Amora Caerys-Cupid

"Miss Amora Caerys-Cupid," Headless Headmistress Bloodgood said, unimpressed that Amora had landed in detention. Sheepishly clasping her hands, Amora's cheeks grew redder by the second when Bloodgood narrowed her eyes. She wore a dark purple cloak that matched her grave expression. "And why are you here today?"

Amora cleared her throat. "So, uhm, I may or may not have shot a love arrow at someone who already had a boyfriend by accident, causing a huge cheating scandal. Then the girl's ex-boyfriend started a fightβ€”"

Bloodgood held up her hand. "I've heard enough, go take a seat."

Amora sat in the front room of the half-full classroom, glancing at the gloomy evening weather outside. It was Halloweenβ€”she should be outside with her classmates having a fright night, not holed up in detention! She sank further down her chair, sighing.

"First time in detention?" Damian Vlad's voice came from the desk behind her. Amora turned around in her chair, meeting Damian's cocky smirk with a roll of her eyes. Oh my ghoul, kill me now. "Oh, wait, never mind. Isn't this your tenth fluke this month?"

"Shut up," Amora said, fully embarrassed. Although a Cherubβ€”a creature who shot arrows at others for them to fall in loveβ€”she lacked a total sense of direction, ending up pairing the wrong couple. Or she ended up missing her target and hit someone else by mistake; her aim was terrible. "Let me guess, you were late to your grave-ball practice?"

"Coach is a stickler for tardiness." Damian leaned back into his chair, tipping it slightly. His brown skin and dark eyes contrasted in the dim lighting. His fingers drummed on his desk as a bored expression played out. Classic Damian.

From the corner of her eye, Amora spotted Lovella Cherish walking into detention. Lovella? But she was the sweetest student at Monster High ever, why would she be in detention? "Oh, hey, CC!" Lovella said, taking the empty seat next to Amora. Lovella, noting Amora's surprise, explained, "I was late to class again. Too busy matchmaking another couple." She tossed her blonde hair over her shoulder, smiling with perfect teeth. The Golden Girl of their school.

"Oh." Amora bit her lip, feeling a bit bad for the envy seeping into her veins. Amora knew that jealousy was a terrible trait, but she couldn't help it around Lovella lately. Lovella was the perfect Cherub, always hitting her marks and so beloved by Monster High. In fact, Lovella was declared the Cherub ringleader at school.

And Amora? Well, she was a screw-up. She was horrible at being a Cherub.

"I'm so disappointed that we're missing Halloween," Amora said, shaking her head.

"I heard that Headmistress Bloodgood is keeping us in detention until midnight so Halloween will be over by then," a voice chimed in. It was Lilith Dorian, the morbid girl. Amora smiled slightly, but she was put off. Lilith was scary and a bit odd for a witch. Lilith was unblinking, continuing her train of thought. Black, unruly hair cascaded down her back as Lilth's eerie gaze flickered to meet Amora's eyes. "A shame, no?"

"Shame indeed," Damian said unhappily. "The night is the only time I get to shine without the sun getting in my way."

As the last of the students filed into detention, Headmistress Bloodgood cleared her throat. She gestured to a young woman to the left of her, who seemed nervous quite frankly. "I have other affairs to tend to, so teaching assistant Thalassa Waters will be supervising." She was older than Amora by a few years, so she was probably in Grave Year. Thalassa's hair was in a neat braid and her sweater was without a speck of lint, Amora suspected she was the type of girl to make sure everything went along smoothly.Unfortunately for Thalassa, their detention class consisted of the most chaotic students known to man.

Headmistress Bloodgood's steel gaze cut across the room, silencing the noisiest of students. "Do. Not. Cause. Trouble. Thank you and have yourself a howling Halloween." With that, Bloodgood walked out and closed the door behind her.

The young woman, Thalassa Waters, looked meekly at everyone. "Um, hi, please don't use devices or talk that loudly..." Everyone started to ignore her, pulling out ICoffins and chatting with peers. "Or that's okay..." Thalassa was quiet, Amora noted, and obviously too shy to tame the detention class.

"I can't believe we're missing out on Halloween," Aidan Ashely grumbled unhappily, resting his head on his desk, hood up. As a Fire Elemental, Aidan was rather... hot-headed. Amora had no doubt he landed in detention for his violent outbursts. He played with the zipper of his fireproof jacket with his calloused hands.

"Can we quiet down?" Thalassa asked in a panicky tone, but she was drowned in the voices of others. "For ghoul's sake..." She swore under her breath, shaking her head. Then for a split second. Amora did feel pity for her, Thalassa obviously would rather spend her Halloween evening not supervising a bunch of amuck teenagers. Around her wrist was a key that unlocked the door to the hallway.

Amora's foot tapped against the wooden floorboards, causing creaking. She didn't normally cause trouble and would follow the rules, but... Well, sometimes, you need to have an anomaly once in a while. Amora stood up from her desk, raising her hand. "Miss, can I get something from my locker?"

Damian sensed Amora's idea. "Yeah, I need to get something too."

