~ Chapter Fifty ~

Throughout the night, Dusk, Klaus, Allison, and Ray tried to figure out what to do with the dead Swedish man. It was too risky to take his body outside and dispose of it somewhere. They couldn't bury him in the backyard. If anything, that would be the first place the police would check should anybody spot them. Then, when it was approaching dawn, they all decided that the easiest way to get rid of the dead man was to wrap him in one of the carpets, tie it shut, and dispose of it.

But unfortunately, the plan was better said than done. "Here Alli, let me get him," Dusk offered, crouching on the ground as she grabbed the man's limp torso, dropping him almost immediately. He was heavier than she had ever imagined, heavier than Klaus when he was passed out. "I can't... He's too heavy, even for me," the raven sighed, scooting over so Allison and Ray could get him on the carpet.

She sat on the couch next to Klaus, who looked over at the empty seat next to him. A grunt came from Allison and Ray, and Dusk looked back to see them wrap the remaining carpet around the corpse. "God, why do people have to be so much heavier when they're dead?" Allison muttered, unaware that Ray heard her. She glanced at him with a tired look before they went back to work, tying the ropes around the ends.

"Hey, so what was it like when I possessed you?" Ben asked Klaus. "Well, it was like sex with one of the lesser Baldwins. I mean, you can feel him clattering around in there, but do you really care?" Allison, Ray, and Dusk looked over at him, confused as to who he was talking to. The third Hargreeves had a hunch that it was probably another ghost, while Ray thought Klaus had gone mental, and Dusk... well, she couldn't quite figure it out either.

"What was it like driving all this hot business?" Klaus questioned, maintaining eye contact with Ben as he rested his head on one of the couch cushions. Though she would never admit it to anybody, Dusk enjoyed hearing Klaus talking to himself. Not only that, but when she heard him ask that question about "Driving all this hot business," The wheels in her head began to turn, and she wondered if there was something more to him acting strange the previous morning.

"It was like... having no skin. But still wanting to touch everything," Ben answered, remembering every ounce of that experience, reconnecting with the world for even the slightest amount of time. He thought about Jill and how kind she was to everybody and he began to miss her. Klaus understood that feeling of having no skin perfectly well. He felt that way numerous times whenever he got high.

Allison and Ray tied together the final knot in the carpet, hopeful that this would keep the body from slipping out and exposing the crime. "On three. One... Two..." Before the couple could get to three, a zap came from the kitchen, making everybody bounce back and look at the disturbance. To their surprise, Diego had shown up, a shorter man with glasses at his side.

"Oh good, you three are here. Come on, we need to get going," Diego said the moment he saw his siblings. "Diego, Jesus!" Allison nearly screeched, fearing that her heart could not take another scare. "Wow. Number Two, Three, Four, and Eight! We almost have a straight Umbrella flush here," the tiny man chuckled. Ray backed up against the wall, looking like his eyes were about to pop from their sockets.

"Ray, this is my other brother, Diego," Allison introduced, pointing him out to her traumatized husband. "Hey, who is the other guy?" Dusk questioned, looking directly at the man with the thick black glasses. "Herb. He worked with Five at the Commission," Diego briefly explained. "Commission?" Klaus inquired. Herb explained to the confused Hargreeves that the Commission monitored and maintained the time-space continuum.

Hearing those words rang a bell in the raven's head. She remembered hearing Five briefly talk about the Commission and how the assassins Hazel and Cha-Cha were after him. So, they're the ones who sent those assassins after Five? But they also try to keep the timeline straight? Are they good or bad? "I was just there. I got to look at the timeline, and I know what causes doomsday,"

"Well, what causes it? Another collision?" Dusk asked, hoping that this time, it was less severe. "No Dusk, it's not that... It's Vanya," Diego answered. Klaus and Dusk instantly stood up from the couch, rushing over to their brother and hoping to hear his elaboration. "You're being serious? Vanya causes the apocalypse again?"

Dusk remembered the previous apocalypse all too well, and it triggered her when she remembered how she burned her ex-fiancé alive and nearly killed her family. In a twisted way, she thanked Diego for knocking her unconscious so they could stop Vanya. If he hadn't done that, she couldn't imagine what would've happened. "She's going to blow up the federal building at Dealey Plaza just as the president's passing through in less than one hour. We need to find her and stop her now."

Allison asked for clarification, stunned at the thought of Vanya being the one who kills Kennedy instead of Lee Harvey Oswald. But Diego did clear it up, claiming that the explosion would cause the motorcade to speed away, making Kennedy survive. "Everybody thinks Russia is behind it, including the president. He strikes back, then they strike back, and before you know it, it's raining nukes,"

The raven's heart pounded at the thought of going out like that. Ray's panting caught Allison's attention and made her rush to his side, his gaze shifting to all the people in the living room. "First of all, this son of a bitch beams into our living room with another of your brothers. And he's talking about stopping one of your sisters from blowing up some buildings, and I got a dead man wrapped up in my best rug, babe!" He babbled, shaking harder than a massive earthquake.

As Allison tried to calm him down, Dusk could hear her breathing quicken, nearly sending her into a full-blown panic attack. Since she was a teen, she had a bad habit of having them whenever it came to missions, and it was usually hard to calm her down. Klaus looked over and saw her clutching her chest, instantly suspecting a panic attack. "Shh shh, Dusky. Just breathe with me. In and out, In and out, okay?"

He guided her nice and easy, her breathing still ragged and short, but soon, it began to even and matched Klaus's. Her gaze connected with his, nearly making her want to cry. "We can do this. I know we can, but you have to stay strong. Come on, where's the badass phoenix I know?" "R-right here," she responded, leaning closer to him as she listened to his soothing heartbeat.

"Tha-Thank you, Klaus. Come on, we should get going before..." She trailed off. Klaus nodded in agreement, and just as Allison said her last goodbye to Ray, the four Hargreeves siblings walked out of the house, determined to stop the end of the world.

~~~~~~~
"This has to be it," Dusk said, pointing out the tall white building nearly a block away from the streets of Dealey Plaza. "Yes, that's the one! Come on, we don't have much time!" Diego shouted over the cheers from the people, watching and waiting for the president's motorcade. The four siblings pushed through the crowd, accidentally stepping on some people's feet. When they entered the federal building, the bright lights partially blinded them, forcing them to take a moment to clear their vision.
It was completely silent as the elevator glided upward, taking the siblings to their destination. God, please let us find Vanya in time. The raven thought to herself, hoping whoever was looking down on them was on their side this time. Unexpectedly, the elevator began to shudder and then stopped completely, making all the siblings look up as an unexpected beam of light shone above them.
It was coming from Vanya, and the moment the elevator doors opened, the siblings were pinned against the wall, gasping and grunting for air as it felt like they were being suffocated. With all the strength they had in their bodies, they pulled themselves out of the elevator and collapsed against a nearby wooden counter, preventing them from being pushed to the other end of the hall. Klaus was the last one out of the elevator, and as he began to be pushed away, Dusk and Allison grabbed his hands and pulled him to safety.
As the bright beams of light reverberated throughout the hall and the noises grew louder and louder, the siblings all looked at one another, silently asking one simple question.
What the hell are we going to do now?
