Chapter - 17

As one week passed by with exams quickly approaching, the tension in the library was palpable as students buried themselves in their books and notes. Yuna, feeling parched, turned to her friend Y/N with a hopeful look. "Y/N, do you have water with you?" she asked, her voice tinged with urgency.

Y/N shook her head apologetically. "Mine is empty," she replied, empathizing with her friend's need for hydration.

"Aish, then I will go and get some water," Yuna murmured, determination in her eyes as she grabbed the empty bottle and swiftly made her way outside the library, the sound of her footsteps fading away. Left alone at the table, Y/N refocused on her studies, the soft rustle of pages turning and the occasional cough or pencil scratch filling the ambient noise of the library.

After some time, a high-pitched scream pierced through the quiet atmosphere of the library, causing textbooks to slam shut and heads to turn in alarm. Beomgyu and Y/N shared a concerned glance before springing into action, bolting outside with the rest of the library patrons trailing behind them.

"Yuna," Y/N shouted, her voice filled with worry as she spotted her friend lying on the ground. Ignoring the chaos around her, she rushed to Yuna's side, her heart pounding in her chest.

"Yuna," Beomgyu called out, kneeling down beside her and gently shaking her in an attempt to rouse her. The air was thick with tension as everyone held their breath, their focus solely on the scene unfolding before them.

Yuna slowly opened her eyes, her panicked gaze darting around as she tried to make sense of her surroundings. "What happened?" Jimin's concerned voice cut through the tension as he reached their side, his eyes scanning Yuna's pale face.

"I... I saw someone," Yuna stuttered, her voice trembling with fear as she tried to articulate the unsettling experience.

"It must be the cleaner or someone," Eunwoo offered, trying to rationalize the situation and ease the growing unease in the group.

"No, it's not. He was covered in black with a mask, and... ah, he had blue eyes," Yuna's words came out in a rushed blur, causing a shiver to run down Y/N's spine as she listened to her friend's chilling description. The library fell silent, the gravity of Yuna's words hanging heavy in the air, leaving everyone on edge.

"Where did you see him?," Y/N asked urgently, the worry evident in her voice as she locked eyes with Yuna. The rest of the group looked at her, their expressions a mix of concern and determination.

"I was taking water when I saw a pair of shoes between the door. So I walked towards it, and he got shocked and sprayed something. So I screamed and everything blacked out," Yuna explained, her voice shaky as she recounted the harrowing encounter.

"Guys, search this place," Y/N commanded, her tone firm and resolute as she took charge, the urgency in her voice spurring everyone into action.

"What? Why?" Taehyung asked, his confusion evident as he looked to Y/N for an explanation.

"Just do it," Y/N replied firmly, her sense of urgency not diminishing as she urged the students to start searching the library. With a sense of unity and purpose, everyone spread out, combing through the library in search of any trace of the mysterious figure that had left Yuna shaken.

"There is no one here,"

"Nothing in here,"

"Here too,"

"Same,"

"Same here"

The words echoed from different corners of the room, signaling a fruitless quest for any remaining traces of the mysterious intruder. The collective disappointment weighed heavily on Y/N, the tension lingering in the room despite the lack of a visible threat.

Y/N's eyes scanned the room once more, searching desperately for a specific person, a twisted knot of anxiety and hope forming in her stomach. Every corner seemed to blur together as she prayed silently to find him. But, to her disappointment, he was nowhere to be found among the students.

A wave of unease washed over her as the realization settled in. The absence of this person only added to her doubts and heightened her concerns. She wondered if there was a connection between his absence and the unsettling events that had unfolded. The weight of uncertainty settled heavily upon her shoulders as she struggled to come to terms with the situation, her mind racing with questions and unanswered doubts.

"Yuna, after all the chaos happening in the campus, you are just seeing things. Just relax," Jaehyun's voice cut through the tense atmosphere, his words a reminder of the recent unsettling events that had plagued the campus. The memory of the two tragic deaths weighed heavily on everyone, casting a shadow of suspicion and doubt over Yuna's claim.

Y/N sat in front of her mirror, the cool bristles of the comb gliding through her hair as she absentmindedly worked through the strands. As the repetitive motion of grooming calmed her mind, her gaze shifted to the reflection staring back at her from the mirror. A sudden lull in her thoughts allowed the memories of a specific incident to resurface, causing her brows to furrow and her contemplation to deepen.

Her mind began to replay the events, each detail crystallizing in her consciousness. The lines on her forehead deepened as her thoughts grew more introspective, the weight of the incident settling in the quiet of her room.

FLASHBACK

Y/N and her friends were walking together towards their classroom, their footsteps echoing through the hallway as they engaged in casual conversation. Just as they reached the entrance, their progress was interrupted by a voice calling out to Y/N.

