i buried my face in my hands. "so you're telling me you havent slept in three days? not a wink?" i asked maribeth, who had facetimed me. "maybe an hour or so yesterday, listen, im not sure. ive been working on this paper and i cant seem to catch a snooze." she took he glasses off and dropped them on a random book before rubbing her eyes.
"this is why i dropped out of school." i propped my phone on my counter as i grabbed a glass of water. "you're no help." she sighed and dropped the pencil that she had been spinning between her fingers.
"okay, how about this. clean up your mess of schoolwork and get into bed. we'll sleep on call together. we can do this for a few nights if you need it, i can also help you with your work. id much rather you complain about the x-men storyline than your stupid philosophy essay."
"dont get me started on x-men. the only good thing about it is quicksilver, raven, and nightcrawler. well, scott and magneto are pretty cool too, same with storm." she said while picking up her papers, books, and various pens and pencils. now is one of the times i wished i didnt live in holland, only to help beth, since shes under such stress with her schooling.
"god, im a twenty two year old whos complaining about a marvel series and a philosophy paper that doesnt even matter in the long run. whats the point of philosophy anyway? im getting my degree in film and editing." maribeth questioned while placing a thick textbook on her desk.
"you didnt wanna take two math courses, so you decided on philosophy." i spoke before taking a sip of my water. "i wanna go back in time and-" her sentence was interrupted by a huge yawn. "smack my past self." she finished.
i chuckled at her and poured the rest on my water in the sink. "get your ass to bed, beth." she laughed a bit, but was once again interrupted by a yawn. beth sighed and turned off her laptop and setting it beside the textbook. she picked her phone up from off the floor and turned the light off in her office before closing the door and walking to her bedroom.
"i haven't even been in my bedroom for the past three days, god it feels good seeing this giant rectangular prism of quilts." she exclaimed. i laughed at her and walked to my bedroom. "see, ive barely left my bedroom in the last three days, i stream once a week, so i have tons of time to watch criminal minds." i jumped into my bed and crawled under the blankets.
"god, i envy you. y'know, as much as i love the walking dead, if i had that free time, i wouldnt be watching it. id most likely be watching american horror story or x-men. maybe even wandavision, i mean as confusing as the storyline is, its kinda good." she said while changing into sweatpants and a baggy ahs hoodie.
"is half of the reason wandavision is good because of evan peters?" i asked her while propping my phone up on a candle on my nightstand and plugging it in. "of course, why wouldnt it be? its evan peters for gods sake. i dunno bout you, but if he asked me out, i would drop everything in a split second." she daydreamed.
"hes thirty four, beth, you're twenty two." i stared at the camera in awe. "twelve year difference, nothing special, i mean, hey we're both adults, and look at jeff dunham and his wife. hes like what fifty eight and shes forty? thats an eight-teen year difference!" beth exclaimed. my eyes widened in shock and i stared at the camera silently for a few moments. "a. thats a good point and b. AN EIGHT-TEEN YEAR DIFFERENCE?!" i whisper-yelled, trying not to wake my sleeping sister.
"yeah, i know. that makes the twelve year gap between evan peters and myself perfectly," she paused for a moment to think of the right word. "un-peculiar." she finished. "wait, whats the age gap between chris evans and i?" i asked. "well, hes thirty nine and youre twenty one, so that makes the gap," she thought for a moment, doing a bit of mental math. "uhm, the gap would be 18 years, celeste.." her voice trailed off. "18?!" i yelled. "jesus fucking christ. i just watched my life crumble before my eyes." i exaggerated.
she crawled into bed and under her covers, letting out a sigh of relief as she sunk into the mattress. "god, i could never imagine leaving my bed for so long." i shook my head in disbelief. "well, you're a collage drop out," she turned on her side to plug in her phone and prop it up on a mahogany teakwood candle.
and yes, i knew it was mahogany teakwood, because thats the only candle she ever buys at bath and body works. "you need to get some sleep." i spoke as she yawned. "agreed, goodnight, sis. and if i hear the criminal minds intro, i WILL fly to the netherlands and strangle you." she closed her eyes and turned on her other side, i did the same and soon enough, we were both asleep.
