Chapter - 7

Taehyung's heart pounded in his chest as he sprinted up the stairs, the sound of his footsteps echoing off the walls. He could hear Y/N's footsteps getting closer and closer, pushing him to run even faster. But in his haste, he missed a turn and found himself faced with a dead-end.

"Stop- please- let me breathe-" Taehyung gasped, his chest heaving as he doubled over, hands on his knees. Y/N's figure loomed closer, her eyes locking in a tense stare. The adrenaline still pulsed through Taehyung's veins, but he knew he couldn't keep running forever. He had to face whatever came next.

Gasping for air, Y/N collapsed onto the ground, her chest rising and falling heavily as she tried to regain control of her breathing. Taehyung, his heart still racing, approached her slowly and sank down beside her. The two of them sat in silence, the tension thick in the air as they caught their breath.

After a few moments, Taehyung turned to Y/N, his eyes searching hers. "How did you find out it was me?" he questioned, his voice soft yet filled with curiosity. Y/N met his gaze, her breathing steadying as she considered her response. The rooftop was eerily quiet, the only sound being the faint rush of wind and the echo of their breaths.

"Who else is there to annoy me all the time other than you?" Y/N asked, rolling her eyes playfully as she finally caught her breath. Taehyung chuckled softly, his eyes gleaming with amusement as he looked at her.

"I see...," he trailed off, slowly pushing himself up from the ground and giving her a sly smirk. Y/N raised an eyebrow, a smirk mirroring his own forming on her lips.

"What?" she asked, curiosity lacing her tone. Taehyung's smirk widened as he held up his phone, showing her the screen.

"So stalker... huh?" he teased, a mischievous glint in his eyes as he revealed that he had been checking her phone all along.

"How dare you check my phone. Give it back!" Y/N exclaimed, her voice laced with mock outrage as she lunged towards Taehyung in an attempt to retrieve her phone.

"No way, stalker," Taehyung taunted, holding the phone just out of reach, a teasing glint in his eyes as he watched her try to grab it.

"I'm not a stalker," Y/N protested, jumping up in a comical effort to reach the elusive device.

"Yeah sure. Then why do you have this many photos of Jungkook in your gallery?" Taehyung asked, chuckling as he teased her with a knowing look.

"I- it's none of your business. Now give it back," she retorted, a hint of blush creeping onto her cheeks as she tried to snatch the phone from Taehyung's grasp.

"Or what, shorty?" Taehyung teased, slowly backing away from Y/N with a mischievous grin.

But as he stepped back, Taehyung stumbled and lost his balance, nearly toppling over. "Hey... careful," Y/N exclaimed, reaching out to steady him, but their movements only resulted in them both losing their balance and tumbling to the ground together.

With a thud, Taehyung ended up on top of Y/N, their bodies tense with surprise at the unexpected turn of events. The rooftop fell silent, the only sound being their shallow breaths as they remained frozen in the moment, unsure of how to react to their sudden closeness. Time seemed to stand still as they lay there, their hearts racing with a mix of shock and uncertainty.

"Eonnie, get up. You can't be like this for the rest of your life," her friend tried to cheer her up when she heard a knock on the door.

She walked towards the door and opened it only to see two guys standing there with worried expressions.

"Hey, Ryujin. How is she?" one of them asked her friend, concern evident in his voice. The girl watched the interaction, feeling a sense of ease at the familiar faces.

"I don't know. She is not talking. You try yourself," Ryujin said to one of the guys before opening the door wide open, revealing their presence to the unknown girl.

"Eonnie, Sehun oppa, and Soobin are here," Ryujin announced as she walked towards her.

"Come on Jennie, it's not your fault. Get up, let's go outside," Sehun urged, settling down beside Jennie, offering a supportive presence in her time of distress.

"Soobin-ah, why don't you dance for eonnie?" Ryujin suggested, a mischievous glint in her eyes.

"Anything for my noona," Soobin replied with a playful smile before breaking into a few silly dance moves. Laughter bubbled out of Jennie as she watched his entertaining performance, feeling a momentary relief from the heaviness that had consumed her.

"Finally... someone smiled," Sehun remarked warmly, pinching Jennie's cheeks gently. The small gesture of affection brought a blush to her cheeks, grateful for the supportive presence of her friends.

"Are you saying the murder didn't turn out as the killer planned?" Namjoon questioned, his eyebrows knitted together in a deep frown. The room fell silent as everyone absorbed his words, the weight of the revelation sinking in.

"Yes. We found traces of drugs in her system during the postmortem examination," Hoseok confirmed, his gaze shifting from one person to another in the room. "Additionally, she sustained a head injury, possibly caused by a blunt object such as a vase. The injury occurred approximately fifteen minutes prior to her death."

