(23) It would End Badly

Bella's POV:

I woke up under two comforters drenched in sweat. I didn't understand who put two comforters over me, probably a new way to murder someone.

I got up and went to the washroom to take a shower. When I was done showering I realized I didn't have clean clothes to wear, so I put on the bathrobe and waited for Nate.

I heard the knock and nervously got up from the bed.

"Come in," I said.

Suddenly the door opened and Tristan entered.

He looked at me from head to toe in surprise. The bathrobe was short and reached to my knees. Nate was like a brother to me so I thought it wouldn't bother him. But watching Tristan in the room, staring at me made me furious. I picked the pillows and started to throw them at him.

"What are you doing here? Where is Nate?" I asked him.

He stood there clenching his hands, letting the pillows drop near his feet. He walked over me and grabbed my arm, roughly.

I was scared so I began to yell for help.

"Nate! Help!" I screamed, struggling to get out of his grip.

He places his hand over my mouth and pressed me on the nearest wall.

"Keep your mouth closed and listen to me," he said with the glare.

I struggled once again and he caught both wrists then placed them above my head, preventing me from moving.

"Nate came home drunk last night. He is sleeping right now," Tristan hissed.

I relaxed.

"I'm going to remove my hand from your mouth and I expect you to act like a lady instead of a wild fox," he said.

I glared at him as he removed his hand.

I wiped my mouth clean, sending draggers his way.

"Why did you come here?" I spat in anger.

"To give you breakfast," he said.

I frowned when I didn't see any tray of food in his hand.

"It's outside," he said.

Then he did the weirdest thing in the world, he picked a comforter from the bed and wrapped it around me.

"Leo, come inside," he yelled.

The door opened and another beefy guy sauntered in with the tray of food. I took a quick glance at the food and realized that it was from some cafe.

The guy left the room, closing the door on his way out. I threw the comforter on the bed and scowled at him.

"I don't want this breakfast. I don't want anything from you!" I said pointing my finger at him.

He walked closer to me, making me nervous. His eyes bored into mine, fuming.

"Why?" He asked bitterly.

"You have the audacity to ask me why I don't want anything from you after everything that you have done to me," I said with the scowl.

He placed his both arms on the wall, trapping me between the wall and his taut body.

"What have I done to see this much anger in your eyes?" he asked. His minty breath fanned over my lips, reminding me about Gabriel.

"You snatched him from me," I said in rage. "He gave me hope and desire to live and you snatched that from me with him."

He stared at me intensely like he was trying to figure out what I meant. I knew he would never be able to understand my pain and what I went through seventeen years of my life.

"He and I have history," he told me.

"He and I have a present that you're stealing from us," I said.

"That's what I do. I steal, I gamble, I destroy, I abduct, and I slaughter, amore," he whispered.  Then he took the step back, allowing me to breathe without his cologne distracting me.

I didn't know why it felt like he was making himself believe instead of me.

"And that's why you don't know how it feels to be human," I said.

He laughed at my words.

"If being human makes me weak like you then I am better the way I am," he said with the smirk.

"You think I am weak? I'll show you what weak is," I said ready to punch him when he caught my fist in his hand.

I tried to made him let go of my fist but he twisted my hand and held it behind my back.

"Let go of me," I hissed.

"I don't plan to, not anytime soon," he whispered in my ear. "Now, do you understand how weak you are. A man like me can knock you out easily, so don't attack again. It would end badly."

Then he let go of my hand harshly and I rubbed it to soothe the ache.

"Why are you in the bathrobe?" He inquired.

I glared at him, yearning to break his face.

"I don't have a fûçking wardrobe full of clothes here," I snapped.

"I think you're intelligent enough to not to parade around in these clothes in this house if you don't want to experience that night again," he said propelling me to think of the night I was about to get molested by one of his bastards.

"I know you're nurturing horny dogs here so I don't plan to step out of this room ever," I snapped.

He gave me an amused look.

"Enjoy your stay here as long as you are breathing," he said with the smirk.

"Enjoy my ass!" I exclaimed.

He shook his head with an amused look on his face then left the room. I took a deep breath and sat down. Despite not wanting to eat anything, I attempted to eat and managed to swallow down an avocado toast with some coffee.

A few minutes later, I heard the knock at the door and peeked my head out.

"What?" I asked the man who brought breakfast earlier.

"This is for you," he said handing me some clothes and sprinting away.

I closed the door and looked at two black trousers and two shirts. They looked large enough to adjust two of me inside it.

I threw on the shirt and pulled the trousers up then secured it around my waist.

The shirt was swallowing me but I looked decently covered.

I just sat alone in the room feeling miserable, thinking about Gabriel.

Around twelve at noon, I heard the knock and sat up in a panic.

I opened the door and peeked outside to see Nate.

"Hey?" He said rubbing the back of his head.

"Hi," I mumbled letting him in the room.

"How are you feeling?" He asked.

"Better than yesterday," I replied.

"Look I am sorry for leaving you alone last night. I couldn't see you suffer and feel helpless," he said looking guilty.

"But I thought you were with me all night. Didn't you give me the cold compress?" I asked him.

He frowned at my question.

"I did give you the cold compress in the evening but I wasn't with you the whole night," he said.

I was confused because I felt someone giving me cold compress, caressing my cheek, and checking on me every few seconds. I couldn't open my eyes and see the face but maybe that's because I was hallucinating.

"Anyways, I am better now. I heard you got drunk last night," I said.

"Yeah. I just wanted to stop feeling like shit for not being able to help you," he said.

I walked to him and placed my hand on his arm.

"You've done a lot for me despite the fact that you are from the team enemy," I said jokingly.

He gave me a sad smile.

"Tristan isn't just my boss, he is my friend. He is like a big brother to me that I never had. I was a depressed guy when I met him. He healed me and gave me a purpose to live," he said.

I frowned at his answer.

"What's the purpose that he gave you to live?"

Nate turned to me.

"Revenge," he said.

I closed my eyes cursing Tristan to hell. He gave Nate purpose to continue his life, exactly like he was living his life burning with revenge for his father's death.

"I don't think you should be thankful for this. He has given you a toxic trait that he was carrying for years," I said.

"Maybe? But I don't care. At least, he made me stop feeling powerless. Now, I have the strength to protect my loved ones and take the life of anyone who hurt them," he said with the maniac look in his eyes.

I didn't know what to say to him. I understood that he was too far gone and Tristan was pretty much dragging him in a pit.

He looked at my clothes from head to toe then frowned.

"Why are you wearing Tristan's clothes?" He asked.

I opened my mouth and closed it in surprise. That jerk of a man sends me his clothes.

"I didn't know it was his. I thought it was yours," I said with resentment.

"It's weird but looks better on you then his fat body," Nate said with a winking.

"I hate you," I said jokingly.

"The feeling is mutual. I hate myself too," he said.

I rolled my eyes at his dramatic expression.

Suddenly I remembered about Emma and his date.

"So...how's it going between you and Emma?" I asked him.

His face flushed and he looked around nervously like he was shy.

"We have been...uh...talking a lot lately. We will be going on our first date tomorrow," he said with the silly smile on his face.

I felt a pang of hurt in my chest but didn't let my emotions show on my face. I wanted to go on a date with Gabriel and experience everything that a girl feels when she is in love.

"I'm so happy for you. If things go great then don't forget to tell her about your sister who knocked some senses into your brain," I said with a grin.

Nate placed his arm around my torso and pulled me closer. He kissed my head and said, "I have already told her about you. She thinks you're smarter than me."

"She's intelligent. I like that," I said with the smirk.

He laughed and ruffled my hair.