"Y/N," someone called, catching her attention. She turned to see Mrs. Park, the librarian, standing nearby, a smile on her face.

"Good morning, Mrs. Park," Y/N greeted politely, returning the smile.

"Good morning, Y/N. Can you do me a favor and return this book to the library?" Mrs. Park requested, holding out a book towards her.

"Sure," Y/N nodded, her willingness evident as she accepted the book from the librarian's hand. With a brief goodbye to her friends, she made her way towards the library, her steps determined and purposeful.

As Y/N stepped inside the library, a sense of tranquility washed over her. The impeccably arranged shelves and the soft lighting created a peaceful ambiance. However, her focus shifted when she realized the library was unusually empty. She cautiously made her way into the library hall, her footsteps echoing softly.

Her search for Jin led her deeper into the quiet expanse, her eyes scanning the rows of bookshelves meticulously. Just as she was about to call out his name, a sudden collision sent her and a mysterious person crashing to the ground. Startled, she looked up, her annoyance evident in her voice.

"Yah, can't you see where you're going?" Y/N asked, her gaze locked on the person who had clumsily bumped into her. But before she could get a good look at him, he hurriedly scrambled to his feet and darted towards the library door, casting quick and nervous glances back at her. A feeling of curiosity mixed with unease washed over her as she watched him disappear, leaving her with unanswered questions.

'As Y/N turned around, she came face to face with Jungkook, a puzzled expression etched on his face. His quickened breath indicated that he had hurried to reach her.

"Um... Jungkook ssi?" Y/N responded, still trying to process the encounter with Sehun and the questions lingering in her mind.

"What are you doing here?" Jungkook asked, his brows furrowing with genuine curiosity and concern.

"I..." Y/N hesitated, uncertain of how much to reveal.

"Who is there?" A voice interrupted them, drawing their attention to the side. They turned to see Jaemin, one of their classmates, looking at them with a mix of surprise and curiosity.

"Ah, you two? What are you doing here during class time?" Jaemin questioned, a slight tilt of confusion in his voice.

Y/N quickly composed herself, holding up the book in her hand. "Ah, Jaemin ssi, Mrs. Park asked me to bring this book back to the library. Do you happen to know where Jin ssi is?"

"Give it to me, I will tell him when he comes back," he spoke with a warm smile, his eyes reflecting a glimmer of excitement.

"Oh, ok. Here," she responded, handing over the book before gracefully departing from the scene, showing little interest in engaging with Jungkook.

The soft light filtered through the large windows, casting a warm glow over the rows of bookshelves as she walked away.

As thoughts of the unsettling events flooded her mind, a sense of unease settled within her. Lost in her contemplation, she was startled by Yuna's urgent call. "Y/N!," Yuna's voice broke through her reverie.

"What?," Y/N responded, her attention snapped back to the present, confusion evident in her tone.

"I have been calling you for half an hour," Yuna's voice carried a touch of concern.

"Oh, sorry. I just spaced out," Y/N murmured, realizing her inattentiveness.

"Are you alright? You look troubled," Yuna observed, her gaze probing.

"I'm fine. Well, how about you?" Y/N deflected, attempting to shift the focus away from her own turmoil.

"Yeah, I'm good. Don't worry about me," she said, mustering a reassuring smile while catching her own reflection in the mirror.

"So... actually why did you call me?" Y/N inquired, curiosity lighting up her eyes as she turned her attention towards Yuna.

"Oh, that? You didn't even realize I came back. Then I asked, 'Weren't you going to sleep?' but you didn't respond," Yuna explained, a hint of amusement lacing her words.

"Ah, my bad...," Y/N trailed off, a mix of embarrassment and realization washing over her as she realized the extent of her distraction.

"So, aren't you going to sleep? We have class tomorrow," Yuna gently reminded, settling herself onto the comfort of her bed.

"Um- yeah, yeah I am going to sleep. Goodnight," Y/N replied, a touch of fatigue evident in her voice as she prepared herself to retire for the night.

"Goodnight," Yuna echoed, her voice filled with warmth as she bid her friend farewell, both of them now ready to embrace the restful embrace of slumber.

Deep down, she harbored a burning desire to pry Yuna for more details about the mysterious man she had saw this morning. If her intuition was correct, it could be the elusive killer they had been hearing about. However, she was reluctant to uncover the truth as she was afraid that the murderer could be someone they knew. The thought of causing fear or discomfort in Yuna stopped her from directly addressing the topic. As sleep gradually overtook her, she made a silent vow to find an alternative approach, determined to unravel the truth without unsettling her friend.