"So, what are you trying to say?" Jackson asked, his voice filled with a mix of confusion and concern. Hoseok took a brief pause, his eyes scanning the room as he carefully chose his words.

"So, my theory is, the killer had given her drugs to make her unconscious and took her somewhere," Hoseok explained, his voice heavy with the weight of his deduction. "When she woke up, she must have tried to escape..."

"...and that's when the killer struck her with a vase, causing her to fall and later he stabbed her," Namjoon interjected, his voice filled with a mix of horror and realization. He glanced at Hoseok, seeking confirmation.

Hoseok nodded solemnly, acknowledging Namjoon's deduction. The room was filled with a tense silence as they absorbed the chilling sequence of events, painting a gruesome picture of the victim's desperate struggle for survival, thwarted by a ruthless and calculated killer.

"If it is what happened, then the killer is an insider," Jackson asserted, the intensity of his voice cutting through the silence in the room.

Jackson furrowed his brows, seeking clarification. "How could you say that?" Namjoon inquired, his curiosity piqued by Jackson's statement. Everyone turned their attention towards Jackson, awaiting his explanation, their minds eager to unravel the intricate web of this perplexing case.

"Why?" Namjoon inquired, his brows furrowing with curiosity.

Jackson took a moment to gather his thoughts before presenting his analysis. "Her friend Jennie mentioned that she had gone outside approximately two hours before the murder," he began, the pieces of the puzzle starting to come together. "This leads me to believe that the killer must have administered the drug by diluting it in a drink themselves. It seems unlikely that the victim would willingly accept a drink from a stranger."

The room fell into a thoughtful silence as they processed the implications of Jackson's reasoning. The details began to align, deepening their understanding of the meticulous planning and sinister nature of the crime. As they delved further into the investigation, their focus honed on uncovering the identity and motives of the perpetrator responsible for such a calculated and brutal act.

"If she wakes up and ran to the campus, the killer must have hidden her somewhere in the university. An outsider can't hide her in there if they don't know about the place well," Jackson explained, his voice resonating with a mix of deduction and certainty.

Namjoon's eyes widened slightly, realizing the validity of Jackson's observation. "You're right about that," he admitted, a trace of pride evident in his voice as he acknowledged the younger member's keen observation.

Taehyung entered his room, his heart still racing from the events on the rooftop. He walked with a mix of exhilaration and nervousness, his mind consumed by thoughts of Y/N. With a lovesick smile playing on his lips, he couldn't help but replay their encounter in his mind over and over again. As he plopped down on his bed, a gentle sigh escaped his lips, his emotions swirling in a bittersweet blend of anticipation and longing.

Taehyung tossed and turned on his bed, his mind consumed with thoughts of Y/N. Her eyes, her smile, the way she had reached out to help him when he slipped - it all replayed in his mind like a film on repeat. He couldn't shake the feeling that there was something more between them, but he pushed it away, telling himself to stop overthinking.

With a frustrated groan, Taehyung grabbed a nearby pillow and smacked himself in the face with it, trying to distract his thoughts. "What's happening to you, Taehyung?" he muttered to himself, unable to ignore the flutter of excitement in his chest at the mere thought of her.

Jimin entered the room only to take in the sight of his friend frozen in place with a pillow in hand as he raised an eyebrow at Taehyung's odd behavior, "What are you doing?" he asked curiously, his eyes flickering between Taehyung and the pillow.

Taehyung's smile faltered slightly as he scrambled to come up with an explanation. "Um... I was checking the pattern? Yeah, checking the pattern of the pillowcase. It's so beautiful," he said, his smile turning awkward as he held up the pillow for Jimin to see.

"You are acting weird lately. What happened between you and Y/N?" Jimin asked, his curiosity evident in his tone as he studied Taehyung's flushed face.

"Huh? Nothing. What do you mean? Why are you asking?" Taehyung replied, his voice raising slightly as he tried to deflect Jimin's probing questions.

"Calm down, Tae. Y/N was chasing you a few hours ago. So I was just asking if everything was okay," Jimin reasoned, noticing Taehyung's red cheeks. "Why are you so red? Are you sick?" he asked, concern lacing his words.

"Huh? No. I- I just- need some fresh air. I will be right back," Taehyung stammered, his words rushed as he quickly made his way out of the room.

Watching Taehyung leave in a hurry, Jimin couldn't shake the feeling of something being amiss. "Hmm... weird," he mused to himself, pondering over his friend's odd behavior and the unspoken tension that seemed to linger in the room. There was definitely more to the story between Taehyung and Y/N, and Jimin couldn't help but feel curious about what was really going on.
