"WHAT'S UP, PARTY PEOPLE?!" Nathan Doe yelled out as he walked out to the Valentine sister's backyard.
"Nate!" Avery squealed, excusing herself from a conversation and jogging over to her friend.
The pair shared a friendly hug, excitedly chatting. The Sturniolo brothers soon made their way over to greet another one of their best friends. Tonight, the always well-decorated back garden was much more decorated and prettier than usual.
Streamers and pink-colored lanterns hung from the pergola roof, the grass had been cut earlier (thanks to Theodore) and many lounge chairs were seated around the fireplace. There was a long wooden table that sat under the pergola that was neatly dressed with a white linen cloth and contained a certain amount of plates and cutlery.
Remi Valentine had projected a 'W AVERY, W YALE' presentation on the outdoor projector which had every guest that entered the garden chuckling.
"Guess who?" A pair of hands covered Avery's eyes as she squealed, holding onto the person's wrists.
Avery spun around with a wide smile. "Jess!" She embraced the boy in a tight hug, chuckling as Anabelle Carter and Dylan Alcaraz waddled over in excitement.
"Jess, this is Anabelle and Dylan. Belle, Dyl, this is Jess!"
Polite greetings were exchanged between the new friends and they began talking away, leaving Avery to go and greet everybody else. This wasn't a large party or anything, just a small, friendly get-together with Avery's favorite people.
"Vee, darlin', c'mere," Theo Valentine motioned his daughter over. The man seemed to be talking with another man who had his head turned away from Avery.
Avery walked over, a curious smile plastered on her face. The mystery man turned around with a wide smile on his face and Avery instantly picked up her pace.
"MILES!"
Miles Teller and Avery Valentine had gotten super close over the duration of filming Top Gun: Maverick, but when Avery had to leave for Boston again, she barely saw him again. Unless she felt like FaceTiming him, but Miles was hopeless with 'technology these days'.
Theo grinned as he watched his daughter and co-worker converse. It was nice to see her grow a father-daughter bond with Miles, Theodore felt a little less stressed for if anything were to happen to him because he knew Miles would instantly help Elsie with the kids.
"Guys! This is Miles. Miles, these are my friends. You've met the triplets, of course," Avery grinned, introducing the thirty-five-year-old to her starstruck friends.
"Hello!" Miles chuckled, nodding toward Nick, Matt, and Chris in acknowledgement.
The teenagers quickly warmed up to the second movie star in the sister's backyard and soon the excited buzz had replaced the awestruck silence. Avery floated around, joining a few conversations whilst sipping on the raspberry lemonade her mother had earlier prepared.
Soon enough, it was time for dinner. Elsie Valentine had cooked up the most mouth-watering chicken alfredo. To say Avery loved chicken alfredo was an understatement. When the girl was younger and it was her choice of what to have for dinner, she would always pick chicken alfredo.
The teenagers and the rest of the Valentine family (plus Miles, of course) were seated around the long stretched table, each person with a filling portion of food in front of them. Avery smiled to herself as she realized she really did it. She really got into Yale.
She felt like Rory Gilmore. Minus the fact that Rory began to annoy Avery more and more throughout the seasons.
"Toast, toast, toast, toast, toast!"
Avery snapped out of her daze and turned her head to see her parents standing up with their wine glasses in hand. Avery Valentine snorted, laying her head on Jess' shoulder in embarrassment.
"Avery Jane. Boy, where do I start?" Theodore chuckled emotionally, smiling at his daughter.
"Maybe from yesterday!" Remi called out sarcastically, earning a playful slap to the arm from Zara.
Theo laughed at his son's joke but nodded, raising his wine glass up and raising his eyebrows at Avery. Avery grinned, lifting her head up to show she was paying full attention.
"When you first told me you wanted to go to Yale, I have to be honest, I nearly laughed in your face. But! I didn't. I held myself together and told you I was rooting for you. I really was, darlin'," Theodore paused, pulling his wife further into him.
"While watching you stress in high school wasn't my favorite, it was a little funny. I'm just so proud that you brought that all upon yourself. You made it your responsibility to do your absolute best in school, and you did. Elsie?"
Elsie smiled up at her emotional husband, continuing the speech with pride. "Watching you stay so determined and focused every day really made your dad and me proud. We never wanted to push you into much, so to say we were proud when you started doing your best in school is an understatement. Avery Jane, we are more than proud of you, sweetheart."
Zara whined loudly, wiping a small tear off of her cheek. "Zara! Don't cry. It's not like I'm getting married."
Remi shoved his oldest sister, a cheeky grin on his freckled face. Zara only smiled softly and shoved the younger boy back.
"To Avery!" Jess raised his glass of raspberry lemonade.
The rest of the group reacted happily. "To Avery!"
"One last thing. One last thing!"
The group refrained from eating, turning their attention to Theodore who grinned excitedly.
"As a 'congratulations' we're sending all of you kids to Greece for a week!"
"HOLY SHIT!" Avery shot up from her seat, running to hug her parents tightly. "Thank you, thank you, thank you!"
Theodore laughed heartily, embracing his daughter. "Of course! We're coming too, obviously, but we won't bother you, kids, as much."
