David's POV...
It's been more than a week since Nnenna and I broke up, more like, she broke things up with me. At the last day of WAEC, she didn't even glimpse at me, not even for two seconds. I had no idea that she felt that bad with what happened between us, that she even returned all the past questions on JAMB that I offered her.
After the examinations on Friday, I sent a junior student to give her an apology letter I prepared for her, together with the past questions. I stood afar when she came out from the chapel with a couple of friends, watching as she laughed heartily and spoke to them about something. She was truly beautiful, but it was a beauty that was rare to find. Her long braids until past her shoulders, her glowing eyes that lit up with amusement whenever she found something humourous or learnt something new. She was just too simply beautiful, to state the fact.
When the boy arrived to where they stood, she paused to hear him out, then said something back to him. He turned to leave when he stopped, Dinma, one of the girls with her, took the books from him and sent him off. I don't know what Dinma said to her, but I saw her taking the books from her and headed towards the gate. I was happy that at least, she accepted the books. Inside one of them, she would find the apology letter. I can only hope that she forgives me after reading it.
“Bro, exam don finish na, make we bounce,” Timothy jilted out of my thoughts.
“Yes, I'm waiting for Hassan,” I told him.
He shrugged nonchalantly and walked out, leaving me alone.
“You ready?” I heard Hassan saying behind me.
I turned to look at him, he referred the question to me. “Yes, let us go.”
We had to go for one final football match amongst ourselves. It was strictly for the boys in the graduating set, the females and other students could watch if they wanted, but they won't interfere in the game.
When we arrived at the field, a lot of us were already gathered there, pulling off their uniforms and wearing on a jersey. Hassan and I joined in. We were divided into two batches; batch A consisted of eleven players with all the odd numbers, while batch B had also eleven players with all the even numbers. I fell into the second batch. The two groups formed a big circle, said a short prayer before the whistle rang out.
I realized in the middle of the game that I was really going with the flow, unlike it has been for me throughout the examination. Football was my second love and I've missed playing the game. I ran with agility and speed, my mind focused on getting the ball and kicking it into the goalpost. After the first half, we went on a short break. Some students have already made themselves present on the field bench, it was break time so they were free to watch. Most of the females in our set were nowhere to be seen, but I sighted Daphne with some friends, and Nnenna with her friends as well.
I wanted to go and talk to her and ask if she's read the letter, but something stopped me from approaching her. She might walk out of the game and I won't have the opportunity to show my talent off to her. Instead I sat on a stool and drank from the energy drink I had in my hand. Then I poured water over my head and rested for a bit, before the second half commenced. At the end of the game, batch B won by three to two points, to batch A. I felt fulfilled.
“Ehen! Guy you don check your examination date and center?” Johnson asked Timothy who was standing beside me, while we packed our things.
“No, wetin de sup?” Timothy said.
“I de hear say dem don begin to give out center and dates to candidates. My cousin brother just chat me up now, e dey tell me say dem give am next week Saturday at one CBT center in Ikorodo.” Johnson announced.
I had no idea that JAMB has started issuing dates and centers to candidates. I just hope mine falls on a due date, a time I am well prepared.
“E be like say I go check my own this night, I go use my sister laptop check am. I just pray dem no go give me anytime next week,” Timothy said.
“You nko?” Johnson turned the question to me, he could hardly ever not stick his nose in other people's business.
“I have not checked mine either, but I will later. Thanks for the information though.” I carried my bag and stalked off before he started another subject for discussion.
After that, I left the school for my house. I didn't have strength for the other outings my classmates have planned out for today. I just needed to lay my head down and get some minutes of sleep. After all, I deserved that after these past days of reading non-stop. I took a cab heading to my street and before I knew it, I was already home, out of my jersey and laid on the bed in only white polo and briefs.
.
.
The next day after my house chores, which Ikenna's dad of course managed to make unbearable for me, I logged online and chatted with some contacts on WhatsApp and Facebook, then Twitter. I even checked Operanews for the newest updates in the country before I got a message from Hassan.
Hassan: I've checked my date and center. It's on the last Saturday of this month at Ikorodo.
Me: This one that everybody is getting Ikorodo, hope it's not where the mgbo is?
Hassan: Do I know, I just need a good center.
Hassan: Have you checked yours?
Me: Nope, but I will today.
Hassan: That's how you'll keep postponing it until you get next week Monday. It's just a day away oo.
Me: I reject, it's not possible.
Hassan: Oya naa, goodluck!
Me: You too brother.
And his message motivated me to check online for my date and center. Thankfully, mine fell on the last Wednesday of the month. A week after today. I had time to prepare mentally and academically, plus, I could hear stories and experience of other people.
I went offline and reviewed my notes and jotter. Going through the important points and topics I had written down. I didn't realize when I had dozed off until I heard the ding of the doorbell.
“who could that be?” I groaned as I got up from the couch I was sprawled on.
When I opened the door, I was shocked to see that it was the same man I met in our house, that had a banter with my mom.
‘My father’ My subconscious mind whispered. My joy at the acknowledgement, knew no bounds. I couldn't believe that my father was still alive after all these years. A man I thought no longer existed.
Judging from his appearance, he doesn't look like someone who's having a rough life. At that point, I felt bad for my mom. Could he have been having the time of his life and left my mom to suffer alone.
“Good afternoon sir,” I couldn't forget my manners to always greet people, no matter who they were.
“Good afternoon son. Is Mrs Jasmine in?” he asked, referring to mom by her first name.
“No she isn't, any message. I can pass it to her when she comes back.”
“It's actually something I would want to speak with her in person about. Don't mind though,” he started walking away.
I badly wanted to call him back and let him know that he had a son, the same boy who was speaking to him. I wanted to see his reaction when he realized whom I was, but I did not want to betray my mother like that. If she hasn't told him about me, then there must be a good reason for that. I didn't want to let the cat out of the bag before she did.
Not able to contain it any longer, I phoned my mom and I told her that father came around.
As usual, she instructed me not to let him into the house or give him any information concerning my true identify, one day he would get tired of coming around. Although, that wasn't what I wanted, I had to go with the flow.
One day, I believed I would get a chance to ask my dad what went wrong and find out his side of the story. Who knows maybe I can get that father-figure I've sought all my life. He could probably render some words of advice about what I should do to make things right with Nnenna.

I know this is a short chapter, but I really don't know how to write in a male's POV. I'll do better next time.
