004.
004, TRY ME
AVERY VALENTINE GRUMPILY THREW on a blue sweater having woken up in the triplets' house. She was grumpy for two reasons, that linked to one person. One, Chris was mad at her when he was the one who broke a promise, and two, she woke up in said boy's room.
"Good morning, Avery," Chris chirped as he entered his room. There was a smile on his face but something about it didn't look so genuine.
Oh, so he wants to play this game now? The game where he assumes that she forgot about what happened last night. However, after last night, Avery had learnt that she wasn't a forgetful drinker.
"Why am I here?" She asked him, not giving in to his sweet act.
Chris's face fell as he realized that she had remembered the whole party drama. He sat at the end of his own bed, unsure if Avery would try to tackle him because of how angry she seemed.
"Well, I don't think you would forgive us if we brought you home to your parents drunk. Would you?" Chris reasoned with her.
"I doubt they'd care," she shrugged carelessly.
Avery went to stand up but winced at the sharp pain in her head. Oh, great, here comes the hangover.
Christopher noticed this and chuckled, he handed her the glass of water and painkiller that were held in his hand. "Here."
Avery sighed, taking the medication and liquid from his hands. She ignored his stare while she gulped down the tablet. Avery chugged down the rest of the cold water and let out a large sigh, falling dramatically back onto Chris's bed.
"Who's your blonde friend?" Avery lifted an eyebrow, there was just something about Christopher describing his type as a blonde in one of their car videos and then suddenly he actually got with a blonde female that just sparked an interest in Avery.
"Nobody," Chris was quick to respond, which only fueled Avery's curiosity more.
Avery sat up straight and stared straight into Chris's soul (at least that's what it felt like), she watched as he began to squirm under her inquisitive gaze. The boy rolled his eyes still not giving in. He's definitely still mad at her and her sudden attentiveness about his blonde friend was definitely not making him any more thrilled to talk to her.
"Y'know..." Avery began with a teasing smile plastered on her face. "I could always post on my story saying 'Chris Sturniolo has a blonde girlfriend, someone please help me find her' and see if she comes right to me."
Chris sighed, running his hand down his face. Avery was really throwing him over the edge right now and he didn't appreciate that. He turned away from her and took deep breaths, she wouldn't actually do that, would she?
"You wouldn't do that," Chris spoke, deciding against what his gut was telling him she would do. His back was still facing her, which meant he didn't catch her frantically typing into her phone.
Avery chuckled, her finger hovering over the 'Post' button. "Try me," she smirked just as he turned around, flipping the phone to face him. Chris felt his stomach fill with anxiety. She's just playing, there's no way she actually would.
"Avery, I swear to fuck," he seethed, clenching his jaw.
The freckle-faced girl pouted sarcastically, feeling more and more rebellious every second. Avery felt like she was capable of doing anything. Climbing Mount Everest right now? Easy peasy. Swimming in the middle of the ocean? Pfft, give her something harder. Standing in a thirty-hour queue to see an artist she didn't even want to see? Avery could do that, with no complaints.
There was nothing that could stop Avery from posting this story, after Chris had been mad at her for no reason yesterday, this was definitely a good form of payback. She should've been the mad one. He promised he would stick by her side for the whole night and then he disappeared, and suddenly he appeared out of nowhere and snatched her drink away from her? Who is he, her mother?
"Someone's calling you," Chris whispered. This was not a lie.
Avery rolled her eyes, not feeling the vibrations of her phone. "Bullshit," she glared at him. However, when Avery sceptically turned her phone to face her, she found out that someone actually was calling her.
There was no word in the human dictionary that could describe how embarrassed Avery was. She felt the blood rush to her cheeks, not only at her thinking Chris was lying but also because the caller was a familiar face from the other night. How did he get her number? Who knows, but either way Avery was not letting that phone ring any longer.
"Hello!" She chirped whilst walking out of Christopher's bedroom, leaving the boy standing there dumbfounded.
As Avery chatted with the blonde from the night before, Matthew and Nicolas crept into their brother's room. They watched as he pulled out his phone and typed something very quickly. After having spotted his triplet brothers watching him, Chris shoved his phone back into his pocket and invited them into his bedroom.
"Who's Vee talking to?" Nick curiously asked, taking a seat on Chris's unmade bed.
Matt grinned to himself, seeing how happy the girl seemed when she walked past him a minute ago helped him figure out who she was talking to. "Elliot."
Chris furrowed his eyebrows, who the fuck is Elliot and why does Matt know him? Apparently, he didn't just say that in his head because Matt seemed startled by Chris's outburst of a question.
"Ohh, he's that kid I pushed her into, no?"
"That's Elliot!" Matt confirmed with a smile.
Once again, Chris dumbfoundedly stared at his brother. Since when did Matt have friends that weren't also his and Nick's? Christopher sighed, seating himself in his spinny office chair and spinning around with a frown. While Chris was deep in thought, Avery re-entered the room grinning like a Cheshire cat.
"I'm going out!" She called, holding a bundle of her own clothes that she had left in Nick's closet earlier that month. "Matthew, I need my stylist," she beamed, running toward the bathroom.
