𝟬𝟮. the watcher

chapter two, the watcher

Rick's group was tired. They had been searching houses, all day long, for water, food, anything that could keep them alive, or could help them survive. Daryl and Rick left the others and went out, by themselves to hunt.

They were following some old train tracks, that were now covered in overgrown grass. While searching for animals that could be their potential diner, they came across a prison. The men glanced at each other. Rick didn't know what to think.

Long story short, they were going to try and take over the prison. Meaning they had to find a way to get in, and eliminate the dozens of walkers. Well they did it. They managed to make it out of that bullet shower alive. But Maggie felt uneasy. She had this weird feeling, like she was being watched. She couldn't explain it. They were now going to try to relax and sleep the night away, because tomorrow was going to be a big day.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Nora's eyes fluttered open. She blinked multiple times, trying to adjust to the sunlight. She lifted the axe off of her body, and put it down right next to her. She made a move to get up, almost forgetting about the company she had. The girl rubbed her eyes, in an attempt to wake herself up. She was hungry and she wasn't thinking, so she took out her chocolate chip cookies, and ate every single one of them.

After enjoying her breakfast, she realized it was time to face reality. As much as she didn't want to, she had to. She lied down on her stomach and crawled on the floor, until she reached the end of the roof. Her rifle was right where she left it yesterday night. She moved around, until she got comfortable enough.

Her eyes found the scope. It was still pretty early in morning, given the fact that the sun wasn't completely up yet. So when she looked through, she was met with a sleeping group of people.

I can't just go and wake them up. She thought to herself. They would think she was crazy, and she couldn't have that. In a matter of days, hours maybe, she might not be able to walk. That's how badly her ankle was hurting her. She needed that group's help. So she was going to sit there, for as long as she needed to.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Nora was observing the group closely. They were starting to wake up. That's good. She was holding the rifle steady, in her hands, searching for the perfect time, to make herself known.

Minutes passed and she saw them talking. It looked like their leader was giving them instructions on something. And they were moving. She saw all of them pack their belongings up and make their way towards the building, whose roof she was hiding on.

The group broke into two. The first half walked through the fence, that the leader opened the 'door' for them and the other half stayed behind. Those that were in, were staying in a close circle, fighting any walker that came onto them. The group that remained outside, were trying to attract the walkers, so that they would leave the rest of the group alone.

Nora started making out faces, ages and looks. The outside group, a young boy, that looked to be about eleven. A pregnant woman, a woman with short hair next to her, an elder man and lastly a blonde young girl. In the inside group, there was a weird looking man with a crossbow, the leader, that was pretty handsome, a gorgeous woman with short brown hair, another guy that was holding some sort of pipe, as well as one that was holding an arrow? What the fuck?

The got deeper into the outside parts of the prison grounds. That ment way more walkers. They were coming at them from a way, some of them even had armors on, which made them harder to kill. The group was good. They were able to handle many walkers together. Green flag? Maybe. Her only thoughts were if they would take her in, help her.

Out of nowhere, she noticed three or four walkers come up behind the pretty woman with short hair. They were terribly close to her, but no one seemed to be alarmed about them, not even the woman herself. Nora didn't think twice. She cocked her rifle and in no time she shot at the walkers. Headshots! Hell yeah! She was proud of herself.

The group seemed to be confused about the shots that were heard. They were looking around trying to understand what happened and where the shots came from. Suddenly a voice was heard.

"Hey assholes! You should watch out!" She yelled from the rooftop and finally made herself visible to them. There she was, their watcher.

All of them, looked up and caught a glimpse of a tanned girl standing on the roof of the building behind them, with a rifle that she probably just used, laying in her hands. She was glaring back at them, with a confusing look. Rick wasn't able to understand it.

"Who are you?" Rick tilted his head, yelling at her.

"What do I get in return if I tell you?" She understood where he was coming from. She was a stranger to him, but she really needed to gain his trust.

"I asked you something." He raised his eyebrows. He was fed up.

"And I just saved your woman from getting ripped apart. Now... What do I get in return?" While she was speaking, she heard another voice but it wasn't coming from the inside group.

"Rick, what is happening? Is everything alright?" Someone questioned, that Nora found out to be the pregnant woman. She couldn't see her clearly, because she was much further away from her. Nora was a little bit shocked. I mean getting pregnant in the middle of a zombie apocalypse? Doesn't sound ideal to me.

Nora decided it was time to give it a try. She walked back to her sleeping spot, grabbed her bag and axe and started to make her way down the rooftop. While the leader was mumbling something back to the pregnant woman, who seemed to have everyone's attention, Nora was able to sneak down.

