~ Chapter Eighty Two ~
"Dusk? Hello?" Five waved a hand near her face, trying to snap her out of it. The moment he told her who her twin was, she went completely still. No blinking, no slight sway, not a single movement. It was almost as if she turned into a statue. Her blue gaze was locked onto Five's and the look of the widened whiteness of her eyes and pinprick-sized pupils freaked him out a little. But he held firm and continued to try and "awaken" her.
It wasn't until he grabbed her hand that she came back to reality, still in shock but able to move. "Are you okay?" He asked. Dusk slowly nodded her head before looking away, still trying to take his answer in. Oh my god... I'm a twin, and I'm related to Five? No, how am I supposed to believe this? "I know it's a lot to take in. I had a hard time believing it at first too," Five sighed. "I just don't understand. If we're twins, then why were we never close growing up?" Dusk questioned.
"Partly because of Dad," Five answered, explaining their constant separation during training. "The only time I remember us having the bond was when we were born," The raven's eyebrows furrowed as she tried to remember that day. "Okay, maybe we never had a twin connection, but twins usually have a similar trait. We may look alike and have different powers, but do you think there's something else we could both have?"
Five pursed his lips in thought, trying to recount every tiny detail that could be similar. He knew she would have a hard time believing this truth, but he didn't think it'd be this hard to convince her. Did she like math and science? No, she hated it. Did she wonder what the future would be like? Maybe... Then, a lightbulb hit him. Although it was not one of his proudest traits, he did see similar homicidal tendencies in her that he once felt in him.
He would never admit it, but there had been times when Five wanted to rip out his dad's throat whenever he wouldn't let him or his siblings live like normal kids and when he damaged them emotionally and verbally. And as he has seen earlier, Dusk wanted to kill Allison for hurting one of the closest people in her life.
"We've both experienced some form of homicidal rage," the time traveler stated, careful not to anger his sister. Dusk looked up, slightly taken aback by that statement. But she couldn't deny her body and injury count. "I guess so... But I don't enjoy killing people. Once my demon takes ahold of me, I can't control it," She admitted. "You don't take pleasure in it, do you?"
"I've never liked killing, sis. But if someone has to die in order to save the world or get us back home, then it has to be that way. Why else do you think I slaughtered a board room of people to get us here?" Oh shit, that was what he was talking to The Handler about back on Sissy's farm. The more time they spent conversing with one another, the more Dusk felt some connection, but there was still a part of her that was hesitant about him really being her brother.
When Five asked her if she believed him after all the evidence he had presented, Dusk closed her eyes once more, reaching deep into her mind to remember the day of her birth. But strangely, she recalled no image of the day, only sounds. Painful screams, her own cries, and pants of relief. But soon, more noises caught her attention. There was another cry that didn't sound like her or her mother. Rather another baby.
Then came the feeling of someone grabbing her. Her eyes shot open for a second to see no one holding her hand, but when she closed her eyes, the warm feeling stretched over it again. It slowly dawned on her, the actions Five had described from that day had proven to be correct. Dusk clasped a hand over her mouth, her eyes getting misty. But this time, the tears weren't sad but rather happy.
"Yes! You are my twin brother!" she sniffed. A slight smile tugged at the corner of his lips, and without warning, Dusk leaned forward and hugged him. Five felt a little awkward by the sudden move, but soon returned the embrace. "I can't believe out of everyone in the Academy, I get to be related to you." She muffled into his suit sleeve. "I can't believe it either," Five responded. As they pulled away, Dusk felt her heart pound with excitement and determination. She had a small circle of people she cared about deeply, and now Five was one of them. If it ever came to it, Dusk would fight for him just like she would for Viktor, Klaus and Victoria.
"Oh, it's getting close to the next kugelwave," Five noticed as he looked down at his watch. Already? It felt like the countdown had just started, and now they were ten minutes away. "We should get everyone downstairs," the time traveler said, adjusting his tie. "I'll go get Viktor, Diego, and Victoria. You grab Luther, Allison, and Lila?" Dusk nodded. Her twin gave her a thumbs-up before she went down the steps to grab them.

It had been hours since the sun had set, and Klaus and Reginald were still on the road, taking random twists and turns. Klaus expected to see the familiar shadow of office and apartment buildings as they drove closer to the city. But instead, he found them pulling onto a tree-canopied road, the pale light of the moon silhouetting the leaves on the gravel. "Where are you taking me? I thought we were going home," the junkie questioned.
"You have a gift you refuse to fully use. Tell me, why do you of all people fear the dead?" Reginald asked, placing his hands on his hips. Klaus stuck his head out the car window, "Maybe because some asshole in the real world locked me in a box as a little kid!" he exclaimed, claiming he had told him this at least five times during their journey. Reginald walked towards the passenger door and opened it, grabbing Klaus by the sleeve of his jacket.
"We can't change the past, but we can confront it. Here, your gift became your nightmare. A man is not a man until he slays the demons of his youth," his father explained, his tone rather soft and hushed. "Okay Obi-Wang, but my demons are literal," Number Four sighed. "All the more reason to face them. You lost your true potential here, it's time you take it back." Muttering under his breath, Klaus slowly walked deep into the graveyard, his father giving a somewhat gentle shove before letting him go.
As the branches hung low, Klaus crouched down the further he walked. As the cold night air blew past him, a shiver or two ran down his spine. Soon, he found himself in the middle of nowhere, still surrounded by gravestones and mausoleums. Suddenly, the sound of whispering voices came from all angles, making the hairs at the back of his neck stand at attention. Get it together, Klaus. His consciousness spoke as he slightly curled into a ball.
He reached into his jacket pocket, pulling out his lighter to help light the way. But the moment the orange flame appeared, he was greeted with the shrieks and horrifying green glow of ghosts, all reaching out to him. Klaus screamed and ran back the way he came, dropping his lighter in the process. Ghosts came at him, swarming from all directions, Klaus couldn't dare look back, as he feared he would freeze up and wouldn't be able to escape.
He jumped over a gravestone as one of the ghosts reached out to grab him, but luckily Klaus was able to evade it. He soon saw his father still waiting by the car and started screaming hysterically for him to help. As he took cover near a stone statue, Reginald flashed a light at the ghosts, briefly keeping them at bay. "Quickly. What are you afraid of?" he asked. "The face-eating ghosts!" Klaus insisted.
"No! You're afraid of failure, so you refuse to even try. Because you'd rather quit than disappoint," Reginald shook his head, continuing to shine his light at the ghosts. "Disappoint who?" Klaus questioned. "Me. In any timeline, I am simply far too brilliant a teacher to have left you so untutored. I made you children feel small, confused by your own powers so that I could control you," The monocle explained.
Klaus looked up at him with wide eyes, asking him why he would do that. "Never mind that now, focus! I witnessed you today, and inside that overly manicured-exterior, you are a warrior. These spirits should fear you," "But... how do I fight them?" the junkie gulped. "I don't know. But I believe with all my heart that you do. Be everything I was afraid to let you become," Reginald's words struck a chord in Klaus. And for once in his life, he felt strong. The nervous feeling was still there, but now he felt like he could fight his fear.
As he began walking towards the spirits, Reginald turned off his flashlights, and as the ghosts descended upon Klaus, he started coughing, but in an instant, a bright blue light came from his hands and chest, making him stand up straight, slightly groaning as the blue light took over him, making all the ghosts surrounding him shriek in pain until they all disappeared. Silence. Silence filled the air as Klaus looked back on what he had done.
"Oh my god, I did it!" He chuckled, clasping his hands over his mouth. "Well, aren't you a miracle?" Reginald gaped.
