Chapter - 20

Jackson sat across from Namjoon, a cup of tea in his hand, his curiosity piqued by the envelope he had noticed. Eager to satisfy his inquisitiveness, he questioned, "What was in that envelope?"

Namjoon took a thoughtful sip of his tea before responding, "My number card."

A look of confusion crossed Jackson's face as he questioned Namjoon's decision, "Why would you give her your number? Especially considering she firmly stated that we can't find the killer?"

"She knows something about the killer and she is going to find him by herself," Namjoon asserted, his tone laden with conviction. The statement caught Jackson off guard, causing him to nearly spill his coffee in surprise.

"Isn't that dangerous? Something could happen to her," Jackson exclaimed, his voice laced with concern and bewilderment.

Namjoon nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. "That's why I gave her my number. Just in case," he explained, emphasizing the importance of their connection and the precautionary measure he had taken.

"Is there no way to stop her?" he asked, his voice tinged with worry as his brow furrowed in concern. "She is going to get herself in danger."

Namjoon sighed, his own unease showing in the furrow of his brow. "I know," he replied. "All I can do is tell her. I don't know if she is going to listen and stop this." The weight of the situation settled heavily on his shoulders, knowing that despite his best efforts, he may not be able to prevent her from putting herself at risk.

The room fell into a heavy silence as they both contemplated the possible consequences of her actions. Jackson glanced out the window, feeling a sense of helplessness wash over him. "I hope she comes to her senses before it's too late," he muttered, a sense of urgency in his voice. Namjoon nodded grimly, his mind already racing with thoughts of how to protect her from harm.

"In the bustling cafeteria, Jimin facepalmed himself, frustrated as his patience wearing thin. "Will you stop sighing? It's annoying," he snapped, irritation evident in his tone. Taehyung, on the other hand, shot him a glare in response, feeling defensive.

"What? Is it my fault you fought with her?" Jimin questioned, his voice tinged with impatience as he tried to make sense of the situation.

"What she did was wrong-" Taehyung's attempt to explain was quickly cut off by Jimin's pointed remark, highlighting the need for accountability.

"Don't you think what you did was wrong? Just go and apologize already," Jimin urged, his tone firm and resolute. The clatter of trays and lively conversations provided a backdrop to their heated conversation, emphasizing the urgency of resolving the conflict.

"She is not here," he said, glancing at her friends seated at the table.

"Go to her room then," he advised, urging him to take the first step towards reconciliation.

His hesitation was met with a blunt response as the pressure mounted. "But why should I apologize, isn't it her fau-" Taehyung started, attempting to assign blame elsewhere. However, before he could finish his sentence, Jimin interrupted with a final warning, his voice raised in frustration.

"You know what? do whatever you want. But, don't come to me crying at the end," Jimin's words hung in the air, a stark reminder of the consequences of inaction. With a heavy sigh, he rose from his seat, walking away with purpose. The sudden tension had not gone unnoticed by others as curious gazes lingered on their now vacant table, leaving a palpable sense of unease in the air.

"What are you doing here this late?" Jungkook inquired, stepping to the edge of the rooftop where Y/N stood. They were both enveloped by the quiet night, the city lights twinkling below.

"None of your business. Why are you here anyway? To kill me- Oh wait! I am the killer," Y/N retorted, their voice laced with bitterness, still stewing over Taehyung's hurtful words.

"Huh? What are you- Did Taehyung-ssi say that?" Jungkook's confusion turned to realization as he pieced together the situation. Concern etched into his features, he reached out to Y/N.

"Will you just leave me alone?" her voice trembled with anger, the mention of his name amplifying her frustration.

"That's the reason you two fought, right?" Jungkook's question hung in the air, a gentle probing that sought to uncover the root of their conflict.

"Are you stalking me?" Y/N's tone was sharp, suspicion creeping into her words as she confronted Jungkook's knowledge of the situation.

"I saw him looking for you at your friend's table. I don't need to stalk you to understand you two fought." Jungkook's explanation was calm and matter-of-fact, reassurance underlying his words.

"Just because he looks at my friends?" Y/N's disbelief colored her response as she coffed, the complexities of their disagreement coming into sharper focus.

"Jimin-ssi won't yell at him 'Don't come to me crying at the end' for no reason anyway. And he didn't even touch his food," Jungkook remarked, observing the uneaten meal in front of Taehyung. A sense of concern lingered in the air.

"Maybe he is not hungry," Y/N suggested, offering a simple explanation for Taehyung's lack of appetite.

"You are not too. And it's natural not to be hungry when you fight with your loved ones," Jungkook remarked, his gaze shifting to Y/N. The remark hit a nerve, bringing forth irritation from Y/N as she pushed back against the scrutiny, a blend of emotions swirling beneath the surface.