"Please, we need to get our stuff!" someone begged.

"Me too," another chimed in.

"Same!"

Thalassa looked overwhelmed by suddenly being bombarded with requests. "I don't thinkβ€”"

"Pretty please with a cherry on top?" Amora asked convincingly, widening her eyes and tilting her head downwards for the best puppy eyes facade. "Oh, wait, you don't trust us, obviously. So why don't you grab our stuff for us?" Her tone was laced with the trap she laid out.

"I-I don't know if I'm allowed toβ€”"

Amora grabbed her by the arm, guiding her to the door. "Take two lefts by the corner and straight down, then you'll see the lockers. Got it?" Ever so slightly, she reached for the staff key around his wrist, but she shoved her hand into her pockets last-minute. Damnnit. The teacher's assistant went out the door and slammed the door shut, spinning around on her heels.

Amora quickly gathered everyone's attention. At least that was the one thing she was good for. She clapped her hands, jerking her thumb towards the door. "We don't have long until Thalassa gets back, so we need an escape plan."

"And how do you plan to do that exactly, little Cherub?" Somus Grimm asked, tilting his head down from the back row. He looked exhausted, but that was to be expected of the sleepy Prince of Sloth. Do demons get sleep though? Amora wondered, she'd have to add that to the jar of questions she would ask him.

Damian raised his hand. "Key?"

Amora sighed, glancing at the clock on the wall. 10: 30 PM, it read. "No key." Sauntering over to the windows in her Mary Jane heels, she inspected it. "Windows aren't locked, but it would barely fit any of us," she reported back. The windows were in small panels; Headmistress Bloodgood probably planned for students to try to skip detention. "Shit, what do we do now?"

Everyone started to look around the classroom for an escape route. No key, no window, Amora had a thousand thoughts running through her mind. Amid the chaos, Amora spotted a ghost that could be of some use. "Theodore," she said, walking over him. Theodore Hauntington, as usual, was spending his time blankly looking out the window. "I need your help, we need to get out of this room before Halloween ends. And, well, ghosts can bypass solid objects, correct?"

"Why not," Theodore muttered as if all life was lost to him. Okay, that's kind of sad, Amora had to admit. Everyone knew Theo's tale, it was truly tragic as a fellow Cherub. Finding lost love was difficult, even harder for Theo since he was a ghost.

"Go through the window with Theodore and make your way through Monster High to unlock the door from the outside, which doesn't require a key." She clasped her hands as Theodore begrudgingly got up, walking through the wall without a care in the world. Good Grief... He disappeared in the Courtyard's shadows, the wind whipping his hair until he vanished from Amora's sight.

"Are you even sure he'll come back?" Lovella asked when Amora came back.

"I mean... no... but I trust him to complete the job." Amora sat on her desk, unwrapping a lollipop in her pocket. She popped it into her mouth, her legs dangling. Now that it was just a waiting game, she surveyed the people around her.

There were the Sirensβ€”Seraphine Marino, Hydra Moonglade, and Haelyn Lakesβ€”a rather large population of them at Monster High, talking about music class and vocals. Of course, there were the witches, Lois Vudu and Lilth, who were paired up as a couple a few weeks ago by Lovella. Then there was the Merfolk, the Vampires, the Angels, the Demons, yada yada yadaβ€”

Suddenly, the door unlocked and swung open. "Shit, dude, I actually thought that was Thalassa," Damian exhaled a breath of relief when Theodore's head entered the doorway. "Finally, freedom!" He stood up abruptly, running out of the class. The rest of the students followed shortly after, eager to escape the bleak detention room.

"A schemer is nothing I wouldn't have pegged you for," Lovella laughed as Monster High students filed out of the classroom. Amora grabbed her love arrows, rearranging them. There were types of arrows for different purposes such as crushes, lust, insanity, standard, etc. "I heard about today's mishap. You know, with the whole Cherub thing."

Amora sucked in a deep breath, biting back her tongue. Please, not today, Lovella. Changing the subject, she said, "Now, come on, are you coming? I heard some students are going to trash Professor Carrie Creeper's dorm, it's going to be grave!"

"I need to finish up something," Lovella answered.

"On Halloween?" That was rather strange...

"No, I mean... Never mind, it's okay." Everyone had escaped detention by then, they were the only ones left in the classroom. Lovella smiled tenderly at Amora, patting her shoulder gently. Her hands were warm. "Your time in the sun will come soon, CC. You don't need to worry."

Amora laughed, a bit puzzled. "You sound like you have blood worms all up in your brain." She slung her pink messenger bag over her shoulder, heading towards the door. She would see Lovella later, maybe at Damian's after school party.

"Hey, CC?"

Amora, right at the doorway, turned around. "Yeah?"

"Goodbye."

A/N: Majority of the chapters will be Amora's or Callas', seeing as how he's her love interest (Callas got an upgrade tbh), but every character will have their time to shine because of the format I'm planning! And of course I'll make different POVs to fit my nearestΒ convenience.Β

Please excuse the crappy writing, I'm sleep-deprived at the moment lol.
