and got in.
"hey!" i spoke as i opened the door. "all set to go?" he asked, smiling over to me. i smiled back and nodded. he drove off and to our destination.
after garrett and klaas left that night on the beach and celestia and alex were trying to drown each other, karl and i were left by the fire. while the two were in the water, karl asked me on a date. i, of course, accepted and thats where we're going now.
"where are we going?" i asked him. i saw a smirk grow on his face, yet he said nothing. "cmon, im clueless here." i whined. "and you're gonna stay clueless until we get there." he looked over to me briefly, and grabbed my hand.
"im sure you'll like it though. i remember you saying something about liking this certain place." i looked over to him and confusion settled on my face. "well, that doesnt help much." i sighed. "im not giving you anything else, just wait for the surprise." karl chuckled.
"im not the biggest fan of surprises." i mumbled. "thats a lie." he laughed. "yeah, you're right." i chuckled. the rest of the ride was pretty silent, other then karls quiet singing to the songs playing from his phone.
he squeezed my hand lightly as we pulled into a field, just as the sun started to set. a giant white screen stood in the centre of the field. bright lights lit up the space behind the field and a huge ferris wheel barely peeped out from behind the white screen.
my eyes lit up as we got out of the car. "holy fluff!" i exclaimed as i took in the sight. karl walked up beside me and grabbed my hand, interlocking it with his own.
"i know that the outsiders is your favourite movie and thats whats playing tonight, so i thought it worked out well." he smiled down at me. "the movie starts in an hour and a half, so lets go enjoy the carnival."
we walked through all the cars and to the practically hidden carnival. the lights were exquisite. they lit up the entirety of the carnival and it brought me life. people cluttered the place and were all winning prizes and riding the different rides.
"where are we going? ladies choice." karl looked over to me. i looked around at all the different games and rides that were scattered around the carnival. "ferris wheel." i said suddenly.
we walked over to the giant line that was waiting to get on the ferris wheel. "stay right here, ill be right back." karl said quickly as he ran off. i waited patiently in line, thankfully people decided to wait until the line shortened to start waiting, so i was still pretty much the last one.
"beth, im back!" karl exclaimed as he walked up to me. he had a little teddy bear in his hand as he walked up to me. "for you, m'lady." he handed the bear to me. a smile was plastered on my face and i stood on my tippy toes to give him a hug and a quick kiss on the cheek.
we stood in line and moved up every few minutes. soon enough we were on the ride and slowly moving up. i gasped as we got to the top. the ride stopped as we got to the very top and i just examined the festival in awe.
"this is gorgeous, holy crap." karl spoke as he looked around. "it really is." i answered. i never took my eyes off the sight around me, taking in every inch of it, enjoy all of the lights and bustle.
"so, did i do well?" karl asked, looking over to me. "well? you did amazing!" i exclaimed. "this is genuinely one of the best dates ive ever been on." karl smiled at me.
i layed my head on karls shoulder and continued to watch the lights and sun set. "the suns almost fully down. the movie should be starting soon." i nooded to him and just continued to watch.
i felt him turn his head and place a kiss on my head. i looked up at him and quickly gave him a peck on the lips just as the ride began moving back down.
we made it back the bottom and began walking to the car again. "i now see why you brought the blankets and stuff." i laughed as we got in. he turned his car back on and set the radio to the channel for the theatre.
the lights at the carnvial went out and the normal drive-in theatre cartoons started playing. "ill be right back, im gonna go get some popcorn." he said with a smile. he left the car and i reclined my seat a little. i turned around and grabbed one of the thin blankets that was folded in the back seat and put it over myself while turning the ac up a bit.
karl came back within a few minutes and put the two bags of popcorn in the front while turning the back and grabbing the two cans of monster he put in the back.
he sat back down in the drivers seat and grabbed a blanket for himself while reclining his seat. "ive never actually seen this movie." karl said while turning uo the radio. "really?!" i exclaimed. he nodded. "oh god, you're gonna love it. you might cry, but thats besides the point." i laughed.
the movie began and i started whispering the first few words of it as it started.
"when I stepped out into the bright sunlight from the darkness of the movie house, I had only two things on my mind, paul newman and a ride home."