Matt smiled softly, taking his time to walk towards the already locked bathroom door. He stood patiently, waiting for Avery to give him a 'fashion show' as she always did when an important event was coming up. In this case, the important event was a date... and it was in two hours!
After multiple outfit changes, thousands of complaints from Avery, and Matt telling her numerous times: 'dress for yourself, not the dude!', Avery finally had an outfit. With an hour to spare.
"Voilà!" Avery laughed as she stiffly spun around. She wore a cropped, linen corset with a ribbon to hold it in place at the front, along with beige-colored denim jeans.
Matt clapped with a broad grin while also sighing with relief that the one-hour process was finally over. Avery rushed around the Sturniolo household, she found the toiletries bag, that Nick forgetfully shoved into his closet, which was filled with lip glosses, perfumes and more.
Avery threw on her black Converse and lightly curled her hair with Marylou's straighteners. Finally, she was ready for her date with Elliot and had ten minutes left on the clock. An Avery Valentine record.
"Okay, have fun, but not too much fun. Only kiss him if you want, be polite, don't be an idiot, and finally, beat his ass in all the games!" Nick gave the very nervous Avery a pep talk.
Avery nodded, a nervous smile displaying on her features. She anxiously rubbed her hands together waiting for a knock at the door. Chris, who was watching from the hallway rolled his eyes and leaned on the wall.
He sighed loudly to announce his presence. "It's not that deep, just act normal," he added to Nick's date advice.
"Gee, thanks. Super helpful!" Avery enthusiastically smiled at him before going back to a straight face. Chris rolled his eyes and walked away, at least he tried.
"Good luck, don't scare him away with your face in daylight!" Chris called back as he walked away.
Avery's lips parted at the insult, that hurt a little. Nick sighed at his brother's visible jealousy (to everyone but Avery, apparently) and placed a hand on Avery's shoulder. The boy looked into her worried eyes and smiled reassuringly.
"You're going to be fine, Vee. No need to stress, okay? If you need us, we're just a call away."
The Valentine girl smiled up at him, embracing Nick in a hug. Seconds later, there was a knock at the door. Avery squealed, unable to shake the jitters she had. She waited for ten seconds before opening the door.
"Hey, you look great!" Elliot grinned as he stood on the Sturniolo's porch, sunflowers in hand. "These are for you, by the way."
Avery gasped happily, taking the gorgeous flowers from the blonde boy's hands. She handed them to Nick who said he would put them in a vase, Avery and Elliot began their short walk to his car.
Just as she was a meter away from the car, Avery realized she left her purse inside. "I'm so sorry, I just need to grab my purse! I won't be long," she apologized to Elliot before dashing back toward the front door.
As Avery entered the kitchen to grab her purse off of the kitchen island, she found Christopher picking apart her sunflowers. Avery gasped softly at the scene unfolding in front of her eyes.
"Chris! What the fuck!" She exclaimed whilst storming over to him and snatching the one, untouched, sunflower from his grip.
Christopher smiled guiltily. "Oops, didn't realize they were yours," he teased.
Avery felt tears sting her eyes, why was she crying over this? She inhaled deeply, scowling at Chris. After realizing that standing there and glaring at him wasn't going to do enough damage, Avery lunged at the boy.
Chris yelled as he was tackled off of his stool and onto the ground, the stool made a loud clank as it hit the floor which caused Nick to wildly swung his door open with his bug zapper in hand.
He gasped at Avery and Chris rolling around on the floor trying to fight each other. Actually, it was more Avery trying to swing on Chris and Chris holding her hands back. Nick shook his head, placing the bug racket on the bench and pulling Avery away from Chris.
By now, the girls hair was a frizzy mess and there were tears streaming down her recently powdered face. She cried into Nick's chest, feeling his comforting arms wrap around her frame. Chris stood still, not having enough courage to say anything. He watched as Nick glanced at the yellow petals that littered the island counter, Nick widened his eyes and glared at Chris.
Matt jogged down the hallway, wondering why the house went from extremely loud to silent. He looked at the counter in the middle of the kitchen and then peered at Chris who stood there with a remorseful expression.
"Dude..." Matt trailed off, brushing past his brother to comfort Avery.
Nick held Avery's head in his warm hands, wiping the tears that were still falling. "Let's clean your face, yeah?" He suggested, still hoping she'd want to go on her date.
Avery nodded, not even sparing Chris a glance as she walked past him. Matt shook his head in disappointment and disappeared outside to apologize to Elliot for how long Avery was taking. Chris sat in the kitchen, pondering his actions. He knew he was in the wrong, he just didn't know if he wanted to admit it.
Chris collected all the yellow petals off of the island and placed them in a container. He took the container into his room, locking the door during the process. Chris slid open his window and clambered across the large tree, sliding open Avery's window that was across from his. He rolled into her room with the petal box, only to be met by Zara Valentine's legs.
Zara took a step back and stared down at Chris. "Can I help you?" She questioned him.
"Look, I hurt Avery's feelings and I'm trying to do a little... art project to say sorry. Could you leave her room?" He explained, bracing for the girl's answer.
"Your apology better work because dealing with grumpy Avery is not fun."
Chris's eyes sparkled with emotion, he hugged Zara in thanks before shoving her out of his best friend's room. Chris grinned to himself as he locked the door and started his 'project'.