"What-" Y/N started to respond, but Jungkook interjected, refusing to let her finish her sentence.

"Can't you see he cares about you, Y/N-ssi?" Jungkook's voice held a hint of exasperation, his words filled with conviction.

"He doesn't. He already said that," Y/N's tone was flat, her belief in Taehyung's feelings shaken, remembering their argument from earlier.

"You are stupid, aren't you," Jungkook scoffed, an edge of frustration in his voice. "The only one he cares about is you. He loves you."

"No, he doesn't," Y/N's response lacked conviction, her voice taking on a monotone quality as she denied the possibility of Taehyung's love. The weight of her doubts and insecurities hovered in the air, casting a cloud of uncertainty over their conversation.

"It's what you want to believe. Y/N, Listen to me," Jungkook pleaded, his voice filled with earnestness as he held her by her shoulders.

"When you love someone, you should cherish every small moment with them. Or later you will regret it," He said as he looked at her with a small, pained smile, as if every word he spoke carried a deep, personal significance. His eyes shimmered with unshed tears, a testament to the weight of his emotions.

"It's him who-" Y/N began, ready to argue her point once more, but the interrupted by Jungkook.

"It's because he wanted to protect you, Y/N. Why can't you understand it?" Jungkook's frustration boiled over as he raised his voice, his emotions pouring out in his words.

"I-" Y/N attempted to interject, her voice faltering.

"I'm sorry. I just- you girls never understand our pain, do you?" Jungkook sighed, a mixture of exasperation and resignation tainting his tone.

Caught off guard by the sudden shift in the conversation, Y/N took a deep breath before gathering the courage to ask the question that had been lingering in her mind. "Can I ask you something?" she ventured, her voice slightly trembling. Jungkook nodded, signaling his willingness to listen.

"What happened to your girlfriend? Did you guys... break up?" she inquired, her curiosity mingled with a hint of concern for him.

"She died," Jungkook answered, his gaze fixated on the distant night sky.

"Oh, I'm sorry," Y/N expressed her condolences, her voice filled with genuine sympathy.

"It's okay. It's not your fault anyway," Jungkook replied, his tone tinged with resignation. Sensing the need for privacy, he gestured for Y/N to return to her room. She nodded understandingly and began walking away, leaving him to his thoughts.

After some time had passed, Jungkook's keen hearing detected the sound of approaching footsteps. Without needing to turn around, he spoke with a sense of certainty, acknowledging the presence of the person behind him. "She has already gone to her room," he informed, his voice calm and matter-of-fact.

"How do you-" Taehyung began, his eyes widening in shock.

"Isn't it obvious that you are in love with her, Taehyung-ssi?" Jungkook interrupted, a knowing look in his eyes.

"It's none of your concern," Taehyung replied curtly, attempting to dismiss the topic.

Jungkook let out a weary sigh, frustration etched on his face. "God, I'm not a cupid," he muttered, his own agitation evident. "Just tell her about your feelings already."

"What?" Taehyung's voice held a mix of surprise and confusion, caught off guard by Jungkook's insistence.

"Come on, hyung-" Jungkook began, but Taehyung quickly interjected.

"I am not your hyung," Taehyung stated firmly, feeling the need to clarify their relationship dynamics.

"Whatever," Jungkook exhaled in frustration, his voice tinged with exasperation. "You have to tell her how you feel for her. She loves-"

"No, she doesn't," Taehyung interrupted, his tone filled with a mix of denial and resignation.

"Argh... why are you two saying the same thing," Jungkook groaned, feeling the weight of their shared stubbornness in that moment. "Look, if you two have a problem, just talk it out. Don't make it worse than it already is."

"I don't need your opinion," Taehyung retorted, his voice laced with defiance and a hint of sadness. The distance between them seemed to grow, an unspoken divide widening as their disagreement remained unresolved.

"Why are you always like this to me?" Jungkook's voice held a tinge of frustration, his emotions on edge. Feeling defeated and devoid of any hope for understanding, he concluded, "Argh, there is no use in telling you all this." He muttered, turning away and starting to walk towards his room.

"But..." Jungkook abruptly halted his steps, turning to face Taehyung. Determination flickered in his eyes as he took a deep breath, gathering the courage to speak his heart out.

"Please don't end up like me two years ago, hyung," Jungkook pleaded, his voice filled with a mix of vulnerability and concern. His gaze, intense and piercing, locked onto Taehyung's eyes, searching for a connection that reached beyond mere words.

Taehyung stood there, his own eyes widening with a mix of surprise and contemplation. The memories of events that transpired two years ago surged through his mind, causing a mix of emotions to wash over him. Uncertainty mingled with a flicker of introspection, stirring something within him that he hadn't fully acknowledged until this moment.
