training
Moana Blue hates the Hunger Games more than anything; but the thing she hates the most about being in the games is the training. The way that you have to show your strengths and weakness in front of the people who'd be trying to kill you only a few days from now was not something that Moana Blue thought kindly of. While it does give you some ideas of how to survive; it's a way that shows that Moana Blue does not stand a chance against any of the tributes in the arena, once again.
During her first games, Moana Blue didn't talk to anyone or do anything during training, being too scared to do anything. All Moana Blue did was stay with her brother, watching him train. Being fourteen, the youngest in the games, and being the one that everyone thinks will be the first dead is terrifying for anyone, nevermind a child. So, back then, that was the only thing that Moana Blue could think of doing.
And now, two years later, Moana Blue is the youngest in her games, everyone thinks that she won't get through the first games and she is going into the games with professional killers. She felt like she was stuck in the past; back being the fourteen year old girl in the games with her brother. But, in reality, she is a sixteen year old girl, going into the games with the person that is her father figure.
"Hey, are you okay?" Finnick asks as they walk through the entrance of the training center, seeing Moana Blue looking around with a scared look on her face. "Mo, you okay?"
"I'm okay, just getting a sense of deja vu" Moana Blue says with a nervous laugh. As much as she loves her new found family, she sometimes wishes she didn't, because if she didn't love Annie, she wouldn't have volunteered. She would have been able to escape the games but instead, she was right back to where she was this time two years ago.
"You're going to be okay" Finnick tries to reassure Moana Blue "Just ignore everyone in this room. Focus on yourself."
"It's really hard to do that right now" Moana Blue says as she looks around at everyone in the training center, with them all having their own strengths. The only strength Moana Blue has in the games is getting sponsors. In her first games, Moana Blue used the fact that she is a performer to her advantage, which got the Capitol to love her and send her and her brother a lot of sponsor gifts, with a lot of them including food.
"I know it's hard, but you got to block all of that out" Finnick says to Moana Blue with a sigh, knowing that she is more worried than him "If that doesn't work, just come and find me."
"Wait, you're not staying with me?" Moana Blue asks Finnick, becoming more nervous.
"We have to get allies don't we?" Finnick asks, making Moana Blue nod her head "So I'm going to talk to Johanna while you do your own thing, and maybe talk to Katniss or Peeta."
"Why can't you talk to them?" Moana Blue asks Finnick. She knew that Finnick was the more likable one out of the two of them; well the more talkative one anyway. If they want allies, Finnick was their best bet to get them.
"I don't think Katniss likes me very much" Finnick says with a shrug "Hopefully you have a better chance" He says, making Moana Blue roll her eyes "I'm going to go and talk to Johanna now, if you need anything, come find me, okay?"
"Okay, I love you" Moana Blue says to Finnick.
"Love you too, kiddo" Finnick says with a smile before walking away from Moana Blue, leaving the girl all by herself.
For the next hour, Moana Blue spent her time doing what she can do best, which was taking finishing hooks. Being from District 4, which is the fishing district, she had been doing all of this since she was a child, so it was something that reminded her from home. Something that comforted her.
"You can't take my past. You can't take my future" Moana Blue quietly sings to herself, to try and calm herself down, as Katniss walks over to the girl.
"You have a lovely voice" Katniss says, catching Moana Blue's attention. Haymitch had told Katniss that she had to at least try to get Moana Blue as an ally, since she failed so miserably with Finnick. She didn't really know why Haymitch was so determined to get District 4 to be their allies, but she had just guessed because they are classed as career tributes so they have a better chance at winning if they are allies with Moana Blue and Finnick. "You sung that song at your first reaping, didn't you?" Katniss asks the girl, knowing that she recognized the song from somewhere.
"Right before I told the Capitol to kiss my ass, yeah" Moana Blue says with a laugh, remembering the moment very well.
"It was a good first impression though" Katniss says to Moana Blue with a small smile "Did you write that song? I've never heard it before."
"No, my grandma did" Moana Blue explains "I found her old songbook a few months before the reaping, so I thought why not. I sung one of her songs during the interview as well."
"Can you teach me how to do that?" Katniss asks, looking down at the fishing hook "I could teach you how to use a bow as well?"
"I can teach you, but no thanks on the bow" Moana Blue says with a small smile "Bricks and hiding are more my speed. I'm too uncoordinated for a bow."
"You sure?" Katniss asks, making Moana Blue nod her head.
For the next couple of hours, Katniss and Moana Blue stayed with each other; with Moana Blue teaching Katniss how to tie a fishing hook and Katniss teaching Moana Blue how to hunt. The two had ended up making a bit of small talk together, mostly bonding over the similarities and differences of their districts and talking about their past games. Katniss would probably not admit it so easily, but she had started to like Moana Blue. She reminded Katniss a lot of Prim, with Moana Blue's kind nature. The two knew that they were going into the arena together, possibly having to kill each other, but Moana Blue still treated her with kindness, like they had the same class together at school.
"You want to come in with me?" Katniss asks Moana Blue as they stood outside of the simulator.
"Maybe next time" Moana Blue says to Katniss "I'm good standing and watching."
"Okay" Katniss says as she goes into the simulator.
As Katniss was in the simulator, all of the tributes started crowding around, watching Katniss 'kill' every single thing that showed up. And one thing that they had all noticed was that the simulator represented all of the other tributes. Katniss was able to kill every single one of them without a worry, which showed everyone what a threat she'd be in the games. But while the other tributes looked at her in shock at the end, Wiress and Moana Blue clapped for the girl.
"Looks like we have a bit of competition" Finnick whispers to Moana Blue.
