Jisoo died in I Need U. That much was established. How she died, still remained a mystery. None of the fans knew how or when. Run was a flashback M/V of them having great memories together. But also how each one coped with her death. Now, its complicated but a sad story. Full of love, anger and depression.
Each boy in the story grew up together with Jisoo. She was basically their light in their darken world.
Namjoon was pretty much on his own, Taehyung grew up with an abusive dad who would hit his mother almost every night, Jimin was a bit depressed, Hoseok was dealing with substance abuse, Jin tried to take care of each of them as best as he could, Yoongi was dealing with anger issues and Jungkook was just looking for someone to call his family.
Jisoo's case was that she was also dealing with abusive parents. Her mother and father would fight non-stop. Screams were heard through all hours of the night. Sometimes, her father's anger would tun towards her.
But her mother protected her each time. Making her feel guilty about her mother taking all of his hits.
So she ran away. Not the most logical thing to do but her house wasn't a home anymore. So for a while, she lived on her own in an abandoned warehouse. Where the couches were lined up in a circle and there was a make shift fire place in the middle.
She met the boys sometime after she ran away. And slowly, each one fell in love with her. In different ways. Jin loved her like she was his own daughter. He wanted to protect her and her innocence.
Namjoon loved her like a sister. But the ones who fell deeply in love with her were Hoseok, Yoongi, Jungkook, Jimin and Taehyung.
Coming from a broken home, Taehyung wanted to protect her. He would go as far as to hurt anyone who even looked at her the wrong way.
Yoongi, also. Though he would kill anyone who hurts her. Because she had grown so attached to him, he saw her as the only good thing in his life (besides the rest).
Hoseok, Jimin and Jungkook wanted to give her all their love that they never knew existed in them. They wanted to love her. They all wanted to love her. Because that was the only thing they could love at the time. Her.
You are my only sun, one and only in the world
I bloomed for you, but I'm still getting thirsty
It's too late, too late, I can't live without you
Though my branch runs dry, I reach for you with all my strength
In the music video, Jisoo is primarily wearing the color white. As I mentioned before, white represents death in some cultures. Like in Japan, people would dress in white at funerals. Or they would dress the dead in white. Jisoo is also wearing a white rose hair pin in her hair most of the music video. The party scene in the beginning, Jisoo and Yoongi are seen together the most. She's having fun, dancing, yelling with her oppas. But how? she's dead. The theory goes (this connects to the BST timeline theory) she's not there. She's not really there because she's been long gone.
None of them realize it yet. Nor do they want to. They didn't care because as long as they had her with them, they would gladly keep running in place. No matter if it hurts or how foolish they look chasing an imagination. They won't accept her passing.
No matter how far I reach for you,
It is just an empty dream dream dream
No matter how crazy I run,
I remain on the same place place place
Just burn me! Yes, push me out!
This is crazy-fool's love running
The pain was worth it. They would go through hell to get her back. But no matter what, she's not coming back. And that pains them.
The scene where Jin made the house of cards as it flashed to Taehyung and Namjoon running from the police. Notice how his face turns blank as Taehyung knocks it down. Memories of all of them running through a field together, having fun flashed in his head. All of them including Jisoo, herself. But she wasn't wearing white like earlier. She was in regular clothes. Alive and well.
Jin realizes that she is in fact dead and this was all messed up. He was the first one to realize that. But he runs away from that thought, not quite accepting her passing.
Please let me run more
Even though my feet are full of scars
I smile whenever I see you
Like I said before, each boy had their own problems. Yoongi was anger. Jungkook was loneliness. Jimin and Hoseok was depression. Taehyung was that he was a ticking time bomb. But the only thing that would keep them smiling was Jisoo. Because she was their safe haven from their own demons. So they run to her. Even if its useless, they still run.
Only thing I can do is run
Only thing I can do is love you
In the scene where they were all having a pillow fight, Jisoo gets hit the least. But she still gets hit. Then when Jimin and Hoseok laid on the feathers, Jisoo is right there in the middle with them. But this time, she's wearing that white rose hair clip.
Now the scene turns to Yoongi, who's angry and drunk. He's drunk and unaware. Fans had theorized that this was something that drove her away from them. Yoongi drinks heavier than usual, meaning he's more angry than usual and more violent. Because he starts to destroy everything in his sight. He yells, curses, breaks stuff and breaks mirrors.
Jungkook tries to calm him down by hugging him but all he does is shove him roughly against the wall. Jisoo, scared that this would turn violent, tried to grab Yoongi's arm but he accidentally swings it and hits her, making her hit her shoulder on a near by mirror. Breaking it in the process.
Yoongi looked in horror at what he just did. All he could do was stare at her. He never wanted to hurt her. He never wanted to let her see his demons. He felt as if he broke her. Jungkook snapped. All he saw was red. He caused pain to the one thing he loved. So he punched Yoongi in the face, causing them to fight.
Somewhere in the midst of them, Jisoo was gone. As if she wasn't there to begin with. Jungkook noticed that after Yoongi left him sitting on the floor in that abandoned house. It was then, he also realized that...she's been gone this whole time. And what he and the others are doing to deal with that is not right.
Let's run run run again! It's ok to fall down
Let's run run run again! It's ok to be injured
Any scenes where the group as a whole are having fun, those were flash backs. Jisoo, being the center of all of them, is seen having a smile on her face, laying on Jimin's lap. Running everywhere, causing mischief. Those were the days they missed the most. Jisoo is the girl they're talking about in the song.
I am happy enough even though I can't get you
Curse me, this foolish destiny!
Jisoo knows that she won't be able to pass on unless they let her pass on. She can't let them go. She doesn't want to let them go. It's foolish and a waste. They won't let her go, either. She's not a peace because she loves them so much and vice versa. But she knows there will come a time that she will be able to pass on and her oppas won't need her to help them move on.
Everybody say it is over but I can't stop this
I can't tell whether it is sweat or tears
My bare-love and tough typhoon and wind
Can only make me run more with my heart
The scene where they are all in the middle of traffic, Jisoo is in the car with Jin. She watches with a smile as they wreck cars, yell, taunt the drivers. Until it was time for them to run away. Jin drove off as the boys ran after the truck to safety, Jisoo looks out the window at Jungkook as they all pile in. He looks back at her as if he was confused. Like she wasn't supposed to be there.
The last scene where each member is walking away from the truck, Jisoo is still in there. Jungkook looks back at her as the rest continues to walk away. He was the only one willing to say his goodbye to her. He was the only one willing to admit that she was gone. Everyone else held onto her. Like she was still around. Believing that she'll come back again. But Jungkook knew better.
He knew that someday he would be able to convince his hyungs to do the same. Let her go. But he knew it was gonna be an up hill battle. (A/N: Hence Spring Day)
As the camera showed Jisoo looking behind her from inside the truck, she gave Jungkook a smile. To which, he did the same to her. Saying his goodbye to her. Also promising that he'll help them as much as he can. Because he knows that her love, dead or alive, still ran through all of their veins. And that was enough to keep him running. Jungkook knows it was enough to keep the boys running.
Please guide me please stop me
Please let me breathe
Don't tell me, don't tell me
Don't tell me bye bye
