zariya never had an easy life.

ever since she was a kid, tragedy followed her.

she's the girl who's hands are stained with mistakes.

ever since she could remember, her father used to take out his anger on her mother and herself. she was terrified of everything — mainly violence, blood and loud noises. when she was around six, her best friend passed away due to brain cancer. she isolated herself from the world and refused to leave her bed. for a girl so young, she had a lot of anger and grief.

from the death of her friend, she spiraled down a dark path. she resorted to violence and her mother was everyday in the principles office, receiving complaints for bullying other students. her teachers would complain about her having severe adhd. she was troubled and didn't know how to handle all the anger and grief within her. her coping mechanism was burning things.

during the ages six to ten, her parents took her to a child pyschiatrist for her behavior. the pyschiatrist didn't help. zariya often stayed up at night and only got three to four hours of sleep. the young girl went to the doctor and the doctor diagnosed her with insomnia. she struggled everyday with her sleeping issues and her parents fighting plagued her mind, only adding fuel to her insomnia.

her brother was her only relief, resulting in her taking the beating for him. her madrasah found out about her issues at home with her parents fighting and her oldest uncle coming home high as hell. she liked it when he would disappear  for months on end without a word since she felt slightly safe without him asking for kisses on his cheek and him hugging her for much longer than needed at any given time when he pleased.

in her teens, she grew insecure of her body. her extended family would often question her about how skinny she was and that she should pick up weight. she insecurity only increased further when the girls at her madrasah would tease her about her skinny frame.

she often used to cry herself to sleep and found life miserable. that's when she started self harm. her brother caught her multiple times and told her parents of what she was doing and that got her into more trouble. her youngest uncle tried to commit suicide and that affected her greatly because he played a big part in growing her up and she wasn't ready to loose someone else so close to her like her friend. when her uncle tried committing suicide, she suffered her first panic attack and for a few months, she suffered with anxiety but hadn't told anyone. only a year after her first attack did she get help.

when she turned fourteen, she decided to join an uloom. at first, it was incredibly difficult and she failed first year. she was ready to give up but gave idaadiyah a chance and eventually found herself not wanting idaadiyah to end. she met a kind  teacher with sad eyes, khalida latib.

zariya found the young teacher to be incredibly relatable and that's when a beautiful friendship blossomed.

her madrasah years were probably the best years of her life. she met her lifelong best friend, meerub butt. she had her ups and down in madrasah but she had a blast and was saddened to see it come to an end.

now, she's studying to become a veterinarian and working as an aalimah teacher at her old madrasah.