The man with the crossbow, was the first to notice her, and when he did he pointed his weapon right at her. He nudged his companions, and they all turned to face her. The pretty woman, that the girl saved, noticed that she wasn't walking straight. She was limping.

"I come in peace!" She layed down her gun and raised her hands. She did not want to cause anything. She felt many eyes on her. So when she turned around, she was met with five people staring at her. The outside group. Her eyes instantly found the guy with the hat and she started at him. It looks like a cowboy hat.

"Who is she?" Asked the old man.

"Hi! I'm Nora!" She tilted her head and gave him a polite smile, but it quickly vanished when the leader grabbed her shoulder. She reacted so fast that he didn't even have time to think.

"Don't, touch me." She took his hand and twisted it. The man let a yell of pain out.

"Okay, okay! Sorry. Jesus." She released his hand from her grip and he was rubbing it, trying to ease the pain. What she did to him though, didn't stop him.

"How many walkers have you killed?" He looked at her straight in the eyes.

"What?" How many walkers have I killed? Really?

"How many walkers have you killed?" He repeated the question. He wanted to show her that he was serious.

"You guys are crazy." She breathed out, while laughing and pointing her fingers at them. Because seriously who the fuck keeps count?

"I'm gonna ask one last time. How many walkers have you killed?" The man was growing impatient and you could see it in the way his face looked.

"Jeez, relax. I don't keep a fucking diary, so that means I don't know. Alright?" The girl bit back. She was so fed up with this conversation.

"How many people have you killed?"

"One." Liar. Liar. Liar. But they can't know. Can they now?

"Why."

"He got in the way." The girl simply shrugged and looked down fidgeting with the ring on her finger. The man extended his hand out to her, while wearing an expression in his face, she couldn't quite make out.

"I'm Rick. Rick Grimes."

"Nice to meet you Rick Grimes. I'm Nora." She took his hand and shook it. The group seemed to calm down a bit. They all put down their weapons and introduced themselves.

"Hey, I'm Glenn!" The dude that was carrying a pipe, whose name was Glenn, sent a small wave, accompanied by a polite smile her way. She smiled back.

"Maggie. Thanks for saving me." The gorgeous woman said and Nora noticed she had a southern accent. The girl then proceeded to walk over to her.

"No problem." She hoped that they would've done the same, if it was her in that situation.

"Hey, are you alright there?" Maggie pointed to her leg.

"Uh, not so much."

"My dad's a doctor he can help you." Nora's eyes sparked up. Luck was definitely on her side.

"Really? Thank you." Nora felt so great full and glad she met them. Even if she doesn't fully know them yet, they were willing to help her.

"Daddy! Come here!" The old man rushed to his daughter's side, as soon as she called for him. Why not me? Why couldn't that be me?

"I'm Hershel." The man introduced himself. He seemed so sweet.

"Nora."

"What's the problem?" The man question his daughter, as she was the one that called him.

"Something with her leg." Maggie pointed towards Nora.

"Maggie!" Nora's hard snapped to the direction of Rick's voice.

"We have to check out the inside, c'mon!"

"You're gonna be alright?" Nora immediately nodded her head. When Maggie left, Hershel took her back to the outside group and closed the door. It was safe to say she felt awkward. Everyone introduced themselves as well, except the boy.

"Is there a reason why your leg hurts? Perhaps, an injury?" Hershel asked her, trying to figure out the problem.

"Ankle. And no, it's a condition I have. I need medication for it. Medication I haven't taken in three years. At first I managed, but then it started getting swollen and it hurt so much, to the point where I couldn't walk some days." She tried her best to explain it, as better as she could.

"Arthritis?"

"Yeah, I had it since I was four." The man seemed to be familiar with her condition. That made her happy, because maybe he could find a way to help her.

"What medication did you take?"

"An injection, once a week."

"There should be an infirmary here. We could check if they have it, if you remember what it looks like?" Beth spoke up.

"I doubt it. Even if someone in here had it, it would've been an adult. That means completely different way of medication. Even if there were kids here, we wouldn't find what I need. The type of medication, is different for everyone." And she lost hope.

"Don't worry, we'll find a way." Hershel put his hand on the girl's shoulder, reassuring her. She just nodded at him, not believing any of his words.

The fact that I can write when something is going on in my life and my head is a mess, but not when I'm calm, should be studied.

Anyway, here is chapter 2!! The first chapters might be a bit short, but as we get more into the story they'll get longer I promise <33
