Merlin and Millicent are two siblings who arrive in the kingdom of Camelot after their mother has arranged for them to stay with the court physician Gaius. The first thing they discover on arriving in the city is just how unwelcome magic is in the kingdom, and to make matters worse, the King, Uther Pendragon, had outlawed all forms of magic and its use twenty years earlier in an event known as the Great Purge. This comes at a bad time for the two young siblings, who are in fact sorcerers, more powerful than they know.
Their magic, their nature, what makes them who they are, must be kept hidden now more than ever. While Merlin and Millicent arrive in Camelot with one secret in common, Millicent carries a second, unknown even to her brother.

In this situation, they have only one ally, Gaius. While their secret is safe with him, the court physician fears that their magic will not remain a secret for long because of Merlin's curiosity about it, his desire to know more and to use his magic wisely. While Merlin must restrain himself from using magic because he loves it, this is not the case for Millicent, who strangely seems to want to avoid it at all costs, even when her own safety is at stake, and wants to keep anything to do with magic away from her.
But despite her desire to lead a normal life, to keep herself and her brother out of harm's way, and to stay away from magic in any way, Millicent always seems to be caught up in her true self. For now her life is in Camelot, and though she is banished from it, magic is still very much present in the kingdom, and enemies want to reach out and harm her with the darkest sorceries. And the only way to fight magic... is with magic.

Merlin and Millicent must stay united and work together to protect the kingdom to which their destinies seem tied, but this can sometimes seem complicated when secrets keep coming between them, slowly spreading dissension.
